Cleaning kit, patches, eye protection, practice ammo and HD ammo. I will get ear protection this weekend. Yes I am a newbie, so I have not the slightest clue on ammo brands and whats good and whats not. I will search.. but if you want to enlighten me.. comments are welcome! Thanks all..

Sweetness! With the rail too.

Eventually you'll want a range bag to hold all the misc gear and ammo, etc. Look to Midway for something like this perhaps?

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=259680

On the ear protection, when shooting indoors, double up. Foam plugs (or other types) and muffs. Hearing damage is permanent, so avoid when you can. (my right ear has lost about 50% hearing, my left a little less.) Tinnitus, it sux.

A lot of shooters buy the Winchester White Box (WWB) from WalMart (or elsewhere) for cheap 115 gr. fodder. It's not the greatest but it does go bang. For self defense, some type of JHP (jacketed hollow point) moving a bit faster is good. Several good brands out there. You'll have to see what your 92 likes best, tho it'll feed just about everything.

Now... RANGE REPORT

Since you are a newbie, really do consider either a class or go shooting the first time with someone you know who can assist and/or guide you where needed.

Nice little Italian 9mm. (not so little really, but really nice) Congratulations. Welcome to our world. Once you get good with the 92, what you got planned next? ;) MUAHAHAHA

looks like a 92A1 to me.

and it's just a railed version of the 92FS (A1 = rail)..not a military version of anything.

I believe that's a M9A1 which is the military version of the 92FS

Well, actually, the M9 is the military version of the 92FS. The M9A1 is used by the marines. But, it does have a rail. (2FS does not. But, the the m9A1 does use a 92Fs slide.

That is an M9A1 in the photo. 92A1 has a curved trigger guard.

Congrats to the original poster!

Berettas rock!

Now go buy some more of them! :D

We need more like you in places like Westchester. Welcome to the club.
Thanks!
Is that a Beretta ash tray?

LMAO! Funniest thing.. The guy at the Sports shop I bought it from told me oddly enough what the round thing was before I even realized it was there. I guess he had been asked that so often he opted to give it to me b4 I asked.. He said "its there to prevent case from collapsing" under pressure.

I have a Beretta 92FS, you will not be disappointed.

great to hear! :D

Great Info! I was wondering what to get but now that you've said this, I will get good ones and not skimp to save a few bucks.

I will be going for the first time back to my local range where I have a 1hr session with an instructor to show me the ropes and then in process attain my NRA certificate.

Yep definitely an M9A1 developed to met the requirements of the Marine Corp per the Beretta site.

Right you two are. It is a M9A1 version on 92FS I guess. I'm loving the rail which allows me to add on at a later point. I see some more in the future lol

Congratulations on a great purchase! I'm sure you love it and the future ones to come!! My 92FS Inox is one of my favorite guns. 7 more and you'll have the "Shipwreck wheel". :)

..honestly.. I was apprehensive to ask "Shipwreck" if those were all his. But DAMN.. :what: I thought it was an ad from Beretta themselves.. thats amazing to have! More power to you Shipwreck.. literally :D

The infamous Beretta "Blue Cup." I think I may start collecting them. The only problem is, you need to buy a new Beretta to get them...

It's to catch brass silly people! Can also be used as a proof target or a handy place to set the take down lever during disassembly.

Very nice pistol and kudos on arranging for professional help. Enjoy.

I always thought the little cup was for drinking grappa after you're done shooting. Probably tarnish it a bit and eat the finish off tho'... Didn't have them when I got my 92 oh so long ago.

...and it takes a real man to appreciate that Italian grappa :uhoh:

Wise man. Have F U N (but be S A F E... old joke punchline... "Is GUN. Is NOT safe.")

Yes, those are all mine. The wheel will grow again one day :D

Nice!! Enjoy!

I'm already thinking of picking up an INOX someday to go with my 92FS!

Thanks everyone.. I'm hoping for some range time in the next week or two. I'm going to research and read up while I wait :)

Buy a Snap cap and practice dry firing daily as well perhaps? WAIT! Ammo out of same room. Ammo locked away. No ammo near or in sight. (Don't ask me why or how I know this, but it wasn't pretty, no matter how great a lesson I learned as a result... m'kay? :banghead:)

OK, this sounds stupid, maybe potentially dangerous in the minds of others if you have others around watching or in the same room, but... handle the 92, a lot. Left hand, right hand, both hands, weaver stance, isosceles, dry fire at TV (snap cap, no ammo anywhere nearby, see above). In both DA and single action (which means you'll have to cock the hammer back) learn where the trigger breaks in both actions, how much pressure is required, etc. Don't do anything stupid or dangerous (I won't say I never "twirled" a handgun but the one time my Dad caught me fooling around, er, practicing, like that... well, we had a long talk about... S A F E T Y)

Locking lugs have been an issue in the past. Probably blown out of proportion for most 92 owners unless you're a high count round kind of shooter (competition or active duty) but read up on early issues (there was at least one other, hence the S in 92FS) and check out your 92's innards a time or two as you take it apart, clean it and put it back together.

Did anyone mention the "D" spring? Something else to ponder down the road. Don't do anything "special" to modify your 92 until you've put at least 500 rounds downrange is good advice for most firearms.

ETA: watch your muzzle before and after dry firing with an eye towards safety always (Boy am I a Nag or what)
