New High Standard Revolvers???

Sorry if this has been covered; I can't seem to get the search feature to work, right now.

At a couple of recent shows, I've seen NIB High Standard .38 Special snubbies; reminiscent of the old Colt Agent (except in all-steel); 6-round cylinders, very short grip frames, shrouded barrels, etc.

Anyone have any info or experience with these?

If it's offered by the Texas "High Standard" company, you may rest assured the gun is junk: everything else the company makes is scrap iron.

I was at a gun shop the other day and I saw one, along with an Armscor revolver. They were both made in the Philippines, were both pretty cheap, and both looked kind of like they were made of die cast metal. For a few bucks more, I picked up a used Colt Official Police MK III.

The new company seems to have an attitude problem. I have an old Hi Standard Supermatic Tournament Military. Because of the age of the gun, given as a Christmas present in the 70's, I asked them if the current mfg magazines would work with my pistol. In an off hand remark, I said I was a little paranoid about losing my original magazine. Allan Rothstein's reply from Hi Standard was that If I kept my magazine in the pistol where it belonged, I wouldn't have a problem.

I thought this was a kind of smarta** remark and told them so. No reply!

I never actually inspected the ones I observed at the show; they were cable-locked, naturally, and I wasn't interested enough to ask for one to be released for actual handling. They were "matte-finished" and hefty, with a very short butt.

I know High Standard has gone through a couple of incarnations; hence, my inability to work up a serious interest in these revolvers. I have a very old Sentinel snub (with factory-bobbed hammer spur) that is still a dandy kit gun. Unless I find a good used specimen from the same era, for a decent price, looks like it'll have no close relatives . . .
