I'm am going crazy trying to decide what to do!! I saved my money and have about $1000.00 for my primary carry gun, I can not make a decision!I have been talked out of a Kimber by one store and pushed to a Smith Airwieght. Another store pushed me to a Glock 26 or 36. I have been shooting 1911's and really like the Ultra carry II or the CDP. I don't know which way to go. I'm an average sized guy 5'10" 180 ,I want to carry IWB.I realize nothing is perfect, But I have a Kel -Tec p-.32 for light carry, and a PA-63 in 9x18 for mid wieght, a full size 1911. Now help me decide my primary.:banghead: :banghead:

I'm saving up (and selling stuff) for a new Kimber Tactical Pro II. My best friend just bought a Pro Carry II and I handled that just long enough to fall in love with it. The XD40 has to go!!!

The Ultra Carry and CDP are very nice too. Don't be too hasty to change your mind about what you had your heart set on. You don't wanna get something you didn't really want and kick yourself later on.

How did this person talk you out of the Kimber if I may ask?

He told me quality problems, sights falling off springs breaking. And that when you pay that much for a gun you should not have those kind of problems.

1k Budget?

I'd also consider a higher end Springfield Armory or even the new Sig 1911. You'll be the envy of the block with the new Sig! :D

I've owned a Kimber Pro Carry Series I. It was a nice weapon but had a chamber a bit on the tight side. I also had touch up the mag catch a bit with a file to get the mags to go in smoothly. Not saying that this is typical of a Kimber, but it's just my experience.

My #1 carry gun is a Kimber Compact in all stainless. Easy to conceal, superb shooter, 100% reliable-hard to beat in its intended role. I agree that if you had already decided you want a Kimber, you will NEVER be happy till you get one. You could do MUCH worse! GO for it!

if you are looking for a full size 1911, why not get something like the TLE, priced around $700, and spend the rest replacing some of the MIM parts (slide stop, extractor, msh, whatever else).

or how about teh s&w1911?

I've got, and carry, the Kimber Gold Match Ten II and haven't had a problem with it except that it doesn't really care for some of the semi-wadcutter ammo I no longer reload (not unusual with several 1911s out there).

I know of several guys around the range that own Kimber and it's one reason I decided to go with Kimber.

I know of no one who has had serious problems with their's.

Whenever I hear of someone slamming a particular gun I always ask for particular facts such as the test group providing their findings, specific problems, etc.

I've found most ranting comes from a person who has had a single bad experience and not a group having common problems.

I had a Kimber Ultra Carry I fabulous gun I sold it because it was not very comfortable to shoot. The trigger was nice and the gun was extremely accurate. I was set on a Pro CDP or a Pro Eclipse. I went and looked at several Kimbers and was sick how the quality has gone down considerably. The finish and fit was spotty, the trigger was still nice. I looked at the NRM Colt it was smooth but trigger was not all that. I bought I Springfield Champion It was extremely tight, trigger was ok but not like the kimber. I bought a loaded champion all stainless night sights, ambi levers, high ride beavertail for $850. Gun is very accurate no low left stuff like every one says. It is requiring some break in and lots of lube to loosen it up a bit.

Thanks for all the feedback. Tomorrow I go in front of the gun board, the last step of getting my CCW. On the way home I'm stopping at a gun store I have delt with in the past. It's sorta on the way home from the County court hose where I have to go. Hopefully something catches my eye. I don't want to regret my decision.

Thanks again,

Greeting's All-

Well, let me talk you out of the opinions you listed;
and into a real "workhorse" of a firearm for your
primary CCW piece!:uhoh: I'm talk'in about the
world class .45 caliber SIG-SAUER P220A. Ask
any owner of SIG Classic P-series self-loader's
about his and/or her P220A and I'll bet that you
will get a glamouring response! These weapons
are noted for their outstanding reliability, very
good "combat accuracy" and quality of the
craftsmanship that goes into each weapon.
For between $600-700, I don't see how you could
go wrong? Then take the remainder and buy a case
of practice ammunition.

Learn to master the SIG's double-action first shot,
and everything else will come naturally!

Best Wishes,

A pre-Series II Kimber Compact (4" barrel, short grip) is tough to beat. The Dan Wesson Patriot CCO (4.25" barrel, short grip) looks promising, too. I wouldn't go shorter than a 4" barrel on a 1911.

Well I got my CCW! I also stopped on the way home and bought a Kimber Compact CDP II. I had to get it With cash in pocket and my card hot off the laminating press! I paid $850.00 NIB I think I did all right. It had a little nick in the frame that I toched up with a marker. I figure as a carry gun it will get more.

Kimber Compact CDP

I've got the samething eccept series I, and really enjoy it. it has been totally reliable and very accurate considering its 4" barrel & lightweight. Hope you like yours and give us a shooting report. :)
