It's really a Smart Loader---a copy of Lee, made in China, go Lyman---just like my melting pot that went to heck within a year and Lyman wouldn't do anything about it. It was a great co. at one time.

Are you sure? This is what shows on smartreloader's website - http://store.smartreloader-usa.com/PrimingTools.aspx
The Lyman hand primer looks much more substantial and ergonomic with square instead of round primer tray in comparison.

dbs, I stand corrected--I really don't know for sure now, just what I came across on the net at one time, however I do have the Lee Ergo prime and really like it, I am just leary of Lyman and some of thier products made in China.

Going to try the Lyman - selling the Lee Ergo

Floyster: My two cents on the Lee Ergo: I love my Lee Dies and I had the
original Lee Auto Hand Primer for 30 years and thousands of primers inserted.
Then after my handle broke I discovered Lee no longer makes replacement parts and I bought the Lee Ergo Primer. I now dread reloading! I have trouble each & every time I use it. I spend more time fiddling with it than priming! It is a great time consumption device. It is not what the original was. Having
emailed Lee several times they did send me, free of charge, both small and large tray covers. Didn't help. I know it has to be held at a 45 degree angle, I read
and retread the instructions every use. It does not work for me. I cannot understand why the covers do not lock down better and the intended purpose of the "elevator rod". Lee told me if I send it to them tell will inspect it and send me a new one if it is defective. I am not spending the money for postage and as soon as I can purchase the new Lyman hand primer, the Ergo will be listed on EBay. I am glad to hear of someone that it does work for. As I said, just my two cents.

Has anyone seen the new Lyman's hand primer? I was hoping to hear someone's experience with it as I haven't even seen it in stock anywhere or seen any reviews on it.

I still like the "old" Lee hand priming tool and have the newer XR but after "thumb" priming 1000 380Auto cases for wife's new pistol, I am open to hand priming tool that's operated with the hand and not the thumb. :D

I liked the Lee hand primer of yore. It has its downfalls, but it is a tool I became accustomed to.

I purchased the RCBS APS Hand Priming tool and the little strip loader, just in case. I have been very happy with this device. It is hard to say, but I think overall I like it better than the old Lee Auto Prime. One thing is for sure, I haven't cocked a primer yet, AND, IMO, it is safer than a bunch of loose primers rattling around in a plastic tray to have them each one properly orientated in a little plastic strip that advances with precision with each squeeze of the handle.

I like the "looks" of that Lyman but think it is so new that no one has it.

Have you used the RCBS (either one) I have the Universal and it works well. Not sure if it is considered a hand or thumb operated:) Takes a bit to get used to changing large to small but other than that it's fine.

I no longer use it, prime on the press and I still have the good old round LEE.
