while i love my ruger sr22, ive been intrigued by the keltec p17 and got one on holiday sale for $180. took it out for the first time last night…excellent results. without thinking, three inch groups at 20’. reliable, ate even federal automatch. easy to carry, could be a nice, light trail piece.

now some quibbles and questions.

everything about it is lightweight, even the trigger. perhaps a tad too light for my taste.

plastic mags without a follower. will the lips hold up? i couldn’t get in more than 15 rounds, 10 was easy.

narrow grips are slick. my immediate solution is inelegant grip tape. are there any hogue, pachmayr, etc rubber slip-on grip solutions?

reactions and suggestions welcome!

I bought one last summer as a cheap but fun plinker. Shoots well enough, good for what I expected. I don't like the mags. A bit harder to load than other modern .22 mags. I also do not appreciate that it required a tool to dismantle and clean. Compare to the Taurus TX line up. IMHO the Taurus is the gun to have over the Keltec

The one I have has been great. Hard to beat a $180, 17 round threaded barreled 22LR. Mines are everything I’ve fed it with a suppressor. Should try some with out the suppressor to see how it does.

I have one that is a suppressor host, really happy with it for the price. As far as the grips, go to a bicycle shop and ask for their old tubes. Cut a piece off one that fits and roll it on the grip like its prom night.

Talon Grip has become my favorite go-to for slicker grips. Not really that expensive and look nice. Two types, rubber and sandpaperish.

I've seen the ads, and watched the YouTube videos.

Looks like great value for the money.

I handload .38 -- So I can shoot .38 for just about the same price as I can shoot quality .22. So probably not gonna add one to my accumulation.

I handled one the other day at the gun show. Felt good in the hand.

I seem to recall one or two of the YouTube guys said theirs ran fine with the open sights. Choked when an optic was added. Which wouldn't be an issue for me. I have one pistol with an optic on it. That's enough for me. I'm not an "optics all the things" kind of guy.

I can see where the light weight might be appealing on trail walks if you don't mind being limited to .22 performance. It is light weight.
