I guess this is just a gloat but today I found a brand new Hornady Lock-n-Load AP at Cabelas bargain cave (they have been out of stock in the main store for weeks, go figure). Still sealed with the original factory tape, the box was damaged so that's why they cleared it out. Everything inside was perfect.

It was already $100 off, and after using some of my "points" that I have been collecting I paid about $210 cash for it. Very happy camper, now the Rockchucker is going to be used only for my "special" rifle loads.

So, any words of advice from the LnL experts out there? I have most of my die sets already, this will load mostly 9mm, 45ACP and .223. Should I be looking at a factory crimp die for station 5? Any help appreciated.

I wouldn't go out and buy a Hornady crimp die if you already have one: a few seconds on the bench grinder and a little cleaning up with a round ball stone in a die grinder will make your current crimp dies work just fine.

My current die set for 9mm is RCBS which taper crimps and seats the bullet with the same die. Are these going to work OK with the LnL? I have not had problems with the taper crimp from these on my RC press.

Hunter,

My 9mm dies are RCBS and they work just fine in my AP press. I have used RCBS, Hornady, and Lee pistol dies in my AP press without any issues

Thanks everyone. I'll let you know once I have setup the press and loaded my first rounds.

I've been very satisfied with my LNL AP. If you have a question or need replacement parts, their customer service is excellent.

Take your time setting it up and get to "know" the machine. It benefits from some "polishing" and tweaking here and there, but it is a very good set up.

Thanks for the encouragement

My son had been after me to buy a 550 but after reading all the threads here I had pretty much decided that a LnL was the way I wanted to go ... someday. However, despite putting a lot of reloading supplies into "inventory" lately, I don't really shoot all that much so I was going to stick with my good old RC single stage for the time being. The bargain on the LnL pushed me over and I am real happy with that. Now at least I can keep building inventory on components (and build a few rounds as well) without getting buried.
