OK! I always wanted one. I finally bought one on E-Bay. I have an older .45 Colt-.410 barrel. It is octagonal. I don't know when they quit making these.

It strikes me that this barrel would be more accurate with the bullet loaded closer to the rifling. Seems like there is room for experimentation here.

One thing I am worried about is the fact that it looks like it would chamber a .454 Casull round. Probably, this is too much for the Contender action.

Has any one any insights into loading the .45 Colt for the 3" chambered Contender barrel?

You can load the 45 colt pretty hot in the contender, but the 454 will most likely stretch your frame, if your lucky. There are some guys playing with something called a 450 mongo in the 45/410 barrels, but my computer is on the fritz and I can't pull up the link. Sometimes it helps to seat the bullet out a ways. I have a 44 mag barrel that I reload with the bullet just off the rifling, shrunk my groups from 1.5inches to around 0.6 inches. My .223 and my 30-30AI barrels don't shoot as well with the bullet out that far. Half the fun is experimenting, but as always, watch your pressures.
