i have two mosins that about 18 pounds so if you got the gold i got the guns
Knew that extra heft was there for something other than cracking a Jerry over the head. ;)

Congrats on the Mosin. Good looking specimen. But, beware! Mosinitis is a serious and incurable disease. Once you see how fun these inexpensive rifles are to shoot, collecting them becomes addictive. It's like eating Lays potato chips out of a fresh bag. You can't stop at one. LOL! I have 4 in my collection. A 91/30, a M/44, a m/28 Finn, and a m/39 Finn. But there are so many other types and variants out there. m/91 Finns, m/27 Finns, m/38's, 91/59's, Chinese models, Polish models, Older Dragoons, etc, etc, etc, . And I want one of them all. LOL!

furniture re-finishing

I purchased a 91/30 for my first MN. Took it apart and with all the cosmoline removed found the reddish color under the top forearm piece. It took me weeks to match this color, starting with a very red cherry stain then darkening with walnut stain. Untimately, I got it to look the way "I wanted it" the heck with anyone else. And for 80 bucks it was lots of fun. Next I worked on accurizing it. At first the holes were about 6 inches apart shooting from a bench rest at targets 100 yards down range. Lots of barrel cleaning with J&B rouge, and most importantly, corking the barrel up under the first band. WOW! dropped the pattern to 3/4 of an inch. I added the ATI mount and a nice Bushnel scope to achieve this.

As pointed out, MN's become addictive, so my next purchase was a M44, and once again, I refinished the stock, this time going to a very thick glossy varnish. Now I know this is nothing like a Real fielded MN, but I tell you this cuz it is all what YOU like... I'm not a MN collector for their antique value, just like the inexpensive shooting (Both ammo and actual rifle) of a Powerful rifle. As far as acquiring MN's, I look for the best rifling first, I want Re-arseneled, and prefer matching numbers, but the latter is not all that important.

One last point. I have yet to find a Mosin that hasn't been soaking in Cosmoline for decades. This means that removal of the cosmoline is gonna take a lot of effort. I use Gasoline and rags outside or course.

It absolutly is incurable, I can tell already. I think I'm gonna go back today and see if they will take 100 cash for the m-44 pol. The stock is super beat up from carrying around, but they guarantee the function of the gun for 1 year on ALL the guns they sell. Guess thats one of the benifits of buying from a local yokel gun shop haha.

and THEN I gotta figure out how to get my hands on a 1895 Nagant revolver!

Where did you end up buying it at? I haven't seen many places in MI with surplus 7.62 ammo besides On Target in Kzoo.

Last time I bought ammo was online, 800 Czech for $180

I got it at Dunhams sports. Got the ammo there too.

I went back to the private gun shop I went to a couple days ago and tried to see if he would deal on that m44 carbine polish and he only would knock 10 bucks off which made it 125. I would have taken it for closer to 100 bucks, but the bolt is not original in the first place, and its all worn out too! I'm applying for a C&R license and I'll try to get a nice one online, along with a Nagant Revolver. Thinking about starting a WWII gun collection while they are reasonably priced now.
