A friend of mine sent me a picture of this and I need a starting point to research it.
I guess it's a derringer of sorts, kind of small. Probably a 32 rimfire.
Thanks

Very similar to a Colt #3, but it isn't.

Google Colt derringer.

Are there any markings at all on it?

That would sure be a good thing to know in order to make a positive ID.

Flayderman shows perhaps a dozen of the same general type, made either after the Lee patent expired or just ignoring it.
But I see no exact match.

That gun very much looks like the "Eclipse", a gun which has a mild collector interest because it was the first gun made by Johnson & Bye, the predecessor to Iver Johnson. Some were marked ECLIPSE on the left side of the barrel; others were unmarked.

I have not seen this in hand yet but I do have the 2015 Standard Catalog of Firearms and a good starting point now. Hope he can buy it from the owner. If so, I'll followup.
Thanks.
