I have been trying to decide what evil new weapon to buy since the AWB expired. I have a pretty well rounded collection, and the AR collapsable stock and 16" barrels do nothing for me since I already have a 20" XM-15 which is great for my uses.

Any hoo, I finally decided that I wanted a full sized Glock to go with my stone reliable G-26 carry gun which has never had an FTF or any other kind or failure in the 5 years and 4,000 or so rounds I have put through it.

The other day I was shooting the G-26 at the range and I was amazed at the good accuracy I get at 25 yards with it, so I decided to get a full size glock either a 17 or a 34, mainly for range work. Went to my favorite local shop after researching prices on the errornet. They have a G17 and a G34 in the case, the G34 has a 3.5lb connector, and adjustible sights and great balance. The cool factor is way high, and its only $605 OTD, $50 more than the G17. Only one problem the 34 has the dreaded 10 round clinton magazines. the 17 at $559 OTD has two 17 rounders.

HMMM well the magazines are only $19.99 on the web and $25 at the gunstore. So I figure the 34 is a better deal and its much cooler than the 17 for rangework and gun games.

So out comes the CARD and I buy it.

Yesterday I head out to the range at lunch to test my new toy out.

Accuracy is great, the trigger is by far the best on any glock I have ever shot. One problem the Crappolla magazines I cant get more than 6 rounds in one and 8 rounds in the other. Then the gun starts to jam, on the next to last round and the last round, the bullets are nose diving into the bottom of the feed ramp.

I even have one jam with a cartridge that jammed before and has a damaged bullet nose were it goes 3/4 into the chamber and the gun locks up, Live round 3/4 in the chamber and I cant get it to eject

:cuss: :banghead:

so I tap the slide closed with my hand and fire and it fires and ejects, Whwew I thought I was going to have to send a gun with a live round jammed in the chamber back to Glock.

I procede to fire another 50 rounds after dissassembling the gun to make sure there was no damage, with no problems except the occasional mag induced failure.

I call Glock and tell them about my problem. The tech admits that there have been some problems with the 10 round magazines in the G34.

I try to get them to trade me two 17 rounders for my 2 tens, NO DICE,

They will send me two 10 rounders that they have tested in a 34 and they are sure work. They "can't give everyone 17 rounder for their 10s they tell me, and it would not be fair if they did it for me".:barf:

Here is a pic of my new gun, and a pic of the jam after hand cycling the last round.

Unfortunately this Glock is the least reliable out of the box handgun I have ever bought, That even includes my beta tester Keltec p-32.

Hopefully I can correct the situation with some normal magazines and won't require a trip to Smyrna, Ga. to fix.

Glock being honest

Looks like Glock was honest with you about the Mag. problems this was a good step for Glock. Them sending two new replacment Mags. is also good to hear even if the Hi Cap Mags would have been better.:) Let us know how things go when you go back to the range.:)

So even Glock is shipping new guns that don't work out of the box now, aint't competetion a grand thing :)

We all know 90+ % of all autoloader problems are magazine releated. That's why its important to ship the gun *and* mags back for repair.

Same here!

I bought a 34 a few years ago and it failed to feed about once per three or four magazines. I switched to 17-rd G-17 mags and the gun has not malfunctioned since then. Good luck!

Looks like it's the mags then.....but on the other hand,I've seen problems with the 3.5 conector's and having light strikes.......just be sure to keep an eye out..

Hopefully those ten rounders glock sends you will work out for ya. Probably woudln't hurt to get your hands on some of the 17 rounders as well just because you can. If the new mags will indeed fix the problem, I'd be happy just not having to go through the process of sending my gun back to the factory.

My Glock 34 has only jammed up once and it was similar to your issue with the round 3/4 of the way in. I couldn't rack the slide to get it out and I had a helluva time getting the slide into battery so I could pull the trigger. Eventually got it to go boom and haven't had a problem since. I came to the conclusion it was limp wristing since I was shooting one handed with my weak hand for the first time.

Best of luck to you in getting it working

I went through a nasty evolution with my Glock 34, with similar issues. I changed out mag followers ( didn't work), monkeyed around with it for a while, then changed recoil springs and guide rods. Took me a while, and I am butt stubborn when working on stuff, so persistance paid off.

It works like a champ now, but mags aren't the only issue with the 34's in my experience.

Another upgrade I did at the same time was ditch the stock sights and I put on a set of Hienie Slantpro's that are race cut, MAJOR improvement in the sights.

MAGS THE ISSUE

Well yesterday I bought two 17 rounders, Brand New Glocks without the ban language scrawled on them:D

$25 each from my favorite local shop,

Today I went over to the club and put 100 rounds downrange.

Not a single bobble or misfeed of any type, I even tried to "limpwrist "
The gun to see if I could induce a jam, and it functioned flawlessly.

I was able to keep all of the rounds inside the 6 ring of the NRA 25 yard Bullseye target at 25 yards and half of them inside the 8 ring, with more then a few bullseyes.

I'm not sure what I will do with the 10 rounders Glock is sending me, they are getting the ones that malfunctioned back though by return mail.

I'm relieved that the pistol did not require any additional work to make it reliable.

Use the 10rd ones to practice rapid mag swaps, so if they hit the concrete it's no big loss.

That's what I use mine for. Sorry to hear about the crappy 10rd mags though. Both of my 34's worked OK with the mags shipped with them.

Time now to get some factory 17dr ones for mine too. Though the 17rd Pro-mags did me well for the last 7 or so years.

Bought one in '99 and never had any trouble with them if I was using Glock-made magazines whether they were the 17 or 10 rounders.

Scratch that- when girls with girly wrists fired it, it would frequently jam. When told to hold it tighter and lock their wrists, that often stopped.

Other than limp-wristing, I've never been able to mess it up and never even think about which kind of ammo it likes, it just never fails to run.

I bought a Glock 34 on a whim and it has turned out to be my favorite 9mm handgun.
It has never bobbled or choked no matter what I feed it but I have to admit I never did use the 10 shot magazines in the pistol.
I had some standard 17 shot magazines on hand and that is what I use in the gun.
I really like my Glock 34.

I also have a G34. Sometimes it even gets ccw'd.

My experience has been.

They get more accurate with use.

They are more sensitive to limp wristing (when grils are shooting).

Magazine problems with followers & springs and such are more common.

My thoughts on this are caused by the slightly longer barrel and lightened slide. Regardless, when you get a G34 to run, it really is fun.

A tungsten guide rod tends to make everything work better with the 34's lighened slide.

I used to shoot my Glock 35 in USPSA matches, but the mags were the problem. Other friends had the same issue. The hi-caps would swell after moderate use. Great pistol, but the mags were not equal to the gun. A number of friends switched to XD-40 Tacticals just because of the higher quality of the magazines. (and if you like green, it is a better green than the baby-_____ brown that Glocks come in). Don't get me wrong, I still love my G35, but mag replacement is an issue for reliability.
