It is nice to be able to swing the spring to the side but the problum with the spring being to long is the spring goes past the roller and touches the hammer causing the hammer to bind and have rough spot.

Any of you smart fellers want to post up a how-to on detail stripping and reassembling one of these? Preferably in video? I'd love to learn how and am a visual learner.

There's really nothing to it. Just keep track of what screw goes where - there are several different sizes and shapes, such as the screw holding the trigger guard at the front is different from the ones holding it and the rear, and so on.

There are only a few parts involved:

Trigger and bolt spring (one spring)
Trigger
Bolt
Hammer spring
Hammer
Hand and hand spring

Just watch as to how it comes apart, and you always have the 'net as backup.

Here is an exploded view of my 1851 Pietta .44 "Yank" notice the broken trigger/bolt spring...that is why I took it apart. Very easy to work on if the screws arn't too tight.

I have a Pietta 1860 Army in .44 that I bought about 15 years ago. It is all steel, including the backstrap and trigger guard and it's dead-on accurate. I was very surprised that a roundball would be so accurate. Although many folks would say that Ubertis are "prettier", I don't believe that any function better or are of better quality. It's pretty plain/simple, but with some nice scroll work and a walnut handle. Unfortunately, I just don't have time for it -- never have. I shot 18 rounds through it a couple of years ago -- that's it. Mint condition -- I'm going to sell it. I have a holster, an antique-style powder flask with built-in measure, nipple wrence, percussion caps full box of Hornady roundballs that shave perfectly when loading. If anyone is interested in buying it, let me know and I'll post pictures.

I wouldn't mind adopting a new puppy if the price was right, although I'm really wanting a pocket model. Let me know what you'd want for it, and yes, I'd like to see pics.

Actually, mine does have a brass trigger guard. There are 82 percussion caps and the box of round balls has not been opened = 100. Make me an offer for the package -- pictures attached below.

Ahhh....I keep thinking about it, but I already have two Pietta 1860's, and need another like I'd need a screen door on a submarine. I think I'll keep saving my money for a 1849 pocket revolver. thanks anyway.
