I just bought a New england arms Pardner 20 gauge youth single shot last night from wally world, only $100 so I couldnt pass it up, expecialy since im getting a gun rack for valintines and need to fill it up :D:rolleyes:. Anyways im new to the shotgun world (but not rifles and pistols) and have some questions. I now want to start working on this thing, sort of like a project I guess since it was so cheap. I want to sand down the stock and restain it a different color, and I want a nice green stain. you guys recomend any stains?? Also what would be a durable clear coat? I also want a new front sight since the one they put on there I dont like. I would like a nice one, like a truglo. Do they make sights for these guns?? I havent found any yet. Any idea what thread size the front sight is? Is there a way to mount rear sights on these??

Yes I know lots of questions but I appreciate the help:(

Walmart sells a sight set call Hi-vis for a round $5 the has several different thread size post that you screw in where the old bead comes out then a neon green fiber optic bead go on use the 3-56 thread I have one on a pardner 28 gauge and like it . only finnishs I've used are tru-oil tung oil or boiled linseed oil thinned with mineral spirits I don't think one of those would be the best with green stain ,do post a pic when done I like green:D You have in my opinion the the handiest most durable shotgun ever made. A 28 ga pardner is my most used shotgun (90% of the time) with appropriate ammo and some pratice you can take game from dove and quail to deer

Awesome guys, exactly what im looking for. I actually looked at walmart last night, I remember seeing the sights there one time, but they werent there last night (when I bought the gun). I will try dicks sporting goods today. I will post a pic of the stock stained green when I do it, might be in a week or two though but I WILL do it. My neighbor (who is a POW) has a nice wood shop that I can use when I need it, so im also thinking about making a new foregrip since the one thats on there looks a little weird to me, like its too short. Plus it looks easy as hell to do. Im taking this gun to the range sunday to test here out, since my girlfriend is coming with I will bring my Taurus PT-99 and my Rem 700 .243.

But anyways I bought the youth model, I liked the shorter barrel, but noticed that the full size model has a 1 3/4" longer stock. I also noticed that these guns dont have much for recoil pads, so an aftermarket pad should give me another inch. Now should I look for a slip on pad (not my favorite because they dont look too good) or are there any pads that are actualy made for this. Im thinking about getting a recoil pad and just trimming it to make it fit. Oh and I also need a shell holder for the stock, that would look nice.

Brandon,

First, congratulations on your new purchase, it's a great gun to get started with.

I'm sure that Steve (aka sm), will be along shortly to tell you done good, as he is very fond of the particular NEF model. :D

Enjoy!
