So purdy!!!! Now you need to get a Kirst Konverter with loading gate for that 3rd Dragoon. More inheritance money MUST be spent!

Dragoon Loads

I figure a Hornady 45 Cal .457 Round Ball and around 30 Grains of Pyrodex, with a Ox Yoke Wonder Wad ought to do it. If they recoil gets to be a bit much, I'll back off and cut the load with some grits or corn meal.

I'm not looking do do any cylinder conversions on either the Walker or Dragoon. I have several modern revolvers that meet that need. I got into Black Powder shooting because I was getting bored with regular range shooting. I still plan on the odd range trip or two with a combination of the two. But who know what can happen down the road.

In addition to the Dragoon, I also have a few other BP Revolvers or Pistols that I can fool around with. So far the only thing that I have spent any time on the range with is the Uberti RM 1871 Conversion of a 1851 Colt Navy, in .38 special. It's the one at top left.

I've only been collecting BP since June or July and hopefully in September I can get out to the range and burn some powder the old fashioned way. I started a college fund for the 2 Grandsons when they were born, their parents will just have to get over it.

As far as your loads are concerned with the Dragoon, I pretty much load both Walker and Dragoon the same. 45gr 3f BP with 8-10gr cornmeal compressed for my idea of a gas check.

That load pretty much fills the Dragoon and leaves some room in the Walker. My wife tells me that she knows when I'm shooting the Dragoon by the echo up and down the canyon walls.

I would advise though if you wear a ring on your shooting hand, take it off before firing, she'll give a little "buck" when you pull the trigger.

Absolutely gorgeous!! I have decided to go with the 2nd model Dragoon, for many of the same reasons OBLOFUSC noted. Thanks!

Uberti 1851 Colt Navy

I would call her a Pocket Colt as well. Taylors lists her as a Uberti 1851 Navy Steel with an Oval Trigger Guard. 5" Barrel. Blued. She's of course .36 Cal. I have a thing for 1851 Navy Colts, wound up with 3 so far. The Pietta I picked up for $142.00. A fellow bought her in 2003, fired a couple of cylinders through it, kept it for 7 years and sold it. I haven't had a chance to get either of the BPs out to the range yet. So far they're Safe Queens.

Same thing with the Pietta 1858 Remington, .44 cal and the Ruger Old Army SS (2nd and 3rd Down on Right). Both these were made in 1976 and have never been to the range. I doubt that will last, I was never into Vestal Virgins.

I started throwing this collection together in June and it's a mixture of old and newly made replicas. Plus has a wide range in selections. The Ruger Old Armys accounted for about a Third of the cost, but what the heck. The cost of one good original would have been about as much.
