It is my understanding that in Colorado (and soon in Washington state) a purchasor buying legal marijuana must show ID. While state legal, the ATF and DEA takes a different view. ATF Form 4473 states a Marijuana (even medical) user cannot purchase a firearm and it is illegal for an individual to sell a firearm to a known or suspected marijuana user.

And lying on ATF Form 4473 (a marijuana user stating they are not, is a lie) is a federal crime punishable by up to five years in prison.

Probably true. I think it's a stupid rule. The "war on drugs" has been an utter failure and an expensive waste of time. While I don't do illegal drugs I'm a lot less worried about someone smoking a joint than I am about some drunk driver hitting me on the road.

Just another case of the govt sticking their noses where they don't belong.

"Unlawful Use of, or addicted to marijuana, or ANY depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug or any other controlled substance." covers a lot of ground and is very subjective, especially when it comes to addiction and alcohol or legally prescribed drugs (eg sleep meds, antidepressants,etc.). Not to mention the "unlawful" aspect where MMJ and/or RMJ has been legalized by the state and the feds have been instructed to back-off.

Dismantling the idiotic "War on Drugs" has to start somewhere and it certainly wasn't going to start with the Federales. We've all been heavily programmed for the last ~30 years that drugs and the people that use them must be eradicated at all costs so it is going to take some time for all of this to sort itself out.

My instincts tell me that in a few years, the feds will take a list of registered marijuana patients and cross-reference it against a list of CCW or permit holders and send the permit holders who are listed in the marijuana database letters stating their privaleges to own and carry are revoked. This plays into the hands of the government, who wish to take the guns away from as many Americans they can. I see no good coming from these new laws for gun owners especially since the feds don't recognize them.

in 50 years we'll look back on marijuana prohibition the same way we look back on alcohol prohibition today: "who really thought that was a good idea?"
