Never Give Up!

Subtitled: Projectile Stop.

Strategy & Tactic for safe handling of a firearm in a dwelling…

I best catch you folks up.

One of my lady friends I assisted with just had to have this section of Oak tree that had been hit by lightening, and was being cut up. She made it clear a certain part of this tree was to be “used” and to make the cuts “straight” and “do chainsaws have finer cutting blades?”

It measures fixed Modified Choke barrel on an 1100 or 28” in American Standard terms in diameter and height…”undressed”.

Why 28”, because that it the barrel on her gun at the time and not in the mood to get the Skeet barrel out of her gun case is why.

I was bribed to haul this Oak “section” where I was also bribed into drilling dead center, into top and bottom a hole for “this eyebolt thingy I bought at a garage sale and wondered what I would ever do with it, but it was only a nickel”.

Trust me, this thing is dead center.

I learn she has removed the bark, smoothed and sanded. I would have paid good money to have been there the night she hoisted this thing up in her garage in her bathrobe and the bathrobe got in the way and…

“I had my gloves and boots with no socks still on…”

Did you know Cherry Wood Stain gets soaked up quite a bit on an Oak Section? I did, as I have refinished solid oak furniture. This is what she had from doing a similar project and the Satin Polyurethane finish to go over it.

Pressure is bad enough shooting a 28 gauge shell, drilling holes into this Oak section now stained, finish out and all to accommodate Fiocchi 28 gauge bases cut off the hull, cleaned, polished with Happich Semichrome Polish to be inserted to fit is another thing.

Top and Bottom of course.

That was me wrapping this thing in beach towels, two towels I might add, and ever so carefully getting this heavy thing into the kitchen from garage. She did not have to say “don’t scratch it” because 1) I understand refinishing “furniture” and 2) she had that look that said it better than words.

Once inside I get to roll, and she lays down beach towels. The dog looks inside from outside and does that “Oh boy “ look , and starts rolling on the ground, yes his tongue was out and he had that look of laughing himself silly. He did this a few times, then I am pretty sure he was telling the neighbor’s dog thru the Privacy fence what all was going on.

Of course there was a “perfect spot” for this thing that matches bedroom furniture, and it was not one inch “that way” or “this way” it was “right there where I said the first time”.

Oh that was just getting it onto the steel coaster with wheels. Seems she found a heavy steel one with nice wheels like used for heavy plants, except this one was used for some kind of machine.

Trust me, this thing is clean, and has been repainted to match a border of which I cannot pronounce the name of color, pattern or anything. All I know it is some kind of special green.

I’ll admit this is a really nice piece of functional furniture for making sure a “projectile” has a safe backstop.

So, she is carry concealed and removes holster, to remove gun. She just stands there with muzzle safe…

“We have to go to the store right now” and puts holster and with gun still in- back on.

That was me….

...with a lady that had used my hands clasped together and one hand on my shoulder getting the ice chest with wheels and a handle down from top shelf in shorts.

It had to be the white one, not the red one she handed down, or the blue one moved over, the white one without the scratches unlike the first white one…

We have no idea whom the elderly lady was that started to come down the aisle, saw us, and then muttered “not in a store” and left.

I did hear “You let me fall I’ll kick your butt”.
Pretty sure the noise one aisle over was aforementioned lady running her buggy into something…

Prerogative.

Ladies have this, men don’t. I learned ladies can have “stored prerogative” which translated for guys means, they knew they were going to change their mind beforehand, just not going to share this beforehand.

We also had to make a run for spray paint and clear tubing, why? I’m getting there …

“Grunt, Tug”- as I am in the walk in closet with an Ice chest that -“this thing looks like it fell off a truck onto the highway”.

“That is exactly how I got it; I waited for a bit, nobody came to get it so I did. Oh you are going to have to unload it, it is pretty heavy”.

Well when I opened it, all I saw where books. No she had underneath bricks, legs of old blue jeans filled with sand, and nuts and bolts and the bottom has these steel plates.

Bullet Stop for two days was that box out in the garage with other heavy objects – why?

Because the paint had to dry of course- everybody knows it takes time for paint to dry, and one has to allow for two coats.

And one is not supposed to shoot the furniture, remember we now have a "new piece of bedroom funiture and one is not to point the muzzle at anything they do not want to destroy".

Makes perfect sense to me...

The wall where this ice chest sat, and new one does got repainted, and the carpet cleaned of course.

The steel plate was painted, and new clear tubing to not scratch the wall or hurt the carpet installed.

The “new” steel plate that will go underneath is a new addition for more safety and assurance, painted as well. This plate sets onto a carpet remnant, and over the plate this heavy rubber mat that covers all over plate and carpet remnant.

A better “layering” of material was placed inside the new ice chest with wheels once in place, with the steel plate behind it.

This is the new and improved Bullet Stop…err… “Projectile Stop”

Yes this was all tested in a cardboard box before being put into an ice chest originally.
Shooting a “stump” is what gave her the idea for the oak section, and that idea led to …

“Okay, you can come into my bedroom now”

Sitting on this refinished section of oak, which is really nice is a brass depiction of the Frog choking the Pelican with the caption “Never Give Up”

Now you folks have two ideas on Bullet Stops and one reminder on Mindset.

Never Give Up has special meanings to this lady.

Regards,

Steve
