I have the hots for a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70.
A new one at Academy is $569.99, but it's a REMLIN of course.
I have seen a couple of NIB Marlins with the JM stamped barrel on line and they are always just a couple of dollars under $1,000.
Is that "the market" for an actual new real Marlin Guide Gun with the infamous JM barrel stamp.
On one hand the new Remlin will shoot 45-70''s and is just barely over half price, but the older one is the "REAL MCCOY" and there can't be many left that are new and unfired.
Although I could scrounge up the cash, I don't like throwing money away!

Get the REMLIN, call it a MARLINGTON, and don't look back.
Be the first on your block.
Remember, Bugatti was French before it was Italian...:D

Don't waste money on internet drivel.
Join the fray.
Be brave.
Use the extra ca$h to buy ammo.

HAVE FUN.:)

To my understanding, the "Remlins" have been showing steady improvement over the low point horror stories of 2010/2011. I have not purchased anything new since the changeover, so I don't speak from firsthand experience - just what I've seen posted here and elsewhere.

If I were in your shoes... and I was intent on buying a shooter... I think I would go ahead and take my chances with a "Remlin". BUT... that would be ONLY if I could inspect the individual gun personally and it was to my complete satisfaction.

Paying nearly double might be okay for a collector, but I see no need to do that for a shooter. You may even go on to find that ye olde .45-70 actually is not for you for whatever reason(s) (it has been known to happen). If I had any problems, of course I would send it right back. This is an instance where a small investment in a couple of action proving dummy rounds would be well worth their cost, I would imagine.

Just inspect the Remlin and go with it. Sure, we all want the JM stamped ones but at some point there is the point of diminishing return. For me, if I have two COMPARABLE rifles, I know which one I'd choose. Good luck.

BTW, I'm waiting for the LGS to open tomorrow or go get me a 1895GBL. I checked it out the other day and it was GTG. I was gonna trade a smith I never use, but its a smith and I'm just gonna plunk down the cash.
