Just purchased this and yes I know its not a real AR its all I need. My AR15's are all gone but it looks like this will be a fun rifle to shoot. Had it apart to check over and oil, looks to be very well built. Shot a couple of rounds in my back yard into some plywood so it does shoot. Taking it out to the range this week to sight in. Just wondering if anyone else has one? I almost purchased the S&W 15-22 but all the plastic and lack of magazines sent me this route.

Took to the Range today and ran about 5-6 20 Rd magazines down the tube. Even with just the factory sights it did a decent job. BUT the trigger was worse than bad, the break / pull was not that bad but I could not pull with my normal trigger finger. This is the finger that was operated on but I can pull fine on every one of my other toys, this one I had to use my middle finger.

The Bad part is you have to let completely off, I mean zero pressure on the trigger or it locks tight!!! So fire, let completely off and pull the full 1 inch or whatever to fire again or it will Lock Up.

But no FTF or FTE, and it shot it all, very happy but shopping for a trigger improvement kit or whatever. Suggestions?
Well I just ordered from HK the match grade trigger spring kit, hope that helps!

I’m glad it’s reliable, but that’s a shame about the trigger. In this age, there isn’t an excuse for poor triggers. Companies have repeatedly shown that they can produce guns with good triggers for the same or slightly higher cost as their previous versions and/or competition. It seems like a manufacturer would only have to devote minimal time and effort towards ensuring a decent trigger. I believe most people want a gun that is 1) reliable, 2) accurate, and 3) easy to shoot (a good trigger).

I had one of these rifles for a while but sold it and bought the S&W M&P 15-22 instead. The trigger was the main reason I traded. I was disappointed to find that the HK was really a Umerex in disguise. The buffer came apart within 500 rounds and I have doubts about the long term lifespan. Although the S&W has a plastic receiver mine is going on 20,000 trouble free rounds.

It still carries the HK brand regardless of who made, kind of like Singer or IBM making M1 Carbines in WW2. The match spring kit for the trigger is suppose to help cure some of the issues. I can buy HK magazines, and I did. Try finding for the S&W MP and I looked before going with the HK. So far except for the trigger I am fine with it. I could find no one with issues with it when I searched online except the trigger.

OK Now first issue, installing the match grade trigger improvement kit. First the trigger assy no longer is die cast aluminum but black plastic and a few other changes. BTW if your considering this, don't. In the process of putting it back together I lost the hammer little spring keeper/cap pictured here is the brass one I made on my metal lathe. Why?? So far NO BODY seems to have them in stock or otherwise, neither of the HK places I tried carry. I have an un- answered email sent to the main HK-USA will let you know if and when it gets answered.

I've had mine for about 5 years or so (mine's the earlier version with the Picatinny handguard)...probably a couple of thousand rounds through it, no issues. The trigger on mine is about par with my other AR's...no issue with the pull or reset on mine.

Yes there is a video online from HK but it needs a little updating, I got it done and tested.... a few tips.

Just got done with the spring upgrade. Do not attempt unless you can handle stress well. Take pictures as you go along!! #1 once you get the trigger spring and the next one up in place use a tiny 2 inch C clamp to gently hold it all together. #2 Use a dab of grease to hold the large end of the tiny trigger spring in the hole. #3 The safety ball indent does not go in that hole. Refer to the pictures you took! Be aware IF you lose that hammer spring keeper there appears to be no Source for parts!! I had to make a new one on my metal lathe. HK Parts... where are you??

I loved my Armi Jaeger AP74! Very accurate and, aside from the magazine, pretty true to the real AR platform.

Its a beautiful gun, shoots well and now a improved trigger. I just got an email from HK in Georgia, they do not have a clue... told me they do not sell a match trigger upgrade spring kit!!!

I would of built a AR15-22 had I known the parts suggested on here were for sale.

Well I will never purchase another HK anything. Its a beautiful gun, shoots well and now a improved trigger. I just got an email from HK in Georgia, they do not have a clue
Now, it's my understanding, now, (which could well be wrong) that this is an Umarex branded to HK (much like the Umarex HK MP5 in .22lr is).
Which may explain why HK USA is so clueless about this.

Yeah, this is similar to the "Sig" Mosquito, which was made by GSG.

Sig and HK have little to do with these products, other than collect royalties from the cheapo companies that make them.

No, those companies were making firearms to a spec sheet and standard, intended to be interchangeable with other brands.

This thing is a "replica" in 22lr. Big difference.

OK Major update: The HKParts dot Net website is NOT the official HK website and are not authorized to sell those kits. Regardless the part I needed was OEM. Finally got thru to someone in Georgia and in spite of wanting to tell me I screwed up by losing the part at least 5 times he sent me a PDF of the entire rifle and Parts are available from Customer Service.
PN 576.20.14.1 They call it a Hammer Spring Receptor.

He told me they sell very few parts for the HK guns, rarely do they break and only dumb people (like me) take guns apart and lose parts!

PDF file of the HK416D-22LR rifle, posted with permission. BTW unless you have taken that above mentioned trigger group apart you will never know. Especially when you have 78 year old fingers that don't always work the best!

Took out to the range and got it pretty much where I wanted it for now. Had to order a 10 rd magazine so next time it can go on my Lead Sled, new trigger seemed to be a real improvement. Had a cheap scope on and it was surprisingly good.

That sounds just like HK service…
Hey, it is like the real thing!:)

Well, you sold me. The one in the cabinet at the shop in town, I’ll leave right where it is.:D
It’s too easy to build a dedicated AR, than to give them, or any associated companies, money for that kind of trouble.

I glad you are finally pleased with it, @wmgeorge. I hope it gives a good many years of service.

You might have a couple of hundred more in one you built but then you can blame no one except yourself when it does not work. I see now Sportsmans Warehouse has them back in stock for $399. I would buy another but never ever take that trigger group apart.

Just wanted to add HK sent me the lost part via 2 Day Priority Mail free of charge... that is Customer Service!

Got my 10 round magazine from The Mag Shack
Ordered on July 4th and got yesterday on the 8th and it was shipped for cheap via USPS. Lowest cost OEM magazine I could find shipped at low cost.

FYI an update on the Trigger Improvement Kit, don't do it. Put it in and had about every 20 - 30 Rds had a light primer strike. Did not make any difference what ammo. Sent the gun back to HK to have it returned to stock and I will use it as is. Trigger may be a little rough but at least it shot Everything!!

Yikes!

Tell you what, aside from having to make a firing pin from a hardened nail- which took all of about 5 minutes- I never had a single problem with that Armi Jager after thousands and thousands of rounds down the tube.

They made A1 and A2 replicas over the years and show up from time to time on Gunbroker and Armslist for reasonably low prices. I recommend getting it if you stumble across one. :)
