First off, please don't just vote on the poll. Leave a comment about what you think even if you don't know why besides you like what you've heard compared to the other rifle.

So I just bought a FAL about 7 Months ago, but realized after I had it for four months that it's not the type I want. It's a great gun & everything, just can't find anything to deck it out with. So I've been thinking for a good three months now & I still can't decide what I want to do. That's where you guys come it! I've narrowed it down to two choices.

A FAL in a Para form as opposed to the original inch or metric, so that I can put a better stock on it that's not bulky & just little changes like that. With an "18 barrel because in my opinion that's the best of both worlds in the barrel lengths.

Or an AR-10 plat form ,with a piston system like the REPR from LWRC, since i already have a FAL & am looking for a tactical rifle in .308. Also with an "18 barrel.

The Prices are $1200 as opposed to $3500, But the REPR comes with everything I want besides some glass. The FAL I'd still have to buy the stock I want, the glass, the irons, ect.

Your guys opinions & why?

If you want a rifle to "deck out" and customize to your liking, you should go with some type of AR since they make the widest variety of after market components. Are you settled on gas piston operation? Because if you went with something like a DPMS LR-308 or Armalite AR-10, or even a custom build on a MA-Ten receiver set, you could set it up pretty much however you want and they are a hell of a lot less to get into than a REPR.

Yeah the piston system is the way for me. I used to have a basic DPMS AR-15 & even with that small bullet & little bit of powder after 200 rounds it was gunking up & jamming about 1 in 10 rounds unless I got more oil in there. Then I decided I wanted a .308 since it has more knock down power so I went with my FAL & so far I've loved the piston system but I can't get any stocks that I want on it to make it shorter since it's not a PARA configuration. Thats why I want a nice piston system in the AR-10 like the REPR.

Their is only 2 AR-10 platforms that I know run on the piston system though & thats the LWRC REPR & the Christensen arms CA-10 I think they call it? & they're both the same amount only Christensen makes their's out of mostly carbon fiber like the barrel & what not.

So if you know anybody else that makes one let me know & I'll go look at it & research it up.

+1 on the AR piston system. It's a lot cleaner and often more reliable than DI.

If you ever what to change a part or if something wears out it's going to be a lot easier to replace on the AR format.

The FAL will be simpler and looser meaning tough and reliable but you loose accuracy and tons of AR parts which are cheaper.

I would say you had a malfunctioning rifle rather than blame the entire DI system. 200 rounds before failure is not typical for a proper DI rifle. You should be looking at 1,000+ before you need to hit it with a bit more lube and 5,000+ before you have to consider cleaning (some rifles have gone 10x that number without cleaning).

It's your money, so spend it how you feel, but I wouldn't skip a quality AR because it doesn't have a piston. Buy a properly built rifle with quality parts, DI or Piston, and it will run a long time without needing cleaning.

My brother got a REPR, sweet machine. It did have a malfunction though, ironically on the first deer he had his sight on. It hasn't ****ed up since. He took it out to our range and shot over 200 rounds through it immediately after, it has functioned flawlessly since. We did buy it used, but it only had probably 50 rounds through it. We probably put over 500 rounds through it in 2 weekends before and after our hunting trip.

Sweet shooting rifle though, we got it with a Leupold MK 4 cqc/t, I think it was... Anyhow we were punching out the bullseye's on every target we had at 100 yards. We were gonna take it to 200 but we ran out of time.

My brother and I loved the side charging handle, he wanted to take it back to Iraq with him but lol, he got a no go hehe. I am a firm believer in LWRC though, I own their M6A2 in 6.8 also. Never had a problem with it, never had a failure, always been spot on dangerous. It shoots better than me any day of the week.

My brother bought a NF 5.5-20 or whatever variable it was, don't feel like looking it up, for the REPR also. It's incredible how accurate that gun is, but it's sorta unwieldy imo. Although he disagrees (being he is used to AR's from the military and thinks it is awesome in comparison to his M4 he lugs around).
