I've got myself a Bul M-5 Ultra-X brought in by Charles Daly. It shoot absolutely great but it has one slight problem, sometimes a fired round fails to extract from the barrel. I can only explain so much so I added pictures, any help is appreciated. (Pardon some of the low quality pictures). Also if anyone could help me find magazines for this sucker I'd really appreciate it.

These pictures were taken exactly at what position the gun repeatedly jammed at.

That is a failure to extract, causing a "double feed" stoppage. The cartridge fires, the slide moves to the rear, but the fired case doesn't come out with it. Then the slide returns forward and tries to strip off the top round in the magazine, but because the fired case is still in the chamber and the fresh round has nowhere to go, the bullet nose butts up against the case. This is the worst kind of stoppage to have. To clear it, you have to lock the slide back, forcibly rip the magazine out (the top round is caught between the fired case, slide breechface and mag feed lips, so the mag won't fall out), then jack the slide rapidly back and forth, slamming it home on the forward stroke, in the hopes that the case will come out, usually falling out through the mag well. Thankfully you found it now, instead of in a gunfight. :uhoh: I have something similar going on with a new gun I just bought.

IME, failures to extract can be caused by a rough or very dirty chamber, an oversized round, anything that causes the case to stick in the chamber. Most often, though, it is a failure of the extractor itself.

What ammo?

Chucky-D is certainly out of business. Hope you got a good deal. Probably should have asked here before buying, not sure anyone here would recommend what looks like a commander sized Chucky-D over a RIA full size, or most any other for that matter. I don't hold a high opinion of anything they ever produced.

I'd take it to a local gunsmith since you're not going to get any help from Chuck.

Lonerider he did indeed go out of business some time ago.

Lone Haranguer I can't agree with you more, it's definitely a pain in the rear to clear and rack this thing when it gets caught up like that. But the chamber was clean as a whistle, the rounds dropped right into the barrel since I use the barrel as my check gauge and I was thinking it's the extractor but I wasn't sure.

HKGuns, the ammo I use are my own reloads and yes I got a great deal, OTD $530, plus I have a full size RIA. Charles Daly didn't produce this gun, they simply imported it, Bul of Transmark Israel are the creators of this pistol.

Railroader I appreciate your help.

I don't see anything on the outside of your slide, so I assume this has a conventional internal extractor. Unless the hook is broken clean off or something, it might just need "tuning." (fancy way of saying bending) Take the slide off and push a round between the breechface and extractor hook. It should stay put without falling out, but cannot be too tight.

this is an Israeli BUL M5, imported by Charles Daly.. Kimber also imported them..

it could be that the feed lips on the magazine are off and the round in the mag is feeding up too far and impeding the case from being extracted correctly..

Para mags will work if you get the mag release from Kimber.. Kimber sells mags as well..

If I were were looking for magazines, I'd check with Bul direct

Or Kahr/ Magnum Research as they are importing Bul 1911's, though in single stack variety. I believe they are handling warrantee work for some of the Charles Daly products.

While the OP's pistol is a Bul product, the single stack Charles Daly 1911's were made by Armscor, the same folks that make RIA 1911's.

Bul M5 guns use the same magazine as the Kimber Ultra Ten II
they are available from Kimber and cost about $50.00
ActiMag used to sell a copy for the full size Kimber made by Bul as well 14 rd, it is supposed to work in your gun as well. As mentioned your extractor is the first thing to check, might need to dissasemble it entirely & clean/lubricate properly. These are my favorite pocket gun ever with a 10+1 rd cap & in .45acp too!
