This is my first Smith & Wesson, so I have a few questions for other M&P owners out there. I got my M&P Shield 9mm in today, and I've got a couple of questions. I had a weird problem happen a couple of times during the intial cleaning and disassembly, but I haven't been able to re-create the same problem. I was in the process of taking the pistol apart, I had the slide locked in the open position, yellow sear deactivation pin down, and the take down lever was rotated 90*, and I pulled back on the slide to release the slide to remove it and I could not get the slide to release by pulling it back (it acted like a magazine was in it). I then continued to pull back and I pushed the slide release tab down and the slide then released. Now, this only happened a couple of times, and I have now taken it a lot, and it works great now. Could that have just been an issue with it needing to break in a little? Next question, the last coil on the recoil spring is a little funky. It is bent up right at the end where it was snipped off at. It seems to protrude a little, but it doesn't look like it would get caught on anything or even touch anything for that matter, but I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't cause any weird problems later on. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think your issue was due to the gun being new. I just broke down my Shield and my recoil spring looks exactly like yours. I have about 800 rounds through mine. Would be a lot more, but I work at a range and never get the time to shoot it.
Enjoy your new gun.

I only have about 400 rounds through my Shield and my recoil spring also looks like yours. When I first got it I though there was something wrong with it as it does look weird/crooked but its been 100%.

I have 1,600 jam free rds through my shield so far and it looks the same to me. Mine was tight when I first got it so unless you are getting malfunctions I wouldn't worry.

I just took my 40 Shield apart to see what the spring looked like. Same as in the pix. I can't see any way that could cause a problem. 400 + flawless rounds through this one so far. These guns are a bit "tight" when new. May need a little "break in".
