Hi,

I am new here. A computer techie in the UK.

We also have an 11-acre smallholding/farm ... a big space for this small cramped country!

Guns are effectively banned in the UK - but I have a SG licence because I need to keep Mr Fox from our chicken houses.

My workhorse is an 870 28" full choke 2.75" chamber firing 42 gr BB semi-magnums.

Just wanted to check in and say hello. About a year ago my wife came home from a pawn shop with a Glock, a gun she always dreamed of owning. She later got me a 1911 so I would stop calling her gun "ours". Since then I have purchased a 12 ga shotgun, and a S&W M&P 1522 (Mostly for my son to shoot.) I plan on getting another rifle, maybe a Mosen Nagant because of price. Being new to shooting, I would appreciate any suggestions on my next rifle purchase.

I am a gun enthusiast. I am new to the hunting circuit though. I have 3 boys and 1 girl ages 15-21 all of which are also interested in guns. My son manufactures Tannerite so we have a lot of fun target shooting. My fiance and I are steadily increasing our gun inventory. I'm always interested in learning new information about different guns.

I own a Mosen. If you have done any research at all on it you will see all the mods you can make to it as well. It is an awesome gun to own in its original form as well as buying a couple extra to make mods too. For the price... you can't beat it. We enjoy shooting it and it has superb accuracy.

Howdy folks,

I joined a few days ago although I've intermittently lurked her for a long time.

I grew up in Texas in the small game and deer hunting tradition. A deer hunting trip to west Texas was the annual 2 week vacation. I also hunted and fished in the San Jacinto River just east of Houston. My childhood was as close to "Huck Finn" as that of anybody I've ever met.

Hence, my introduction to weapons was hunting rifles and shotguns for both sport and subsistence. Both my grandfathers were almost unbelievably good marksmen and I inherited at least some of their skill.

Today, my interest is primarily in self defense. I am interested in revolvers - especially big bore - and pistols. However, I've always been a "value shopper". I do not lust after a finely tuned Kimber or other elitist snob weapons, in most cases preferring former eastern bloc (curio and relic) weapons over the latest fashionable gun or caliber. In other words, I'm a utilitarian and a traditionalist. To me a gun is a tool and not a piece of jewelry.

But that is just me. I'm not into sports either. But that doesn't mean I begrudge other people the joy they take from sports or finely crafted weapons. If it goes bang and hits where I point it that's good enough for me. I do have a warm fuzzy spot in my heart and soul for the 1911s however. But this doesn't prevent me from considering an XD-45.

Is that so wrong?

Best to all.

Vernon

I'm a Vet, like both long guns and handguns. Enjoy shooting but not a hunter anymore. Been trying to learn reloading for the handgun and getting decent, meaning everything goes bang and a bullet flies out of the muzzle.

Hi Everyone, Like a few of you I too was checking out this site via a pal in Calif. I am owner of Total Marksman Arizona Division and A Wild Wind Leather. I am an avid shooter and have several different firearms. My company is teaching folks firearm safety and self reliance because there are just too many people out there that have guns and don't have a clue on safe handling. I have been involved with Cowboy Action Shooting and have the pleasure of working with the Boy Scouts in firearm safety and merit badges. It is my pleasure to meet you and learn more about firearm styles and techniques. I am one that believes we can never know everything and we can always learn something. Thanks for your site and your input. Arizona Rose

intro

I am older than dirt. I have been a hobby gunsmith for ever, and currently having a lot of fun dinking with the large amount of dirt-cheap Mosins that appeared over the years. But, my real love is the mauser system, and I am a little bit more hesitant to drill holes into them. I only have a couple, and they are prized. Four years in the Navy in the 70's as a corpsman, most with the Fleet Marines who gave me my love of shooting. Now only shoot paper from the bench with the aim of trying to make the groups as small as I can, as far a way as I can. Have owned more guns than I can remember, but my collection has always been small. After shooting the gun a while, learning all about it, and becoming adept at taking the down, and putting them back together, I would sell them to get the next interesting gun. I have even had a black powder era. I reload for whatever I am currently shooting, except for the 7.62x54r, there is still buckets full of cheap stuff in that cal.

hi all. Like someone said above I joined a little while back but this is my first post. I grew up on a farm in a town called clinton pa. I have been around guns all my life and have quite a few myself. I think my favorite is either my kimber pro cdp II or my s&w 500 mag.
I recently got into reloading and cant wait to learn from all you guys.

stay safe,
Lineman

Hi, my name is Roger aka Tangent. I've been a member for a few months and have been lurking and finding great information.
I am currently living in Texas, moving to Missouri in a few months.
Current inventory: Ruger 95D 9mm, S&W .38 spcl, Taurus PT24/7 G2 .40 Cal, Ruger 10/22, Remington 870 12 gauge, Winchester 94 .30-30, Ruger MKII M77 .30-06.
I've been shooting since I was a kid, learned how to handle a rifle in the Young Marines when I was ten. I load my own ammo for all my guns/rifles except shotgun & 22. It's a good hobby and keeps me out of trouble.

Hello everyone. I've been lurking around here and a few other gun sites for quite some time adament on joining only one, and you guys seem to have to perfect mix of just about every topic. Everyone seems polite and for the most part very knowledgeable. I plan on picking some brains for some good info. :)

Greetings!

I've been aware of this board for a while (it gets quoted in MANY other places - ALWAYS a good sign! :D), but yesterday finally seemed the day to join.

I've been active on a number of other boards; if you recognized me there, I'm probably the SAME guy. :p I know a little bit, about a lotta things - the very definition of "dangerous" . Here's hoping I can learn a little bit more here!

Hey, Im Billy

Hi Guys! I have been reading some of the posts from this forum for years. I finally decided to join.

I grew up in rural south Louisiana and didn't know anyone who didn't have a gun. On the farm, a gun was just another tool. I never could figure out why anyone would want to take one of my tools. I wish they would take my shovel, that thing is a real pain.:) I have been introducing people to handloading for years. I have a slight preference for rifles, but use handguns and shotguns. The thing I like most is taking people, who have never shot because they are from countries that don't allow firearms,:neener: out shooting. They usually like to take pics to send home to their friends. (I work for an international company so I get to know these guys pretty well before they get an invite to the range).

I have enjoyed the extensive knowledge base and now I hope to add my 2 cents.

Hello everyone. I guess I'll say just a few short things about myself for now. My name is Paul, I am 27, married with 2 daughters. I am located in NYC, born and raised. I am a firefighter here. I have recently taken an interest in hiking/camping/hunting and that sort of thing. I hope to become proficient with several types of guns one day. I am as much as a beginner with firearms as you can be but I hope to learn a lot from this site.
