New ATF 4473 Form

When I first started making this my hobby, nearly every pawn shop/gun shop I went to here in NC said that the ATF doesn't like to see abbreviations and to spell everything out.
They might not like it, but there is not a damn thing they can do about it. There is no law that states it must be spelled out. The ATF cannot force you to make your customers spell things out.

Does anyone know what the "Unique Personal Identification Number" (UPIN) which is Question No. 9?

I did a google search on this and apparently it is a number issued by FBI for folks who are consistantly delayed in getting NICs approval. It appears to be not something brand new. I just never noticed it before on the 4473 form. Could be because I'm not a FFL dealer that I never read every single line on the form.??

The UPIN is a file number the FBI can keep on you to expedite your BG checks. I don't know of many people that have this.

I have a upin # sometimes my BC went right thru sometimes it delayed
got tired of the delays so I filed for one and got it over 5 months ago
but I also have a C&R license and MD collector status never could understand the delays
and I bought this baby today and filled out the new 4473 form for it
seems the new form was faster

So it says putting your Social security number is optional, but helps with misidentification. Do you guys usually put yours or choose not to?

I do. There's a guy with same F/M/L born on the same day in the same city as myself. He's wanted in NC and PA for murder. I always get delayed, they send me straight over to someone else, then I pass. The first search is a name check. After that they run the SSN.

Funny a guy that has an FFL business, had a few security jobs that needed finger printing for applying, two carry permits, ran prints for the FFL application, fingerprints ran when I started cop school, then again when I transferred schools, still gets delayed on NICS checks.
