New Glock

I went to the gun show today and came home with a Gen3 Glock 19. This pistol has a large following, and I have been curious. I look forward to my first range trip.

Good deal indeed. I am very fond of CZ and CZ-based semi-autos for sporting, and my carry guns are revolvers.

But my HD handgun is a Glock.

honestly, i kind of wish that i had gotten a 19 instead of my 27 or 22. its just such a convienient size/capacity.

Assuming it has a potential future defensive role, I would argue that a gun which is unable to function with factory ammo, for whatever excuse, already has one mark against it.

I am of the belief that a defensive firearm needs to work, plain and simple, even if all of the conditions are not set to its favor, because there is no telling what might not be 'just right' if, God forbid, you ever have to use it.

That price is so low I have to wonder if it was truly NIB.

Glocks just don't go for $450 brand new. That is a great price.

I just picked one up a few weeks ago at a LGS for $450. It was sold as "used" but I would be hard-pressed to prove it was fired. No oil or copper grease (previous owner must have cleaned it) and absolutely no sign of wear or use...except the rear sight had been moved slightly. Came with an LE mag and a commercial one...

Guess it didn't pass the "home test".

I have to disagree with the crappy ammo test.

That's like putting bald tires on your car in the middle of a Minnesota snow storm, and then when you wind up in the ditch you say the car's just not tough enough.

The car is fine.

It's the tires that suck.

If your pistol is new, I would recommend...plenty of ammo and practice.

*A good holster.
*Night sights...nice but not required.
*I like rubber grips on mine.
*GAP Enterprises mag floorplates or Pierce +0 mag extentions.

Did I mention ammo?

That's about all I can think of for now.

The ergonomics of the Glock are not quiet as different as I first thought. After handling it for a while, the often mentioned grip angle issue is not really a problem for me.

What I found really interesting is that my new pistol settled into my left hand as if it was made just for it.

Yes, I advise people to ingore comment's on the ergos of Glock pistols, and just pick one up and try it for yourself. I found the original G17 grip fit my hand just fine the first time I picked one up. The angle and size seemed just fine. When I first bought my G21 I admit the grip did seem a bit large, because it was larger than any other pistol and revolver I had used to that point, but after a couple boxes of ammo went down range I hardly noticed the size anymore.

Just picked up a gen 3 glock 19 NIB last week as well, good choice! I would suggest you clean/re-lube it before your first shoot. Mine gun was very dry and I was having minor issues until I took it apart and cleaned it. Ever since then not even the slightest issue! 1000 rounds without a jam so far!

Just don't clean off the copper grease. In fact, the Glock manual says NOT TO CLEAN factory-new pistols for the first 500 rounds. Feel free to ADD some good lube in the appropriate areas, however.

Just don't overdo it.

I would also recommend leaving the copper grease (even though I didn't with mine), however my glock manual says to clean the gun even before the first time shooting it.
