Hey guys, just been trying to fight off a G21 bug lately, but I think this might be out of my hands... do any of you with experience with both know if the aftermarket for the gen 4 is close to that of the gen 3? Do holsters cross over between models? I know the big differences in both, and to be honest I don't care which I get, as long as its aftermarket is plentiful.

Also, as far as buying one... I've read the gen 4 comes with three magazines, the loader, and the gun. Is the gen 3 the same?

Thanks!

Thanks. Speaking of magazines, do the SF and regular gen 3's have the same magazines?

Hmm, I seem to remember that the G21SF had an ambidextrous magazine release (that was not popular). I think it was the version of the G21SF that had a picatinny rail instead of the usual Glock-Weaver-notquite-a-picatinny-rail.

I believe it had different magazines to make that work, but I think ("think" is not "know") that the magazines were cross compatible. in other words, the G21SF mags would work in the regular G21, but the regular G21 mags would not necessarily work in the G21SF with the Ambi-release.

Easiest way to answer this would be to find a gunshop that has all of them in stock (Gen3 G21, G21SF and Gen4 G21) and try swapping magazines back and forth.

I havent tried a new Gen4 G21, but I have a Gen3 G20 (10mm) and I really like it.:)

Both the G21 and the G21SF share the same magazines (as do the G20 and the G20SF) and you can even use Gen 1, Gen 2, and Gen 3 magazines in a Gen 4 gun (if you are using the right handed magazine release). The rails are the same, both will have the same magazine release (Gen 4 is reversible/ambidextrous). Also, the magazine release on the Gen 4 is noticeably larger.

They (the G21 and G21SF) are the exact same gun, except the SF has a "short(er) frame"

I'm pretty sure most everything is interchangeable between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 (minus what was mentioned above). Holsters for the Gen 3 will fit the Gen 4. It is a Glock, there will be a plethora of aftermarket support for you (maybe not quite as much as an AR though ;))

Enjoy your 21:) It's my favorite Glock model of them all. I have a 3rd gen trade-in from a cop who wanted to make sure his off duty weapon matched his duty carry.

I really tried to like other .45's but nothing offered anything as perfect (for me) as the Glock 21. Affordable, accurate, high capacity, and as reliable as all get-out. It's not as sexy as a 1911, but I shoot it better and manipulate it better as I am a lefty.

I'm sure I will! I hope to have it tomorrow. I'm planning to use this as a plinker and a woods gun, so I don't want a 1911 because the Glock is already ugly... I won't mind getting it dirty and scratched lol.

Picked up the Gen 4 for $560, over the Gen 3 for $549... I prefer the feel of the Gen 4 WAY more than the Gen 3. I can reach the mag release without having to adjust my grip!

All this talk of Glock 21s gets me excited, Here is a picture of my gen3 21SF, which is my next to the bed gun.

Yeah, I'm hoping to get out and shoot it today, and maybe go get a holster, but every store around here is closed on Sunday... Horrible business model.

You like the TLR-2, and have you found a holster that'll fit it?

@Inebriated: I like the TLR-2 because I was able to pick it up on Ebay for half the price of a new one, plus Streamlight has a lifetime warranty so a used one isn't as much of a risk to purchase. As far as a holster goes I don't have one for it yet because it is not my main CCW gun. However, for my Sig 229 I use a Galco concealment holster and I really like it. They make one for the Glock 21 as well, they ride high above the waste and are very comfortable.
Here is a pic I found of a G21 in a Galco Concealable Holster

I really like that... I haven't got a holster yet, but I am in between nice leather or a Safariland type (very nice from my experience). I like the retention on Safariland (I feel weird having it just sitting there for anyone to mess with), but I prefer the leather look. Decisions, decisions.

Really?

Why worry about aftermarket????
Read my synopsis on the Glock 21 Gen 4.

Best gen 4 out there for starters. what the gen 4 was intended for = less felt recoil and smaller grip. also the availability to change the grips circumfrance.... if infact it was a circle? anywho. please don't buy old technology. there is a reason the 4th gen came out.

on other hand the coating on the slide is different.

may be another question you need to ask.

posted this a little late. glad you chose the glock 21 gen 4

I went with the Gen 4 because of fit and the deal. I didn't really care that it lessens recoil. I don't find .45 to be very bad at all to begin with, but it's a plus if it works well.

You may not care whether or not about the lessened recoil, you may also just shoot a round and say oh nice. What I was getting at is in any home invasion or say LE combat course; follow up shots are important. Of course anyone can shoot a .45 acp and be accurate. So shooting plink....plink...plink is a little different when there is no stress or things that can can alter your grip on the firearm. All in all I think the gen4 was a good decision. Saying you didn't care about less recoil is another matter.
