New Knife in the works... This time, less "shank-ish"

Everyone that has seen my first knife has said "that'd be a good little skinner", and everyone that has seen my second knife has said "nice prison shank", so I wanted my third knife to be #1 more substantial, and #2 less shanky...

This is still a work in progress, but the sheath is done, and the blade is shaped but still needs to be sanded and polished and then handled... The cord wrap is just so I can handle it for now. I already have a piece of zebrawood and stabilized walnut for the scales.

I wanted to try a couple of different things at one time on the sheath, that's why it seems a little "busy"...

Very cool, that will look nice with the zebrano once it is polished.

The back edge looks a little boring/straight. Maybe you need some kind of hook or teeth back there? Just thinking out loud.

that's a pretty sweet knife. i'd love to see it with a real handle, like stacked leather. i disagree about the spine; sawteeth belong on a saw. and that sheath is BEAUTIFUL.

I'm with Jah on the saw teeth... I've never been a fan of those. What I DO like is the knurled thumb rest, but with an all around guard, that would be silly here... I also dont like gut-hooks on knives... So this one MIGHT get some light filework, but its not very likely.

Not a fan of stacked leather either... the zebra wood is actually a pen-blank, so it will be horizontal for the upper 3/4", and then most of the handle will be the walnut. I think it will have a nice effect, but we'll see... *fingers crossed*

The blade shape resembles a shortened version of the old military 1918 bolo knife. Handsome so far, will look much better with real handle scales.

I actually got to hang out with Jim Adams (BlackToeKnives) and his wife for a few hours last night, and they are both awesome people. I can see how part of the addiction to knife making is about meeting people, almost as much as making stuff...

Anyway, Jim brought up the idea of making some lockbacks that would actually be USED as my Christmas presents and I am starting to like that idea more and more. You will certainly see more ACT's in the future, but maybe not in groups of 3...

Then you two need to collaborate on it, and you can make sure it is historically accurate, and he can do the technical work... That could make a good team.

Here's how my "ACT" is going be until I figure out something else to try out on it... (like silver wire inlay ) BTW, I made the holster also. It had a light basket weave pattern on the sides, but it faded out during wet-forming.

Thanks J... That means a lot coming from admins who see all sorts of stuff everyday!

I love the leather work, almost more than the knifemaking. I think I will be making knives, just to have an excuse to make the sheath. And I already had someone ask me about making a sheath for a knife that their grandfather brought back from WWII... Talk about an honor!

It is always great to hear that. I think I have handled and looked at this one so much that it seems like no big deal and I am sorta tired of it and want to make another one now.
