Broke a Firing Pin on my FoxB SxS tonight. Fort Smith, AR is the nearest city that has any gunsmiths. And those guys are usually booked way back.

The guns schematic shows lots of small parts. Don't know if it would be a good idea for me to jump in there and try to repair it or not.

What are your opinions on replacing those firing pins?

Firing Pin on my FoxB SxS/Savage 311

If it has double triggers, some times I am able once the stock is off to reach in over the top of the cocked hammer and remove the firing pin retaining screw, remove the broken firing pin and replace it. Then again sometimes this is a hair pulling language lesson.

If it is a single trigger model, there is enough disassembly that that fighting a hammer back in is pretty simple!

If in doubt let someone else have the job.

Thanks for the response Big AL:

Yep it's a double trigger set-up. I'm gettin ready to take it to the shop and let an experienced hand work on it.

Surely they can find a firing pin for it. It's not a rare gun by any means.

Most old time gunsmiths have Model B parts. Could be because they had to work on an awful lot of those @#$%^& guns.

Jim, fortunately this B model is in excellent condition. I'd recentlly bought some fancy brass snap caps??, the kind with wool chamber inserts, they look nice, but the center is solid steel and doesn't move when the firing pin hits it. I'll not be putting those back in my gun.
