Has anyone else seen this? Looks very nice.....:what:

Rumor has it Taurus will be coming out with a gun chambered in this round soon.

I think it's neat. Only thing I know made for it now is a custom rig that was well over $2k.

It's not a conversion, pretty sure the whole weapon is made from the ground up.

I don't see one in my future. I have enough odd-ball cartridges that I'm busy finding (hoarding:evil:)

It sounds like a very reasonable defense round. They didn`t try to magnumize it at all, which in this case I think is a good thing. It would be great in a single stack XD or Glock and even better if reasonable priced factory ammo were available. Thing I don`t understand is how LAR was able to make an extremely high quality beefed up 1911 in .50AE (Grizzly MkV) 10 years ago for around $1000 but Guncrafter needs to get $2700 for their ".50 Short and Weak" version.... :scrutiny: Marcus

From whence comes that rumor? That makes all the difference in the world, if a major company were to pick it up. That won't necessarily make it a success, but it does make it at least semi-feasible that it will gain a small foothold.

This as at least semi-believable, in that Taurus is a darn sight more adventurous than most U.S. companies. I bet S&W never even dreamed of making a wheelgun in .218 Bee. Not that it was a good idea for Taurus to do so, but at least they showed guts.

Looks BAAAD, but it is limited to a rich man's toy unless a mass producer picks it up with somebody lined up to make popularly priced ammuntion for it.

Would you buy a $500 Taurus for a dollar a pop calibre?

I won't be too excited until someone invents a cartridge thats at least .60cal, 700ft lbs energy and 9mm recoil. Ya, ya, I can wish.

I read that at another discussion board. It's hard to say whether that will happen or not but if it does make some head-way, I will scoop one up.

Here is a link with some accuracy tests and some velocity for the 275 grn and 300 grn ammo:

I would for this.
I saw the add some months ago and thought cool, if they just had it available in a reasonably priced gun, not just a semi-custom $2000 gun.

If you already own one of their .45ACP pistols, you can get a conversion kit (bbl, spring, & magazine) to bump it up to .50GI for $365 + labor.

They say it works only for their .45ACP 1911s, but I have my doubts. Even if it worked for plain-jane 1911s, I bet they wouldn't sell the kit. Too bad, really, as that is an interestig ida that I am not willing to shell out $2K+ on.

Yes, but show up at the range with a Desert Eagle and everyone will go "lol matrix" and the bearded old-timer 1911 guys will frown at you and shake their heads...

I dunno. I'm more interested in making a .45-ish round go faster than making a marginally bigger one that's just as slow.

Umm..

I find this statement kind of....erm... weird. I show up with a Satin-Chrome .50AE and about 98% of the time it gets tons of attention, sometimes, to the point of more talking than shooting. Once the bearded old guy sees the accuracy capabilities of this pistol, it gets even worse, that bearded guy usually ends up wanting to pop off a few rounds.

I would LOVE to have a Model 1 from Guncrafter Ind.
I've spoken with Alex Zimmerman and he's been courteous and forthcoming.
One of my favorite gunsmiths, Ned Christiansen, speaks highly not only of Alex and Vic but also of their creation.

Are the pistols from GI expensive?
Absolutely.
So are Nighthawk 1911s.

My big stumbling block is really the cost of ammo.

To be practical, I'd need to buy the 45ACP conversion kit as well, so I could shoot weekly at the range without driving my household to financial ruin. I'm not yet ready to make this level of commitment to a handgun, but I'd really like to.

I like the engineering changes they've made. I LOVE the reworked magazines. I just can't foot the bill at the moment.

Just my 2 cents,
B.

I heard about the GI Model #1 about a year ago - they've had it on impactguns.com just about forever, although it's never been in stock. And at $3,000 - well, I can't really say that I'm interested... yet. If the price goes down, that might be something else altogether.

I'd really like to see Taurus make a gun chambered for this round. Say whatever you want about Taurus, but they continue to push the envelope, and at a fair price at that. I'd definitely buy a $500 gun chambered for a $1 cartridge... and I'm not the only one.

Hence, the Taurus Tracker .500 :D

Marginally? Figure the surface area.

I'm with Cousin Mike. I have heard of the gun and ammo, but could not get too interested at the price. If Taurus came out with one in the 500 dollar range I would probably have to get one. A real pumkin thrower.

I'm not sure why, but the Oklahoma Self Defense act specifically prohibits the concealed carry of any handgun that uses ammunition with a caliber greater than .45.

See TITLE 21 § 1290.6. Prohibited ammunition; TITLE 21 § 1290.14. Safety and training course, Section E; and TITLE 21 § 1290.18. Application form contents, #20 in the text of the Oklahoma Self Defense Act.
