Hi All,

I purchased an M&P 340 yesterday - great J-frame and I look forward to years of reliable ownership.

The attached pics show rub marks where the cylinder comes close to the frame (don't know the exact name of those areas) - the finish appears worn down to the metal. In opening and closing the cylinder it does not appear to be touching the frame so I don't know how the finish is worn away in these areas.

Thing is, I saw no less than five brand-new blued or matte j-frames of various flavors in my range today - they all had the same exact wear spots.

The gun is brand new and I have not shot it yet.

Should I bother calling Smith about it or just accept it as 'normal'?

Thanks,
Howard

I have the same revolver and noticed the same wear after only a few cylinders. Im told this is pretty much standard wear for the M&P 340 so I wouldnt worry. I now have a couple hundred rounds through mine and it seems to be no worse and the trigger is getting smoother.

I have noticed the same wear on all my titamium/aluminum revolvers.

Mine is not quite as pronounced as yours but I have wear at the same points.

I only have about 150 rounds through mine.

Guess I need to get it out more.

If others owners of the same model are having issues, I'm surprised the manufacturer has not addressed this design flaw. As an original owner, I'd contact S&W and inquire if they will warranty the problem. Actually if you have the time and inclination, trying calling S&W Customer Service and just ask them if they've had these issues on your latest J-frames. I've have been fortunate with them and has had good customer service from the manufacturer. A reason I have a soft spot to owning S&W products.

You will wear the sharp edges down to bear metal carrying it. Dont worry, you have selected an excellent CCW weapon. Those worn sharp edges will mean that you have recieved your moneys worth from the revolver in terms of personal protection. You can always have S&W refinish the revolver any time you like.

It's normal. Mine was like yours when I got it--and I have about 2500 rounds through it now--so the wear spots are bigger.

DAdams, you have not been doing your practice exercises. Get your replica reload ammo built and go to town.
