Been lurking in the forums for a couple years when I get the chance, finally decided to join.
Grew up in a family that didn't have much use for guns. In fact, every toy gun that I had growing up was given to us by my uncles. Once they found out that my dad had prohibited them, they gave them to us boys for every birthday for a couple years.
Oddly enough, my father is a huge history buff, especially military history.
Never picked up an actual firearm until after I got married when my father-in-law took me with the extended family.
Time, young kids, and a lack of money keep me from shooting much, but I love learning about it, and you guys have proven to be entertaining and knowledgeable!

:eek:new man MAC-V
I'm a retired LE, military 1969-1970, I'm a victim of agent orange but I can still go to the range occasionally. I love the M-14, SKS, AK47, all CZ handguns, S&W revolvers in model 10's and 36's. I own about 8 Glocks but like to touch and hold any and all makes of pistols and revolvers. If I listed all my guns I own it would sound vain so I'll just say that GOD has allowed me to have enough retirement money to enjoy the best hobby in the world....collecting guns. I have already read some threads and have enjoyed every minute of info and advice. Looking forward to reading more. I do have a question today, the Bulgarian Makarov at SOG firearms for 329.00 is enticing but I don't know anything about Makarovs.

Thanks for letting me join. I've been hunting and fishing since I was a kid. I was born 1968. I have relatives that battled in all the wars up to Korean. My Grandma became a daughter of the revolutionary before she died. I think that was pretty cool and I should do that too. She did all the hard paperwork so for me I just tie into her. My Grandaddy died and never did like my Grandma but our ancestry fought back on both sides.
I just want to thank all the vets who are on this site who fought for our country. Thank you, with all of my being.
I met a man 2 years ago at a dodge dealership in Oregon. He was in the 101 Air born. A machine gunner. Hit at Omaha fought in Normandy. I talked with him for hours, my family met him and my kids shook his hand. we all thanked him. He was 94 years old. Heavy smoker and drinker but quit at age 60 he said. Do they make them like that anymore? He was a band of brothers. His name is Clifford Brooks, he was in the (f) division. Thank you Veterans! I love you all!! Almost forgot, I do have gun questions and that's about it. I'm here to learn not give advice, not yet anyway. Thanks!

Think you have problems. I live on a small Carib island that is half French & half Dutch. Guns verboden on the Dutch side & my favourite place to shoot is less than 100 m from the French airport runway. LOL! Luckily, the gendarmes go in the opposite direction from gunfire! LOL!!

I'm originally from AL, so my 2nd language is also English! 1st is Alabamese. LOL1 I live in Dutch territory & have a business in French territory. All my associates decided it was easier to learn English that try to interpret my versions of Dutch & French. LOL!! Bon chance.

New guy

Hey all,

I'm new to the forum and appreciate the opportunity to learn from you and joke around with you. The older I get, the more guns I seem to acquire. I joined to learn from some self professed pros, and make some friends with like minded individuals who aren't scared of the tools that protect our lives and liberties. Right now I'm married with no children, so I can afford to buy toys. I support our troops, our police and our farmers. I also cannot deny my redneck, as it is very prominent while viewing me from behind. I enjoy moderate paced walks on the beach, my steak medium rare, and my guns lubed with ammunition close by. Hopefully my smartass comments and dry humor will be understood and accepted.

Kentucky has a beach?
Atlantic or Pacific? (I have such poor map memory. :uhoh: )

Welcome, LazyGunner. Smartass comments and dry humor are not always understood and accepted by the mods here -- I speak from experience of infractions (and I understand and support their actions, given the mission of this forum) -- so I recommend dialing those back and contributing with reasoned intelligence until after you're reached 15k posts. Then, you can loosen up a bit more ...

But I will understand and accept (and appreciate) your dry humor. ;)

Im back

Hello everyone, I used to visit this forum but haven't made a post since 2012. I am from western NC and have grown up around firearms. I collect old High Standard .22's and am always searching for the next one. Hamden and New Haven only, please. I predator hunt, handload, compete a little (Bullseye), I enjoy all types of guns = everything from lever guns to AR's I think that some of the cookie-cutter,lawyer triggered, ect new stuff manufactured today is crap compared to stuff from the 80's and further back. I feel pretty sure that I'm not alone on that one. Anyway, hope to speak with many of you in the future. Varmintier has to finish HoneyDew list, later everyone.

newbie glad to be here

i have been a gun enthusiast since i was 10 for 44 years now. i still have the first handgun i ever bought when i turned 18 a model 10 smith so yes i just love guns i am looking forward to the discussions here thanks coggy

I am new to this forum so am pretty awkward at navigating in it. I do not belong to any others. I hope this is the right "slot" to make a submittal to. Am 50 and am very much into varminting. Live in montana and do 80% of my shooting at critters here...and i must say mt is a great state to do that in.
Shoot 1000's of rounds yearly. Primarily shoot bolt action and ruger 1's, most are highly customized. They must shoot accurate first however and half inch at/100 is the minimum goal...consistently and not just one grp outof five. Shoot a lot of .17 and .20 with a fair amount in .22 ctrfire. I don't shoot .22rimfire any more. Have all the larger cals also however dont do high volume with them.
Am old school and like the early sako, mini mauser, #1,s and any early all steel rifle...cant wrap my head around alloy in my rifles.
Looking for information/history regarding old l61r etc sako bolt vintage guns and a few other mfg. Of earlier vintage...not into ruger american level quality or the lack of. Like to hear from our members. I am deep into the .17 vha improved based on the 4.6x30...we call it the .17hk....fabulous for the ground squirrels....fabulous.

Hello all,
I belong to a number of forums and have viewed topics on this one many times, particularly when I had a question or was researching a subject. It seemed like a good time to become a member.

I shoot more clay targets than anything else but I like handguns and rifles as well. Reloading is also a hobby that I enjoy.

I've been a lurker here for a while. Decided to make it official. THR has been an excellent source of information for me in the past. I hope to be able to contribute in the future.

another newb - this one from VT

Hello, all!!

Just a quick note to say thanks for allowing me to join your community. Glad to see the humorous & the serious discussions on here.

Mostly will be reading but, from time to time, might jump in if I have anything meaningful & worthwhile that I could contribute to your conversations.

Glad to be here!! All the best to everyone! :)

Hello THR!
Greetings from "flyover country" in western South Dakota. Many of you may have actually been here before, on two wheels. With low population density and rural mindset this is a relatively gun and freedom friendly area.
Just to introduce myself, I'm in my 50's, not a South Dakota native, I landed here in my early 40's after leaving the army. I've been shooting informally all my life but never in competition. Currently, I mostly enjoy handgun shooting and love both revolvers and semi's but also have and shoot semi, bolt, and lever rifles. I do reload for both handguns and rifles but do not consider myself expert at it.
I joined THR to try to link up with other freedom loving, self reliant individuals to find more ways of preserving what is left of "freedom" in the USA and try to roll back the tide of what I consider to be "neo-totalitarianism" that seems to be rapidly destroying this once great nation. The upcoming presidential election will have potentially frightful repercussions for many reasons but especially for rkba and I feel the need to be more involved.
Hope all of you have a great day and get out and do some shooting! :)

New to THR, old hat to shooting

Hey all,

I just found this forum so had to join, I am a retired Marine MSgt (0369/Infantry). I have been shooting since I was 16 and I still have that .22 Glenfield Model 60 rifle, I shot on the Marine Corps Rifle and Pistol Team going Distinguished with the rifle back in 1987. My favorite new toy is a Noreen BN-36 (AR frame 30-06), and I am a firm believer in the Constitution of the United States of America, and all Amendments thereto pertaining.

Another newbie to the group

Hello all from NW Ohio...
Found the page while doing a search and a topic came up for exactly what I was looking for on here. Checked it out and decided this is a great place to learn a lot!
As for me, work full time as an EMT, and also run as a Firefighter/EMT with my local Department as well. Firearm wise, as a family we have a little bit of everything...S&W Shield 9mm for EDC, Beretta 96D, Mosin-Nagant 91/30, Winchester SXP 12ga for hunting, my grandpas Wards Western Field 20ga, and my great grandpas 1908 Colt .380 in original Colt box and all original paperwork. Wife carries a S&W Model 60 .38spcl, also has a SAR Arms/EAA 9mm. Daughter shoots a Remington 870 20ga youth, and each of the boys have their .22's, one being a Mossberg 712 Plinkster, and one Crickett single shot.
Probably won't post too much, Ill probably do more looking and reading than submitting. Thanks to all in advance!

Hey, I'm new to the forum. I was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and have been a machinist for 30 years in the New Orleans area. I've always owned/been interested in guns and for the last 6 months I've been attending gunsmithing school.

Hey! I'm a new guy on "The Highroad." I've been shooting for 59 years, reloading since 1966. I am retired from the Army (1968-1988), leaving Fort Bragg for more dangerous and exciting adventures as a civilian. "Been there and done that," and am trying to slow down a bit.

I've divested myself of most of my antique firearms and am concentrating on those which will provide more safety and security, i.e. handguns of respectable caliber (i.e., .45) and rifles in the .30 class. I've got a Mini-14 because I don't like plastic, and a "Tommy Gun" because it is heavy and fun. There's an M1A because I carried an M-14 in Vietnam. Several shotguns, strictly utilitarian - slugs (rifled 12-gauge) and buckshot (pump). I've shot too much black powder and have cut back on that a lot.

I believe that Concealed Carry is a civic duty, along with voting. I believe that my children and grandchildren are my greatest treasures. I believe that God is on his Throne in Heaven and that Jesus is returning soon.

I again work on Fort Bragg at my "Jesus Job" with wounded warrior families. That's about it!

Hello from a new member

Greetings,
I just registered for this forum, although I have been reading it for some time. I registered because this seems like a broad and well informed, helpful, and nicely tempered group. I hope to learn a lot here and hope to be able to contribute as well. I live in the late great golden state, California, not exactly a gun enthusiast's paradise. I was an active range shooter back in the 1980's, owning a few guns, ranging from a 1911 pistol to a .50 black powder rifle, and I really enjoyed the shooting sport. Somehow I fell out of it, a few kids, a few wives, career changes, etc. Now I find myself with no guns, but a hankering to get back into shooting. I will probably be purchasing a 9mm pistol soon to restart the hobby and see where it goes from there.
Anyway, thanks for the forum.
Best regards,
Cliff
