Just got a PF9 NIB. I will not get a chance to take ot to the range for about 2 weeks. In the meantime:

I have been reading some on the kel tec boards about "buffing and fluffing" the PF9 out of the box. It is a little confusing to me. I honestly don't like the idea of doing too much tinkering with a firearm.

Can someone explain the fluff and buff procedure so an idiot like me can understand? Also has anyone had success just cleaning and lubing the gun?

Also will refinishing the slide void the warranty. if I were to use a bake procedure or send it off?

Thanks

Not to knock THR, but for Kel-Tec specific questions, consider asking over at ktog.org - they have the full "fluff and buff" instructions for all Kel-Tec weapons.

I've never fluffed and buffed any of my 5 Kel-Tecs, and they've all worked out of the box, with just a normal clean and lube. I'd try shooting it first before messing with it.

i took some fine sandpaper to the grip and trigger of mine to get rid of the sharp edges and flashing from the molds...other than that it ran 100% out of the box

The PF9 my wife carries had the full fluff and buff shortly after she got it home. It was very usable in its factory condition, but the mold lines on the polymer grip were annoying, and neither of us like to carry a blued finish pistol concealed. The only other thing that has been done to her pistol was a good feed ramp polish, to smooth out the feed cycle of the gun with some ammo. The feed ramp polish also makes cleaning the barrels feed ramp much easier.
The mold lines were trimmed with a razor, and a nice, smooth cote of KG Gunkote in flat black now protects the slide.

A friend of mine has one and his ran fine without any "Fluff & Buff"...

The latest issue of "Gun Test" magazine gave the PF9 an "A" rating and the new Ruger LC9 a "C" rating. They used high priced American ammo and there were no problems with it.

I agree with others here. I have not done a fluff'n'buff to any of the 5 Kel-Tec pistols I own and they all run wonderfully.
My own PF-9 ran 100% out of the box with only the normal new gun cleaning and lube.
I suppose if you are bored and just want to fiddle with yours, go ahead and fluff it. As was mentioned, the KTOG forum has all the info.
Personally, I'd wait until I test fired the thing to see if any 'fluffing' is even needed.

Welcome to the club! I bought a few months ago. Ran flawless out of the box and have never had an issue. Handles handloads fine too. Just remember, the manual does not recommend repeated use of +P ammo. I ran some through mine to establish my confidence with it and now use it for self defense only. When I take it to the range, I use only handload plinking ammo.

Congratulations.

Just go over to KTOG and read the tec pages and do what you think you need. I to just smoothed out the rough caseing lines and all the moldings so nothing bits at skin . I do take the gun apart along with the mags and debure and clean and lube. They get your self few hundred rounds of practice ammo and go to break'n you and it in. Mine has in almost 2 years run 100% , no problems.

Same as above - smoothed mold lines and sharp point on the trigger. No f-n-b, just more shooting. Only problem I have had with the gun was the extractor spring screw got loose and would cause FTE's. Some loctite has fixed that.

All you should need right out of the box is more mags and ammo :)

congrats, i have a pf-9 and I love it. almost 600rds through it, and I couldn't be happier. It is reliable, very accurate for as small of a gun as it is, and it has a good trigger. it is long but nice and smooth. I think you will like it alot.

If you need a holster for it and can't find anyone that makes em, let me know. That is exactly why I started making holsters and kydex gear. here is a pic of what I made myself, this is my best seller my IWB design.

bought my pf9 brand new.... at first it had problems with light primer strikes about every 4th or 5th round.... so I sent it back to Keltec for warranty work...... it has been very reliable since then..... its now my concealed carry weapon when I can't carry a full sized gun....

No fluff and buff here either. Just make sure you give that puppy a good break in. Mine didn't start having any problems until 3 or 400 rounds in. Mag started popping out on me, but a new catch and follower has solved that issue.

Don't worry about it. My P-32, P3AT, PF9 and both PLR-16's ran fine without any work.

I honestly don't like the idea of doing too much tinkering with a firearm...............Also will refinishing the slide void the warranty. if I were to use a bake procedure or send it off?

ummmm........:scrutiny:
