Starting Sept 1 all illegal knives will no longer be illegal.

Wanna carry a sword or a spear? Go for it.

I'm gonna order a sword cane since that it's not required of me to carry my gun and permit to carry it. My permit had allowed me to carry illegal blades since 2015 but I had to carry my gun too.

This law is good news for me.

Wish we had it in TN. I might get a sword cane, but I'm already thinking about a cane anyway.

There are some caveats.

1. If the knife is over 5.5" in blade length you must be 18 or over.
2. Don't go for it everywhere. There is a list of places/activities where knives with blades over 5.5" in length can not be carried. Not a long list--it's roughly similar to the list of places where you can't carry a handgun with a permit--but it does exist and you should familiarize yourself with it before sallying forth with your zombie slicer.

In a world of modern technology (as in quality handguns) I find it hard to picture anything bigger than a wave spyderco or similar necessary as a defensive blade (which is a EDC backup for a gun) in an urban area, under normal circumstances. My "combat knife" in afg. was a SOG mini pentagon with a 3.63" blade. But to each his own, I guess.

In Arizona several years ago they classified knives as tools not weapons. Made it so local government could not impose more strict laws and no one really noticed. I think most local knife laws had nothing to do with violence and more about being something to arrest someone over if the police wanted to arrest him. Generally the laws were ignored by everyone until a reason was needed.

I'm a Hanzo man myself!

BUT, if any establishment has a 'no weapons sign' (NOT a 30.06 or 30.07) it is trespass to bring it in and they will ask you to leave. Not many people will want swords in their stores.

I wonder if this will be as big a "Non Event" as when we got the open carry law, either last year or year before. In my part of Texas you would see someone open carrying very seldom at first but I haven't seen anyone doing it for months now.

I was not aware in Ohio switchblade are legal until recently. The only illegal knives are ballistic knives. I think there are rules about concealed knives but not sure what they are

A little training would change your mind.
