new bushy question...

got it dialed in pretty good now thanx to some folks here,

i was puttin' em in the black at 100 yds, still needs minor messing with but i'm close enough for now.

however,,,

i'm suddenly finding that my magazine (10 round from factory) doesn't catch if theres more than 8 rounds in it and the bolt is closed. cost me some shootin' time figuring that one out.

i have some other magazines but thats the only one i had with me at the time, so i havent tried others yet.

anyone else come across this problem?

i was just there!!

i bought a spotting scope 20% off and a buncha cleaning stuff 30% off. no guns though.

no $ for guns right now.

i did see a s&w 332 for a little over $500 with the discount, $100 less than i paid for mine.

i'm not crazy about any of the small stores around here. newington gun exchange is pricier that hoffmans, i was just there too, comparing. the rest of them are through the roof...

i have a friend with FFL and he gets me stuff for fairly cheap, at least he doesn't gouge me anyway

If none of your AR magazines will catch, the problem may be in the gun's magazine catch. If it's only this magazine, it may be either a very stiff spring or the cutout for the magazine catch isn't in the exact position. If it is with this magazine only, swap the spring with another magazine that does function and see if the problem moves with the spring.

I had the same problem with my 10 round Bushmaster mag. USGI, Thermolds and Orlites work fine. The 10 round Bushy mag made an excellent target though.

The majority of the ten round Bushy mags I've had have been junk. I only use 20 round or 30 round USGI mags now.

I think the fix was: replace mag spring and verify mag catch is not rounded off

for what ever its worth, i load my 20 rnd mag with 16-18 and my 30 with 25-28
I dont use my 10 rnd mags but it would make sense to download them too

All the factory mags from Bushmaster i have had and seen can not be takin apart without destroying the magazing. Are they making them that can be takin apart for spring/follower swap now? I rip mine open with a pair of pliers to get the anti tilt followers out but never tried loading and shooting with them.

yes, it locks in with the bolt open but should also lock in when its closed.

i got some 40's but i don't like using (showing) them at the range,

i'll look into it further with all this in mind next chance i get,

my instruction manual claims theres a release to remove the bottom of the mag, but i sure don't see it actually ON the mag

that wouldn't make it the first instruction manual i've ever seen that was incorrect,,, btw

yea, ive heard you should underload them, maybe now i know why?

mine does the same thing when you load 10 rounds there is no more play for the mag to seat comfortably just down load 1 round its not your mag catch or the rifle its the cheap 10 rounder even if you lock the rifle open and drop the carrier it sometimes wont feed the first round cause it is too tight thats why soldiers and cops download the mag 1 or 2 rouns so the mag will seat with less resistance than when its full capacity.

EVERY AR magazine I have (including Bushmaster factory 30's) can (and have been) easily be taken apart with a small screwdriver and a bit of care and effort. IIRC, the Bushy mags are made by Adventureline, so they are USGI spec.

The 20 rnd Colt mags do have a "release button" but then you still have to remove the baseplate with care and a small screwdriver.

Sounds like strong mag-springs to me. I wouldn't think it was anything to worry about.

My mags won't lock when full either. I just lock open the bolt and insert them.

The "New Style" Bushy 10-rd. mags can't be disassembled.

The 40-rd. mags that you have are aftermarket junk and are not milspec. (Don't know why you'd worry about "showing" them, though, if they're legal)

My new bushy 10 rounder can't be opened up either. It seems to function well now, but I had the same problem you describe the first few times I used it. After I had put a hundred rounds through it, it was working fine. I have not used it since though because I promptly went to a gun show and got some Orlites and some USGI mags. Incidentally, and not to be off topic, but the top of my Orlites have cracked since I got them. I don't reccommend.
