Good morning,
I recently discovered this site as I was researching information on a rifle that I have had for 30 years sitting in my closet. I didn't think that it was much of a shooter until I discovered that it is a Model 94 Swedish Mauser Carbine 6.5x55 made in Oberndorf Germany in 1895. The disk on the stock indicates that it belonged to an artillery unit (has an A & 4 on it) I hadn't realized what an outstanding cartridge that the 6.5 is for hunting. I believe that the rifle was somewhat sporterized years ago as there is no wood surrounding the rear sight and the stock ends in what I believe is called a Schnabel tip. I live in northern Maine (it was -38 this morning) and would like to use this rifle on deer and coyote, but am relectant to put a scope on it. I would prefer to try to become proficient as possible with the iron sights including the adjustable rear leaf sight. Until last week, I didn't realize how popular the Swedes were and the high quality of their manufacture. Thank you for your site.

Hello everyone, I am new to the site. I also discovered the site by doing some research on a AR-15 that I am looking to buy. The site is great and I am looking forward to spending some time on here... Thank you Jon.

I guess it's time for me to say hello. I grew up hunting waterfowl in the Dakotas and whitetails in Northern Wisconsin in the 80's. After college & grad school, I tabled my interest in guns for a while while I got my career and family started, but a couple of years ago I picked up my first pistol in 15+ years and got my CCW permit, which completely jump started my interest again.

I went through several handguns before settling in on the favorites that I have today. I have an old Remington 34 bolt action .22 with tubular magazine from the mid-30's that my Dad gave me for my ~11th Christmas. It's in pretty great shape considering it's age and what a young kid puts a 22 through, and I just replaced the 12 ga Mossberg 500 that I used for our father/son trips to the Dakota's in the 80's that was stolen from me 13 years ago in graduate school.

Today my main thing is educating and responsibly arming my family. My wife and 21 year old step daughter received a S&W 642 Airweight and Taurus 850 hammerless Liteweight, respectively for Christmas, and they will be taking their CCW classes together soon. My 7 year old got a Red Ryder BB gun from Santa, and I even went ahead and bought him a Mossberg plinkster that will stay hidden in my closet until he's old, big and responsible enough to handle it in a few years.

Beyond that I want to give my boy the same incredible memories I had of father/son hunting trips, and am starting to look at Kansas, maybe Nebraska with a few friends now, so that we can start bringing our boys as they get old enough. Anybody who has any suggestions on specific counties, WIHA's, or even private land they might willing to share to help me out on this are MORE than welcome to shoot me a PM! :)

Anyway, here's a quick list of my current guns, soon to be joined by the 80's 12 Gauge Remington 1100 lefty model that my dad has promised me this spring, and the 20 gauge Remington Spartan SxS that I have promised myself when I can get a few extra $ put together:

Remington Model 34 .22LR - my first REAL gun, and it shoots great!
Kahr PM9mm & only 100 rds through the break in period, and on my hip every day
Stoeger Cougar 8000 - my first "real" handgun
Mossberg 500A 12 GA w/ 26 & 18.5" Barrels - Replacement for the sentimetally irreplaceable gun that some reprobate stole...
Remington 7400 .270 /w older Bushnell 3x9 Scope - Many whitetail dinners in the 80's thanks to this one
More to come!

So I figured, Great Site!; time to quit lurking, start posting, and I'm happy to be here! :)

This seems to be a great forum for those who love their freedom to own guns for hunting, target practice and defense. I have been collecting guns since I was twelve. Four safes later I am still going strong. Hope I continue to learn more about our American Heritage. Good to know there are so many passionate gun owners around. I have already received valuable information from the members. Glad to have the opportunity to be a member.

Thanks, Robbie

Hi all,

New to the site, been looking around here and there for a few weeks, seems like a lot of good people and even more good advise. I'm glad I stumbled across it.

I've been around guns my whole life (.22's and 12 gauges in the back yard), though I was never too interested until about a year and a half ago. I mostly like to hunt/harvest varmints with the .17 hmr. Getting into trap shooting a little bit, also like to shoot my .357 revolver at the range every now and again. That pretty well sums it up. Interested in buying a muzzleloader soon, as I plan on hunting deer next year with my father.

Hi Guys, I found this forum today while researching my new PTR-91 that has just arrived in the country, Oh Yeah - I'm from New Zealand.

I was in the Royal New Zealand Navy and am now retired and in the private sector. I have had a great interest in guns since I was a kid, but they are not as freely available here as in the USA.

I promote the sport of Pistol Shooting, MSSA and Service Rifle here as often as I can, however it is a pretty underground sport here as the media are very anti-gun:mad:

I have the following firearms:

Sig Mosqito .22 Silenced
Sig P226 9mm - my main pistol of choice for competing (sorry CCW not allowed here :cuss:
Taurus 24/7 Pro
Sig 550 Assault Rifle - Ex Swiss Army - beautiful weapon 9great hunting rifle)
PTR-91 Assault Rifle - currently with customs - should have it in 10 days:cool:
Magtech .22 Silenced Semi Auto Rifle - great for Rabits, possums, turkeys etc
Mossberg 500 - got the folding stock option - just cause I could:neener:
Escort Semi Auto Shotgun - This is my camo duck gun

I enjoy hunting and got a couple of dear last month, the PTR-91 will be good for the Pig Hunting I want to do:)

Look forward to chatting here and making use of the forum and the knowledge and hopefully making some good contacts.

Hello to All!

My family and I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on a map look North of Green Bay. I am a newbie to the world of guns. My wife and I recently took the NRA Person Protection class and are in process to get our CCW. Since we have taken the class we came into owning an unknown model S&W. This is primarily why I joined, for help identifying this gun. But, Looking around the forums, I will probably be joining in the discussions.

Hi from E. Ohio

Hi guys. I am new to reloading, just started several months ago. Long time shooter, hunter. I am into 243 Win, 270 Win, 22lr, 38spl/357 and will be loading for all the centerfire rounds.

I really enjoy deer hunting all of our seasons in Ohio, slug, archery, muzzleloader. I plan to practice with the 357 to take one next fall which would be my first handgun deer. I also hunt turkey and coyote here and hope to find some places in Ohio for feral pigs.

When not shooting in the spring and summer I can be found loafing or fishing with my wife and friends in our boat on the Ohio River or one of the small lakes near here!
Joe

Hey, All. I've learned a lot for the posts here and decided it was time to join. Thought I'd introduce myself. I started shooting .22s at summer camp when I was about 8 but my family was never very gun friendly. I recently got back into shooting and bought myself a Sig P225 and just today picked up my first AR which I've wanted since I was... well, born. Oh, I also have my grandfather's 10/22 which he gave me when I was 12 but I wasn't ever allowed to use it. Anyway, hello and thanks for the past advice.

Arming myself in preperation for the inevitable zombie uprising,

Doc

Hi all. I bought my first gun, a used Ruger 10/22 thirty years ago and still have it, although it's been tricked out to look like an MG42 now. Bagged my first deer with a Ruger Mini-14 and have shot ARs in competition. Collect & shoot mostly classic military guns and own several EBRs. Also handload and cast my own bullets. A CCW holder, NRA Life Member, and considering renewal of my MCRGO membership. I've been attending area gun shows since the 1980s and am active in my local club.

I contribute to webcomics from time to time. My character is a cartoon coyote as mascot and avatar.

Aloha! I'm new here (of course!) and I am mostly into modern tactical firearms. I am also an avid hunter with firearms, archery and knives (yes I did say KNIVES!). I look forward to participating in the above board discussions that I have viewed in these forums. Small doses of humor will also be involved.

new member

I've been reading the forum for a little while, signed up today.

I'm currently living on an island in the Caribbean where even the police don't carry sidearms. Unfortunately, the thugs do! I get out and shoot every time I'm back home in Texas. I've learned a lot already and look forward to learning more.

Thanks,

Jeff

New don't aim at me to quickly

Hi I'm new to this sight but I'm not new to guns by any means. I have had many revolvers and auto's over the yrs and I have chosen the middle of the road. I like the 41 mag between the 357 and the 44 and the 40 cal between the 9mm and the 45 acp both the 41 in rev. and the 40cal in auto give me all the knockdown and stop I feel I need.

Hey all, long time lurker here, first time poster. I'm an active duty Marine armorer stationed on Camp Lejeune, NC (well, for 4 more months that is). I'm originally from Sacramento, CA but had to get out of there for obvious reasons. I've been working on guns since I was 12 and have worked at a few gun shops. I'm a regular at the FAL Files, AK Files, HK Pro, and AR15.com (not so much anymore). Anyways, just thought I'd make this my first post!:D

Hi, used to collect guns 25 to 30 years ago. Sold them when I got married with my daughter on the way. Now getting back into it with a total 6 handguns and three long guns.

Another new guy. I've been lurking here for a month or so and recently registered. Life NRA member. Hunt mostly ducks & geese now. Have hunted other small game and deer in the past but not much lately. Great info on this site.

Straight shooter

I'm living in Utah, but I've been part of the 'gun culture' for a while now - since I was growing up in Central Arizona, and I just recently bought my first pistol (been into long guns for a while).

I got my Concealed Carry Permit a while ago - and got a Springfield XD sub-compact 40 for it.

Interested in marksmanship - haven't don't any hunting aside from varmint hunting.

Here to learn and observe, and contribute what I can.

I'm Davion. I live in Houston. I enjoy collecting and shooting modern black weapons.
I own everything from traditional O/U shotguns to AR15s and AR10s.
Have also developed a recent love affair w/ modern Hi-Cap .45 handguns...

Hi. I'm a new member also. Been looking on this site, off and on, for a while now. I am kinda "new" to most gun stuff. I have a Beretta 92FS for carry, a Ruger 10/22, a Mossberg .410, as well as a WASR-10 AK Clone. I am interested in learning more about Centerfire Bolt Action rifles.
