I have carried a folder for ages first a buck and now a kershaw drone. Recently I started think about getting a new knife but I kind of want something different.
I have looked at the TDI but that is less of a utility knife.
I am interested in the benchmade 53 but i have heard mixed reviews. I would not be interested flipping much just as a utility blade. I like that it is kind of different.
I am open to suggestions I am looking at anywhere from 50 to 100 plus some.
I like the idea of a utility bialsong but I am definitely open to a small fix bladed knife. I don't really need anything with a blade longer than 3 inches.

The best Bali under $100 is the Bradley Kimura. Comes in several handle variations as well as a couple different blade profile options. Produced by Kershaw. They flip great and are well built. Kind of on the heavy side as they're all steel but weight in a knife never bothered me. Another to look at would be the BM 32 Morpho. It's a little smaller and has a nice pocket clip. Good for edc. Can be had used a little over $100.

Becker BK14

If I were to go the bradley route where would you suggest buying it from, Amazon does not have it. also if anyone knows of a knife store in VT that carries a wide selection please let me know.

The Drone is already a great knife so its gonna be hard to find something I'd personally consider better.

Have you looked at any other Kershaws by chance? I carry a Chill on my days off and love the light weight and ease of those flippers!

Yo Mama that is a nice looking skeleton style knife, but buying the handle separately would be kind of annoying not bad. I also did not see a sheath on amazon.
Duble I do like the drone I was just wondering about something different.
But I am thinking of keeping the drone as my edc for a while yet because I will be doing clinic hours at a hospital as part of an LNA course and I will also have to wear scrubs which means a folder will be easier to keep on me if they let me have a knife while working there.

Scales are not necessary, but nice. You can easily wrap in paracord, which is what some of the users of the BK14 do. I'm positive it comes with a sheath, I bought off Amazon, and go the standard sheath.

I have mine set up this way:

AL,

All production fixed blade knives come with sheaths. Only custom knives might not.

The sheath as it comes is a neck sheath without a clip. Most folks use paracord lacing to form loops to slide onto a belt, but there are also many clip attachment systems available for it as well in the aftermarket.

Regarding the BK14-

It comes with the handle bare. In the box you will get the knife, enough black 550 cord to wrap the handle, and the injection molded (kydex style) sheath. The sheath has no belt attachment, and though I am not sure it looks to be compatible with the TDI belt clip.

BK14 ($30-ish), micarta scales ($15-ish), TDI clip ($9). If you want the extras, you are still within your price range.

My normal belt is too thick to work well with the TDI clip, so I routed 550 cord through the holes in the sheath to form belt loops. Free and it works great.

BK14 sheaths used to be glass filled nylon, not nice on your edge, not sure if that changed either way add new sheath to price. still worth it. some nice custom leather and kydex on ebay.

"used to be" is the operative word. I talked to KaBar at Blade and we discussed the sheath change right after Blade Show here this year.

If you want a small fixed blade, check out the Scrapyard Scrapivore. It's one of my favorites. I am also in love with the Tom Krein Dogfish and the Simonich Bitter Root and Crow Foot.

say thats true what stock are you getting when buying off the internet? is there a way to tell? did they change the design?
for piece of mind if theres no way to tell I would still replace the sheath, just me.

I second the Scrapivore, bought one for my dad last year.

The old ones with the odd missmach between the drop point knife and the "tanto" point sheath are to be avoided.

Inventories are kept to a minimum on shelves at retailers, wholesalers and the manufacturer moving product in as close to a continuous stream from the production floor to the end user, so at this point months after Blade the "old" stock should be gone from most retailers.

As long as you didn't rub the edge on the sheath there wasn't much opportunity for it to dull and none of mine have demonstrated a problem.

Not to diverge on my own thread but I just called the AGs office wondering about knife laws, they told me to call fish and game, who told me to call the law enforcement section for fish and game. I am now waiting. Just had to rant, you think they would know the laws. I cannot imagine here in VT we have that many knife laws. I could find them in the statutes just the firearms laws.

if you want a butterfly without breaking the bank you could look for an mtech twist. about 30 bucks and feels like it should be $60. Quality is not as good as bradley, may 80% but price is about a 1/3. (kind of like bradley is to benchmade) heck, I've even got one I'd part with as I never use it for anything but opening letters.
