Hi all. Bear with me, I'm new to forums in general. I can be a little wordy sometimes, but when it comes to guns, which are a passion of mine, i sometimes don't know when to shut up. i 've been shooting, collecting, and reloading for over thirty years. i do some hunting, but never as much as i would like to. i own some antiques, pistols of all types, a few long guns, and some military surplus.
i do some minor gun work, but only on my own guns. " A man has to know his limitations". right now i'm on the tail end of my scout rifle project. everything is done. i'm just waiting for the barrel to come back from my gunsmith. i cut the barrel down to 18 inches. that i could do. the crown i didn't want to mess up, so i jobbed it out.
i've been a history buff all my life, particularly when it comes to the american civil war. plus my father a sargeant in the army rangers in WWII, and brought quite a few " items" back with him. so from a very young age i was exposed to, and taught, how to safely, and correctly handle firearms. And my father taught me quite a few other "things" young boys with explosive imaginations probably shouldn't know.
i guess i learned ok......i'm still here, with all my fingers, and toes. i can't say that about my hair, but that would belong to another forum.
i'm looking forward to learning some new things, and maybe passing on some things that i have learned.

I've finally decided to introduce myself and be an active participant on THR. First off, I'd also like to compliment the staff/moderators on a great site! It's extremely refreshing to gain immense amounts of freebie information on all things firearm related, and more importantly see that there are people who are just as absorbed in the world of firearms as myself (and prove to myself that I'm fairly normal) :D Also want to thank my buddy watson0625 for recommending this site to me a year or so ago. I've always enjoyed firearms ever since my Dad showed me how to hit a pop can off the fence post on our farm in Southern Minn. I had a long hiatus from firearms (I lived in the city with very few places to shoot and only had a .22) until I went to college and purchased a Remington 597 to help blow off steam after class. My small collection has only gotten bigger over the years depending on my interests and available funds. :) Happy shooting to all, here's to many more years visiting The High Road.

Hi everyone,great site, I'm a anolog guy trying to live in a digital world, I shoot and reload 300h&h mag,45acp and my baby 57 model 70 in 06. I live in so.ca. and am going to start shooting in Riverside county when the heat lets up a little, funny the heat didn't bother me in my 20's but that was a long time ago, I'm a former U.S. Marine and have been shooting all my life and look forward to talkin with you. SoCal native and avid rimfire fan (my first gun was a Ruger 10/22, received as a Christmas present when I was 12-years old). My favorite hobby is home gunsmithing and have been working on the development of a new 10/22 magnum receiver. I won't post a link to my web site but you can find it in my profile if you care to look.

My other passion is hunting. I have a couple Mauser actions that I'm planning on building into a matching pair of deer and elk rifles: .257 Poberts and .338-06 AI.

Hope to get acquainted with everyone better in the near future.

im new to posting on this site but have gone through the archives some and this looks like a great site. I live in waco tx and am a full time paramedic. I also work with the local S.W.A.T. team as a tactical medic. My firearm collection is growing slowly but surely and now includes 15 firearms in various calibers and models. My favorite is my Ruger P94 in .40, which is also my CCW. I hope i can learn/share a lot on yhis site.

New to this forum - it looks great.

I like large caliber handguns (.357 and up) and rifles. I reload everything I shoot except .22's (need this little caliber for plinking and such) and I do some black powder shooting but hate the mess.

Not really new but never introduced my self. Been shooting most all my life-70+. Retired from the Marine Corps in '73 and Civil Service in '94. We now live in Bosque Co, Tx on a place big enough to hunt in season or shoot any time I want. I load for 45-120 to 380. Enjoy them all. Try to shoot a little every day.

hello everyone! i saw this site when i was looking up some technical info on my .45s and liked what i saw

i am 22, married with dog lol... i have 6 fire-arms... for now,
i am active duty Air Force as an a-10 crewchief, been in for a little over 3 years...

i love my guns and will gladly die defending mine, or anyone else's right to possess one.

Hello, My names Jon. I'm 18 years old from Berwyn, Illinois. (Suburb just sw of Chicago). I grew up shooting .22's and shotguns of all sorts at Fox River Valley gun range and up in Phillips and Parkfalls, Wisconsin. I've hunted quail and duck before however this year will be my first year hunting big game. Being in the city its hard to find place to shoot, so besides my trips up to wisconsin/out to south dakota, I spend alot of my time focusing around cars, sports, women, and computers.

Hello, all. I'm JC from Saint Louis. I stumbled upon thehighroad.org while doing research for my first gun purchase, and I must say, this is one hell of a site. I've learned more in two nights of browsing than I had in my last 20 years. Guns were a no-no in my house growing up, so my experience with firearms was very limited until I became friends with some country boys in high school. When they introduced me to the S&W .357mag, the Remington 1100, Walther PP, and Ruger 22LR - well, I don't think I've ever had so much fun. They taught me gun safety, hunting techniques, reloading etc, but after high school it was off to college, and other things held my interest. Mainly golf. Lots of golf.

A few months ago, one of those high school friends died unexpectedly, and of course I began reminiscing about hunting with the 1100 and plinking with the Smith & Wesson. Some of my best memories from high school were of shooting at the farm down in Prarie Du Rocher, Illinois, and it's a shame I didn't have more time, opportunity, and cash over the years to be more involved with hunting and shooting.

Anyway, it's really given me the itch to shoot again. In honor of Mikey D., I'm searching for my first handgun - a Smith & Wesson .357mag. I couldn't remember the model that we used to shoot, but after combing through this forum, I'm now positive it was the 686, with a 6in barrel and the sauve-looking diamond-cut wood grips. Without this forum, that gun would have been just another lost memory. Now I'm on a mission to find one. It's my Holy Grail.

Thanks to everyone for the great information. I look forward to talking with and learning from all of you. I've been out of the loop for quite a while, and I have some catching up to do.

I am 21 years old, and have my first kid on the way. I am currently looking for my first service pistol for armed security. I'm not too active on posting, though I am a reader.
 
I've been registered for a while, but I'm still a noob, really. I'm into the political aspect of guns, though I'm planning on having quite an arsenal because, well, I'm already addicted to buying guns. ;-)

I'm 18, and own an AK-47...cheap Romanian one, but hey, it was all I could afford. I live in rural Arkansas, and don't really care for the city or its people. No offense to those who live in the city. ;-)

I'm putting together a lot of papers and essays on gun control to create a well-researched source for people who are researching the issue. You can find it at www.EndGunControl.org.

I just joined 8/08/07 checking out guns ran across this web page it seems to have the info I will be looking for. I have been trading (selling couple ) Winchester Model 70's pre 64 one .300 H&H magnum and a .375 custom Model 70 by Giffth & Howe, for big game. I might add these are not my guns but a friend of mine who is getting divorced, you know the story. I think I will have another pre 64 Model 70 .300 H&H magnum as my brother-in-law is too old to hunt anymore.

A sad job I just had was to sell a model 625 Smith&Wesson .45 - Ruger bull barrel .22 with aimpoint sight- 30-30 model 94 Winchester and a model 1300 Winchester pump shot gun as her husband passed away and she wanted the guns out of the HOUSE and all the shells.

I only hunt ducks/geese getting too old and can't see, but my son is into hunting as well as my grandson. He mainly is a bow hunter and this year Elk hunting he had a cougar jump on a log three feet from him as he went for his side arm (bow hunters are now allowed to carry for that reason) the big cat looked at him and jumped off the log and took off, later as they were gutting out the Elk it came back through camp. So I became involved looking for a larger side arm for him, ended up with the above .45 Smith.

I still have several guns but they will all go to my son and grandson, I know he will respect them and use them as a hunter should.

I am a low budget collector or any firarm i can afford. I am a fairly experienced home gunsmith, mainly because i have an obsession with fixing things that aren't broke. I really enjoy gun refinishing, wether it be camo jobs or factory refinishing. I would love to swap pics or info with anyone interested.
