'Afternoon, fellas,

My fiancee's birthday came and went - she got a Glock 19 w/Trijicon night sights from me and loves it! I'm thinking of getting her (us, maybe me!) a Streamlight TL-2, since she'd like a laser, and I think a light would be a good idea as well.

I'd also like a holster, both for her (righty) and me (lefty). Since I'll be carrying it first, probably, I'm wondering what a good holster might be for a G19. I'm about 5 foot 9, 190 pounds. What do you like?

Mind you, you don't have to be a lefty, since a lot of the holster makers allow me to specify the hand, and if not for me then for the missus...

Thanks!

Hello

If your wife is on the petite side, and likes to wear trendy clothes, you might have a problem finding a way for her to conceal the G19. My wife has a G19 as well, and won't consider any other handgun. But, No way can she carry it easily, without changing her wardrobe from form fitting to frumpy. In the winter it's possible because of outer wear. Anyway it's a moot point now since we started to have kids, she won't carry anymore:eek: . I keep telling her it's even more important but.....:banghead:
Good luck, let us know what works.

I really like the Galco Ultra Deep Cover for IWB. A coworker has an Aker DEA for IWB carry that is really slick, hides well, and sits high on the waist... am looking for one myself.

Fist holsters in ultrathin kydex, for me. Keep your compact carry compact & comfortable.

Bucks, that's amusing, and likely soon to be cathartic for me as well...

She's about 5'5, 140 or so - built eastern European tough!

Shaped oddly

Something to consider is that females are shaped considerably differently than males, much to my delight!!

A holster that you find comfortable, may not work at all for her.
I might suggest a cross-draw or high rider for her, but in all honesty it's a problem I've not solved yet.
There are companies that specialize in holsters for more shapely people.
When I revisit this issue, I think I'd like my wife to try one of those holster/vest/undergarment things.
We've never tried one, but shall see.
I've tried the wide elasticized belt, but the muzzle would pinch me when I sat down. Plus they're sweaty and uncomfortable.
You'll end up with a box of holsters that seemed to work when you tried them, but ended up not being what you had hoped.
Just like everyone else.

Congratulations on a packing woman, might want to keep that one ;)
Make sure she gets personal range time, and maybe prefessional instruction (and no, not from you!)

I have a comp-tac ctac slide holster for my glocks (fits 17, 19, 22, 23, 26, 27 since the end is open). It's comfortable, conceals well, and secure. Then if you acquire more 9mm or .40 glocks (they tend to multiply, especially in households with separate bank accounts ;) ) you can use the same holster. Get a good gunbelt too, it makes all the difference.
Might as well plug where I got both my CTAC holsters so you can see what they look like: http://www.gunnersalley.com/product/COMPTACCTAC They had good prices and very fast shipping in my experiences.

I believe Kramer and Milt Sparks make a holster with women in mind. You might want to make sure she is comfortable with the gun. Check www.corneredcat.com for more information.

As a sidenote I would suggest letting her get her own dedicated carry gun when you have the funds. If she likes the Glock 19 then go and get her own.

$140! That's nearly half as much as the Glock itself! My God!

Well, I was warned this was an expensive hobby...

well, you can buy a bunch of cheap holsters till you realize that they are all crap & that you should have bought only 1 quality holster. :neener: There are many quality holstermakers out there, some are cheaper than the one I linked to but when it comes to women & holsters it becomes a science. Here are a few more...

Ever heard of pager pal hosters?

Hey, I've never tried any of these, but have been researching them. I think I have a lot of options if I'm dressed casually, I can wear certain types of shirts untucked w/ my style of dress, look normal and likely conceal well. But I was wondering about the times when I have to have a tucked in shirt and not have to wear a jacket/vest, etc...

I noticed a poster mentioned the galco deep cover, which looked like some of the ones I've seen that allow you to tuck in the shirt...

Then I ran across a link on packing.org about concealed carry links http://www.packing.org/links/?ccw_topic=7 which took me to this page:
https://www.pagerpal.com/

You can use their fake pager/cell attachment, or your own cell phone, recommending a weak side carry, you can either push up the weapon from the bottom if your hand is in your pocket, or from the top, you pull up w/ the weak hand on the cell phone, bringing the holstered weapon above the belt line and grabbing w/ your strong hand. Since it rest below your belt line, it lays on top of your thigh when sitting and they have a video on that page showing draws from both seated and standing positions, and they also show a lady on there drawing.

Anybody seen these before, or tried them?

Thanks,

Karz

EDIT: Hmmmm FWIW, I went to try and answer my own question, googling the item. It seems this is one of those love it or hate things, w/ a small percentage in the love category. For some people it was the only way they found comfortable to carry, for others some found it cheap, some didn't like dealing w/ their customer service, and some complained they could never get the 'draw' down pat or that it wasn't good to drive/sit with or that on larger guns the buldge was too much. I don't know, I wish I could try one first hand just to see if I was one of the ones that liked it, but there are a lot of negative comments out there. Even if I got something like that, I'd still get one of those other ones, CTAC, GALCO, or something IWB to try that too, but my concern there is being a larger guy it's hard for me to imagine the grip not poking my side, but I have to start somewhere and try something I guess :)

Most women will not wear anything inside their waistband. The things that you and I consider comfortable are totally unacceptable to women.
<www.packing.org> and <www.womanandguns.com> will have lots of info. Oddly enough, most women are so flexible that they can easily draw from an S.O.B. holster with either hand. S.O.B. means small of the back. Anytime you are talking to women about concealment holsters you are dealing with body image, a touchy subject for most of them.

For you: any decent pancake holster worn 4:00 or 8:00 for a lefty.
For her: try crossdraw or appendix carry under her breast.
