I can spend hours learning about the different firearms and the persons who build them. I have a MAK-90 milled receiver, a standard Mossberg 500a shotty, a simple dependable Sigma .40 SWF, a Bersa .380 Thunder Plus, a Five-Seven which I scored a 357 out of 360 at 5-10-15yd CFP Qual, and my new favorite Ruger SP101 5 shot stainless with a 2" barrel. Right now I am researching for a sniper rifle in the $1200-$1800 range, and possibly 1911 .45 ACP or one of those old west long barrel revolver, which I will take any helpful info on. I am also a collector of fossils, 1st edition Hardcovers from great writers, Insects, and Rock Concert hand pulled signed serigraph prints. Mostly from the Alternative bands however Avalon Ballroom first printings are fun too. Oh yeah I live in Las Vegas so I also have collected over 40 species of Cacti and Agave. My dream job would be Homicide Detective anywhere or even Crime Scene Investigator however I had a bad Motorcycle accident 2 years ago leaving my unable to run and I usually use a cane. I am an ACLU member and I donate to Earth Justice. I am also waiting for my first CFP permit in Nevada and I work at a Large Casino Las Vegas Blvd...

and at the moment these are my favorite Thomas Jefferson words:

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Here are some of my guns:

Welcome to THR!

My 5.7 was made within 50 pistols of yours on the production line. :)

Welcome! Good assortment, but since you're quoting Tom there I'd say you need more black powder in your life. I suspect you would enjoy the sweep of history in that style of shooting. The flintlocks and matchlocks ruled the Earth for five hundred years from the late medieval period through the early modern and into the industrial revolution. From Drake to Nelson, or Roanoke to the Corps of Discovery. Our modern centerfires are newbies.

Also, you appear to suffer from a lack of Mosin. I recommend a Finn 91 or 39 as cure.

old west long barrel revolver

Are you looking for replica or modern version? The Rugers are the best of the second group, and there are some very nice replicas around as well from Italy and stateside.

my new favorite Ruger SP101 5 shot stainless with a 2" barrel.

That's an old fav of mine as well. I "graduated" to the speed six though. It's like the SP, only with a K frame shape and an extra round.

Glad to have a new member! I think you'll fit in, Thomas Jefferson seems a tad popular here.

On another note, I like to think of sniper is a person who does, not an object. So do you mean like a WWII rifle commonly used by snipers? Or a modern rifle designed for long range applications.
(remember, most police snipers take shots from100yds or less when they do)

I generaly spend some time each winter about an hour south of you in AZ. I don't get up to LV very often as it can get to be a bit costly to intertain myself there.

Jefferson is my favorite of the founders of this nation and had a remarkable insight into government and it's tendancy to be self serving.

When I was a about 13 I built a .76 caliber Flintlock pistol and a .45 caliber flintlock rifle, with my dad (when he wasn't drunk and kicking the bejeesus out me and my brothers and my mom). never got to shoot the rifle and I had made about 100 balls for that beauty. I did get to shoot the pistol though and it would make you laugh at a Desert Eagle .50. Unfortunatly my childhood is pretty clouded with fear of my dad so the things he tried to expose me too were terrifying and at the snap of a finger I would be in the huddled in the corner fending of those ****ing boots he used to kick me with. At that time people did not call the police when there parents were beating them on the front lawn. Wouldnt have helped because the police were his drinking buddies although he never let them see what he did to us. Wow where the hell did that crap come from, anyway back to guns and history and stuff. It's know more that I'm older and a parent myself that I find myself spending 6 hours reading the gun laws of the world and searching for 6" Megaladon shark teeth fossils. LOL. I will say however I really enjoy authentic historical art and culture from around the world as time goes on will put up some pics of early weapons from Japan, Africa, and such. One should always speak of John and Abigail Adams too when speaking of the integrity of Mr. Jefferson. John is an awesome role model I wish these Men and Women that sacrificed their lives on principle and servitude could become our leaders today. I wrote a long blog on how our presidents cant even write their own frigging speeches these days when campaigns are run on money and propaganda and Fear as opposed to an honest attempt at principles of truth and integrity and something our politicians lack completely lack in a little CLASS. I know truth is relative but that relativity is what I call CLASS.

Thanks for your responses and and your time! and your CLASS.

Welcome to THR Suncult. Interesting collection and hobbies... perhaps a photo or two of some obscure rock w/ fossil with a nice firearm (or section thereof) and accompanying text notating said fossil would be educational yet also within forum guidelines when placed next to a firearm (or section thereof)... eh? (consider that a request should you find the time or desire to couple hobbies and educate those of us who know not of such things)

Principles of truth? Integrity? Our Politicians? Combining those words within one sentence?
Imagine my confusion... As for Jefferson (a truly wise man):
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.--T.J.
sigh Hmmmmm. I wonder what he meant by that? (but I do not wish to sidetrack away from firearms because that is a bad thing to do here... so...) Where did you take your CCW class in LV? By "sniper" rifle, is it safe to assume you mean a bolt action, optic sighted, longer range weapon for precision practice in the .30 caliber family, or are you looking for something more "semi-auto and about to be banned by the aforementioned political types (those blessed with honesty and integrity) assumed to be coming into power in all three branches of a federal gov't near you"?

What I mean by "sniper" and I do thank you for correcting this because I do not want to be a sniper in any army at this point in time, however yes a bolt action long range gun with a nice sight. I have been reading on some I know nothing about them as far what a good caliber is for long range target practice, but I am working on it and I am very attracted to FN Herstals bolts and I want something proven in the field combat and sport?
