Take Action on Important Bills being Heard in Committee This Week!

HB 2667
HB 2667 is the so-called "campus carry," bill. It prohibits the governing board of any university, college or community college from enacting or enforcing any policy or rule that prohibits the possession of a concealed weapon by a person who possesses a valid concealed weapons permit, or that prohibits the transportation or storage of a firearm.
As in past years, we expect strong opposition from college and university administrations and even some student groups. Your help in moving the bill forward is critical!
HB 2544
One way the federal government justifies many of the activities it seeks to control or tax is the so-called "commerce clause" of the Constitution which grants authority for Washington to regulate inter-state commerce. HB 2544 seeks to limit that authority with respect to firearms by declaring that firearms and ammunition that are "modified" in Arizona and remain within the state do not constitute "inter-state commerce." This may seem obvious, but the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in the past that even activities within a state somehow affect commerce between the states.
HB 2667 and 2544 will be heard on Wednesday morning, February 15 by the House Judiciary Committee. The committee members need to hear from you in order to move these bills forward!

SB 1300
Senate Bill 1300 is the companion bill to HB 2667. Like the house bill, SB 1300 would prohibit the governing board of any university, college or community college from enacting or enforcing any policy or rule that prohibits the possession of a concealed weapon by a person who possesses a valid concealed weapons permit, or that prohibits the transportation or storage of a firearm.
SB 1300 will be heard on Wednesday afternoon, February 15 by the Senate Military Affairs and Public Safety (MAPS) Committee. The committee members need to hear from you in order to move this bill forward!
