So I ordered a brand new Kahr PM45 last week and it arrived at my FFL yesterday and I picked it up this morning. I'm not new to kahr arms guns and this is my third PM45 as I sold .yast two. Anyway for this knowledgeable about kahr arms I'm wondering if .y PM45 has the newer style slide?

I think it's the newer style because it's slight longer and looked more beveled than squared or "blunt nose" like the older generation PM9's used to be. Anyways I love my new PM45 and will report back after I get it to the range this weekend.

Thanks for Any help on this.

I wasn't aware of any changes to the slide other than with the older K series Kahrs which had different dovetail cuts. You aren't confusing the CM45 slide with the PM45 slide are you?

No sir I'm not but after asking over at the kahrtalk forums it appear I have the newer slide on my gun, mine was made in 2013.

Actually kahr did change the slide and recoil spring assembly on the newer PM45 guns. The older style slide is slightly shorter as it sticks out less when the slide is close or in battery fully. Both are fine as I was just curious as to which mine is. Thank you for your reply though.

Yea. I just seen your other post on the Kahr forum. I never owned a Kahr in 45, but I've been thinking about one to keep my 45 Shield company. I learned something new today.

Styx I highly recommend the PM45 it's a great gun. I've had a Shield 45 performance center. They are also great guns but the kahr PM45 is smaller, lighter and thinner than the shield 45. Actually an inch wide which puts it at the same thickness as say a Glock 26 but it's 45 versus 9 mm. It's pretty impressive when you take a 45 ACP gun is the size of most companies single stacked 9 millimeters or just slightly bigger. I had read a magazine article might have been guns and ammo a while back that said I loaded PM 45 weighed like 3 oz less than a Colt detective special. All around a very impressive package

I would definitely consider a PM 45 if I was in the market and didn't already have one. I had a kahr PM9 but I actually sold to finance the purchase of a PM 45 having owned a PM 45 previously it's only slightly bigger than the p on 9 it's no more difficult to carry a conceal in a pocket or an ankle holster but it's a 45 caliber. I say get one to go with your shield you won't be sorry.

Just curious, if you could field strip it and press the striker lug forward and see if the block prevents the striker tip from peeking out past the breech face? Don't snap it just a finger press to see.

Yours looks like the same exact length as the OP's who says he has the longer slide.

[Edit] on second look, the OP does have a slightly longer slide.

Different in some of the beveling too if you look closely…..I’d have to go searching for the receipt, but I’m pretty sure I bought it new 2008’ish perhaps?

Dan-o mine was made in 2013 and has a serial number prefix of SV68**. Both are great guns kahr for whatever reason redesigned the slide on the PM series guns probably just an evolution of design or generational thing.

I've always been a big fan of kahr arms guns having owned several over the years. With this being my eighth one. I've owned PM,CM,CW and MK series guns. All have been good solid reliable guns. Kahr's guns still today seem to gun smaller and thinner than other makers guns in the same calibers.

I find my PM45 no more difficult to conceal or carry than my J frame S&W M&P340 or the PM9 that I sold to finance it. The PM9 was a great gun as well. If I could have afforded to keep it I would have. But I prefer 45acp as I plan on buying another 1911 soon and they can share ammo.

Mine is the older style, it had minor issues early in its life, first 1k rounds or so. Later I noticed wear on the slide under the barrel, I believe that to be the cause of the trouble.
Once I saw it I removed a little more material just to be safe, (I know.. I’m Bubba) it has never had another issue, but like i said it had really cleared up already.

It’s something to watch for, I believe the issue was corrected but a factory u machines in the same place but I’m not certain about that.
I added a pic to clarify the issue.

I love my PM45, it’s my EDC

When I started looking for "versus" pictures when the thread first started, I seen a bunch of reports of early reliability issues when the PM45 was first released back in 2008. I wonder if they made changes for that reason.

I believe that the early issues did have to do with the old style slide. I think I read somewhere that the newer style slide has "U" shaped cut out near the muzzle end of the slide. If memory serves me right the old style or first generation slide was a little bit shorter than the current one. I'm no engineer but maybe that small but of slide length as minute as it was, maybe that pushed the design envelope just enough that it caused issues. I also read issue of frame battering on first generation PM45 guns And the recoil spring assembly was also lengthened along with the slide.

I could be remembering that wrong because it's been a while since I read that. I know the part about the frame battering is right cause my friend had to send his PM45 into kahr for frame battering where it was all chewed up where the recoil spring assembly meets the frame in the tunnel it rides in.

Kahr replaced the frame on it and 500 rounds or so later same thing,he sent it in again and this time they replaced the slide, barrel and recoil spring assembly with the newer slide. Since then he's had no other issues.

I don't know if that had anything to do with why kahr went to a slightly longer slide on the PM45 or not. But I suspect it does as I've seen other threads on kahrtalk forums about this same issue and it always involved an older PM45 with the shorter slide.

My new PM45 runs great from round 1. This is a very well made gun with right tolerances, tight but smooth.

I've got pics of my CM9/PM9's, and an old photo of my P45, if you are interested. Your slide is definitely cut differently than all 3 of those...

Yeah that would be cool. Actually my PM9 that I sold to buy my PM45 was made in 2017,and it too had the slightly longer bevelled slide also.

Also I'm a huge fan of kahr arms I'd stop Hort of calling myself a fanboy though LOL. My all time favorite semi Auto handgun of all time in the Colt 1911,followed by the J frame or snub nose revolver then the kahr arms guns. They all have their pluses and minuses. I've owned and **** then all over the years. Ut the kahr arms guns do run slightly smaller, lighter and thinner than other makers guns in the same caliber.

The PM45 is an awesome handgun there's really nothing else like it as far as I know it you like 45 caliber for CCW. I've owned eight including this one over the years and they have all been very well made guns that have been reliable with what ever I put in them.

Kahr isn't doing so well, so might want to start stocking up on spare wear parts. I am a fan of their steel frame offerings. I've never owned a polymer Kahr, but I own 5 steel frame Kahrs.

As I am... but I'm not a complete Kahr Moonie... my preference is for the 9mm Kahrs only; I think they are the perfect solution as far as size, weight, reliability, and shootability. I've had 2 Kahr 45's... a CW and a P, and neither of them were the sum of their parts like the CW/CM/PM 9's I have. In fact, I traded my full-boat P45 for another CW9.
