I was able to purchase some Winchester Silver Tip bullets from Midway a few months ago when it was the only 9 mm bullets in stock ($30.00 for 100 bullets). Its a hollow point bullet and weighs 147 grains.

The problem is that the only Load Data I've found for it calls for Winchester WSF powder. And I have been unable to locate this powder locally and online.

I have HP-28 (Win 231), Accurate No. 2 and No. 5.

Does anyone have load data for this Winchester Silver tip 147 grain 9mm bullet using the above listed powders?

Thanks

PS: Ive checked Lymans, Lee, Hornadys, and Speers load books and Hogdons online data as well...

Thanks
Steve

I find answers from Hodgdon are easier to get if you call them. Sometimes if they don't list a bullet powder combo it's because they found it to be a bad combo, other times they just didn't test it. I've loaded 147gr XTP with W231. I believe Lee 2nd Edition is where I pulled the data from, but its been awhile. It worked fine and was accurate enough.

Accurate's website lists data for 147gr BJHP with AA#2 and AA#5. I would start with the starting charge weights and work up until I found an accurate load and probably stop .2gr before the MAX charge. If you don't find an accurate load by that point you should probably find a more suitable powder. Silvertips are a pretty old design so chances are the newer manuals don't bother publishing bullet specific data for them.

I do not see why you can not use the data for Accurate #2 and #5 for the 147 gr Speer bullet bullet?? My older download (V3.2.2) has the XTP data.

No.2 147 HDY XTP 3.6 781 4.0 888 29,200 1.095

No.5 147 HDY XTP 4.8 872 5.3 991 30,900 1.095

Download the manual.

Midway's LoadMap series for 9MM Luger published in 1998 listed data for the Winchester 9MM 147 grain Silvertip-HP. They tested 10 powders using Remington cases, Win SP primers using a Universal Receiver 4" barrel. I'll list some of the data not starting with the very lowest start charges and not going all the way into the caution area.
AA#2---3.0 grains--23700 psi--739 fps
3.2--------25900------782
3.4--------28200------825
3.6--------30400------868 fps
AA#5 start--4.2---21900 psi-----753 fps
4.4---23700--------790
4.6---26000-------828
4.8----28200------865
5.0----30500------903
5.1----31600 psi---921 fps
Win 231 start 2.5---19200 psi-----626 fps
2.8--23100---------699
3.0--25800---------748
3.2--28400---------797
3.4--31000 psi------845 fps
Midway's LoadMap goes up in charges into a caution area and I didn't list any loads that were in the red caution area. They did test the 147 Silvertips at an overall length at maximum at 1.169" and seating shorter will increase pressure. Use at your own risk and use this info to compare to other 147 grain 9MM data and start low and work up. Hope this helps.
