I have a Ruger LCP - 1st Gen. I really hate shooting that gun. But, it makes a good pocket gun. However, I am not a huge fan, but at least it is reliable. The LCP Max doesn't really interest me, though.

I started reading and watching reviews of the Glock 42. I rented it a couple of weeks ago. I rented it gain today - then went and bought one.

I put 150 rounds thru the gun. I usually don't like Glock factory sights or the Glock grip angle. But on this little gun, the grip angle doesn't really effect me as much. And, I like the sights - especially compared to the LCP sights.

Anyway - gun is very accurate. I was surprised. Low recoil too. After shooting 150 rounds thru it, it took me a little while to adjust to 9mm again.

I picked up 1 extra mag for now, so I have 3. I was surprised how I could just rapid fire the entire mag and still do so well. I like this little gun.

It has its place. Will it replace my 9mms? No - But, I think I will start using it in place of the LCP

I hated shooting my LCP as well

The G42 disappears in a pocket holster.

Bigger is better…. If you have it on you. This is so light and easy to shoot.

Recently I shot 2gr. Red Dot under a 120gr Lee TC bullet sized to .356. Shot amazing and soft too.

G42 is an ideal small gun. Big enough to shoot, small enough to stick anywhere .
Mines from about a month after release, it's never had a failure of any kind and I've swam in the ocean with it a few times. Good gun

That is Great to hear!! They are a wonderful little pistol!

I've had my little G42 since 2017. At first I thought I would never get the hang of it being so small in my hands. I practiced and practiced, reloaded my brass, practiced and practiced (even practiced in the house by balancing a dime on the flat of the front sight while squeezing the trigger on an empty chamber)...then one day it all fell together. I love that little gun it goes with me everywhere.

Just a single data point but my Glock 42 does not shoot my reloads reliably. My reloads function just fine in several other 380 ACP pistols (Beretta 84 and 85FS, S&W/Walther PPK, Walther PP, KelTec P3-AT, Colt 1908, Colt Mustang, Kimber Micro, Sig P238 with the flat wire recoil spring, Browning 1911-380).

The Glock 42 works reliably with factory ammunition but my reloads are loaded comparable to factory ammunition. Go figure.

My Glock 42 is a safe queen.

Again, just a single data point.

What is your bullet weight? It probably needs 100 or 102 grain. It's a little weird, you'd think that muzzle energy that determines how everything works, but in my experience the weight is necessary in a new G42.

I do a not specifically remember as I load 90-100 grain RN depending on what I find at a reasonable price. Ditto with remembering the factory ammunition.

I do not shoot many HP's in the 380s. I feel expansion is iffy at best so why waste the extra money on buying them.

But, thanks for the tip, I'll have make a conscious effort to try some heavier bullets and chronograph them and see what works and what doesn't.

If it wasn't for reloads my G42 might gather some dust.

90 gr XTP with 4.7 grain of power pistol and 90 gr Sierra Sports Master with 4.0 grain of power pistol are excellent loads in my particular pistol.

Factory Hornady Custom with the 90 gr xtp shoots decent. When I am out and about, I carry a mix of those Hornady and 100 grain Underwood

I'm of pretty similar opinion on the LCP. However, at this point I'd never get near out of it what I have in it.

I hated the LCP but love my LCP II. It has been a very reliable pocket pistol for me. I have been looking at the Glock 42 to help burn up some of the 380 ammo I have accumulated. I pick up a S&W PC EZ Shield for the wife and it is a decent pistol, reliable, but not accurate.
