I am new to this board, have made a few posts & found the intro yourself thread . . so I thought I would.

I use the screen-name "Macx" on pretty much every message board from motorcycles to religion, with guns in between. I added 45LC+P because that is what I am carrying in the revolver these days . . . Chose the Alaskan as I charted out the variations in store bought cartridge and found I could shoot anything from a 200 Grain cowboy load @ 650 fps 295 ft lbs. (darn near as low as my beloved Makarov's 95 Grain JHP @ 1000 fps 211 ft lbs.) to 260 Grain JHP @ 1800 fps & 1870 ft. lbs. . . . so it was that span that found my happy medium in the .45LC+P, like GoldieLocks said, "it's just right". I should say a bit more about Macx. I am mr. Mac jr ... the j & r are contracted in the form of an x . .. it has nothing to do with computer programing or the rock band I have recently discovered uses my screen name.

Big Dogs, Loud guns, Fast Motorcycles, and Old Books are my favorite topics.

I am new to the forums. I have been looking around for a couple of days and am blown away by the intellect and knowledge you all share with each other.

I am excited about learning more.

I have been married for almost fourteen years and have two children (12yo girl and 10 yo boy). Four dogs (three labs and a pomeranian). That's the family.

Well, the name (ARK9mm) doesn't take much to figure out. I shoot a 9mm and live in Arkansas. I, unlike most of what I've read, only own one pistol at this time. I bought it for concealed carry purpose. I own a small security alarm company here and wanted it for my personal and family safety.

There have been a few remote cases of security company owners being taken to their customers places and forced to disarm the security system.

Anyway, any more questions just ask.
 
Hello, my name is The Weasel Squeezer and I'm a Glockaholic. But I cheat on my Glocks with Berettas, Smiths, Mossbergs, and a couple of foreign AK hotties.

I attended an after school program in Vietnam, then got married, had a daughter, got divorced, and had a grandson. Now I'm plotting retirement and my final career as a Bluesman. If I'm wearing pants I got a gun on too.
I lurk a lot and post a little. Most people don't care for me and I try to return the favor.
But I hope WE can work it out.:)

It has been a most enlightening experience reading THR. I am very impressed with the vast experience, knowledge, and candor I have come across in my reading. Dont post much, too much reading to catch up on. I hail from Tennessee. Received my first rifle when I was twelve, a .22LR Marlin bolt action DU special, from my grandfather, who instiled a deep love for hunting and all things gun. Did some time with the Army National Guard. Now I am finishing out my undergrad education and patiently waiting on my concealed weapons permit to arrive in the mail. I own a SA XD .40, a Bushmaster M4 wannabe, that trusty .22, and a 12 ga shotgun that I am ashamed to say I dont know what make or model...
I appreciate all of the wisdom and experience shared here and look forward to learning much more.

Hello All

I've been reading the threads for awhile now, thought I would say hello :D.
I've only recently become interested in RKBA & politics in general. Reason being as a younger person I've always considered the ways of the world set in stone by adults & authority figures of sorts thus my opinion(s) were of little worth or meaning.

Now considering myself an adult I see the world, politicians, government as being comprised of my peers. I figure why should I let my peers alone decide the fate of my country, direction of my government, and write the laws that affect me.

THR has been an asset to this new Active Citizen in learning about RKBA, society, and government in general. Thank you all for the HighRoad in sharing opinions and information - I look forward to continuing the dialog with all of you in the future.

My name is Remo and i am new to the forum. I love to bird hunt so therefore i am into the shotgun scene, but lately I've been more into the pistols. I just bought a S.A. 40 cal. and I love it. I've been looking at some beginner 1911's so thats why i joined the site. i could use some input or advise.

I'm Robert, you can call me Bob or Bobby, whatever. I'm originally from Pennsylvania but moved to California for work. Yes, the gun laws here suck.

I'm an avid shooter and burgeoning collector and a member of SASS, though I have not yet competed. Currently the only gun I have with me in CA is a Glock 26, but soon it shall be joined with 2 Ruger Vaqueros, a Stoeger Coach, a Mossberg 500, and a Uberti Goldenboy. Soon after, a venerable 1911 in .45.

Love to shoot and talk politics. So again, Hi.
 
I'm a middle-aged software engineer in Colorado. Married, two kids in college and one in high school. I'm a rarity, a fairly liberal Democrat who intends to become a gun owner. I've always been interested in shooting, but just recently decided to do something about it. I'm signed up for an NRA Basic Pistol course in a couple weeks and am planning to buy a .22LR pistol for target shooting, then maybe a 9mm and a revolver. Trap and skeet shooting also look like fun. Mostly I'm here to learn.

'hatte here. Collector, forester, plant geek, amateur historian, music nut, chatterbox.

My three favorite firearms in my collection: craptastic sawed-off Ithaca 37 originally owned by a now-deceased friend; Galil ARM in .308; my dad's old Winchester 62A, through which I think I have finally shot more rounds than he has. There are others that I love but those are pretty much the jewels.
 
Not New, just been gone awhile

I'm Mike here in Seattle. I registered here a ways back. Got bored with the same ole same ole I was finding and just quit visiting.

The board I've been at most lately is down for a bit so I thought, Hey THR!.

My Firearms collection has gone up and down a lot over the years. Right now it's my Browning Hi-Power, my prized Marlin 1895 LTD III, very finely tuned & tricked out. Thx to the folks at Wild West Guns in Anchorage. And I have the pleasure of owning Grandpas WW II era Savage 219 30-30/20GA.

I got my CPL mainly due to trouble with feral dogs on one particular hike but I firmly support carry for self defense on a dialy basis.

After years of bus passes and bikes I bought myself a jeep this spring and have returned to hunting, deer for now till I get a bigger fridge:D

I look forward to cruising around and seeing what's new.

Hi I am a retired gun dealer with interest in older guns (long and short). I like to tinker. I'm having a problem with a basket case browning auto 5. Got it totally disassemble in a plastic bag. It noe looks good but does not eject rounds
 
I‘m living in the south-west of Germany close to the low-mountain range which is called „Pfälzer Wald“ . My wife and I have begun shooting with a recurve bow in 1995 on my 40th birthday. Two years later, a friend has aroused our interest for pistol target shooting. Today we practice target shooting with a 629 and 627 from S&W, a SIG 210 in 9mm and a Les Baer in .45 ACP. Sometimes we shoot on the 50m range a Winchester 73, on the 100m range a C. Sharps model 1875 and on the 100m and 300m range a swedish mauser. Next year I’m going to start with CAS. Some weeks ago I got my USFA Colts in .45. It took about 2 years with all the authorizations and the shipping but the both PreWar are amazing. For CAS I have also bought a replica of a Colt, Mod.1878 Coach Gun. I have started in this forum with a question concerning reloading. I practice reloading since 8 years and it is a great one for me.

Shooting in Germany is not socially desirable. Compared to the USA it is hard to get the authorization to buy guns for hunting or target shooting. It is nearly impossible to get the autorization for self defence in public by firearms. It is sad to have politicans who deny the right of ordinary people to keep and bear arms. But that is another subject.

Hello there. I'm not exactly new to The High Road. I've been lurking in the shadows for about a month now. I actually "stumbled" onto THR while researching my first firearm purchase, which I'm very happy to say ended up being a Smith & Wesson M&P .40sw (only 55 rounds through it so far, but incredibly happy with it :D) From what I've seen so far, the discussions here can get somewhat (somewhat may be an understatement) heated, but all have been quite insightful. I look forward to the many future ideas, discussions, and even disagreements (mainly civil, I hope).

I am a new member and I heard about this place from Guntalk radio show. I am hoping to find out some answers to my questions so I don't have to try to re-invent the wheel and spend a lot of money learning from my mistakes. I would much rather learn from other's mistakes.
My first question is regarding concealed carry guns. I live in the south and it gets real hot in the summer. I sweat a lot and I was curious what are peoples opinions on the best finish for my situation. I am considering a kahr cw9. Thanks in advance for any helpful hints on finish or holsters.
 
Hi CHB, welcome to the forum.

IMO a hard chrome finish is best for high heat and humidity in regards to a handgun. Problem is, it also tends to be rather noticeable if the firearm is accidentally revealed. Thus, I use a darker Teflon finish on my carry guns. I live and carry in Louisiana.

Hi all, I'm Papajohn, and I had the name long before the Pizza Guy copied it. I'm equally into both rifles and handguns, my interests tend to wander around a bit. I've had hundreds of guns over 30 years, bolt actions, lever-rifles, single-shots, mil-surp, and still keep a passel of 22's around. I consider myself a revolver fan at heart, but also enjoy shooting the autos I own. I'm not much of a shotgunner, but own a couple anyway, as they have their uses, too. Heck, even BB guns are fun, and I like playing with my blowgun, too!

As the name implies, I'm the father of four kids, 15 up to 25. All are passable shots with rifle and pistol, and some are pretty darn good, but not as good as the Old Man (yet!). My youngest boy (15) is the most like me, and any time he gets to spend shooting my AR-15 at 200 yards is the best time he can have. He's already got the warrior's mentality, and wants to be a Marine in a few years. He'd make a good one.

I spent a half-dozen years in radio, did everything you can do there, announcing, music, news, sports, call-in talk shows, all of it. I went from there to a police dispatching job (captive audience!), then eventually onto the street. Most of my duties involved firearms training and maintenance, and I trained a lot of civilians too, mostly women. After 15 years I quit, too many idiot administrators, too much PC garbage, now I work Corporate Security, still wear a badge and gun, still looking for Bad Guys. Found a few, too!

I've been a reloader for 25+ years, still load for a dozen calibers, rifle and pistol. I enjoy hobby gunsmithing, but I'm certainly NOT a craftsman. I love the quest for accuracy, especially in Marlin leverguns, and have managed to concoct some impressive loads over the years. Favorite calibers include 35 Remington, 30-30, .223, 38, and 45ACP, but I love them all. I'm limited to a 38 Special on duty by local ordinance, but in five years I've fired about 70,000 practice rounds through my Model 10, the older you get the harder it is to stay proficient, and I have to work at it. I carry concealed ALL the time off duty, live in a rough part of town, and look like an easy target. Let the bad guys think that.......I can't box, but I can shoot! :cool:

I'd heard about this forum for quite awhile, and lurked a bit but finally decided to join up, and join in. I try not to offend anyone, but I'm pretty opinionated, and kinda vocal about it. Just think of me as a curmudgeonly old poop, and we'll go from there!

I found this forum while searching for ways to carry while riding my bicycle, believe it or not. I'm carless in Memphis by choice-- But 2 of my friends have been mugged while commuting on bikes to work by crackhead types. I have a glock 19 now and my permit application is being processed.

What a long, strange trip its been. I grew up on Army bases, went to military school, and then was registered for the Viet Nam draft. Nixon halted the draft before they got to my number, so push never came to shove. Spent 7 years active duty Army later. Russian linguist, not much of a grunt. Fired my M-16 once or twice a year.

My wife and I got interested in self defense after looking at the global social and economic situation-- it doesn't seem to be getting better and nicer-- it is getting meaner and tougher, and we think the USA will continue to decline into greater and greater danger for all sorts of reasons.

So we are going to do our part by taking care of ourselves-- we don't trust Uncle Sam to do it for us anymore, instead we suspect Uncle Sam is trying to do it to us.

Joined JPFO-- seems less obsequious and less PC/compromising than the NRA, but I'm a newbie at this.

Greetings! I retired after a rough 32 year career in healthcare and now relax on my farm in KY. Began shooting organized .22 target at the age of 11 and it just mushroomed from there! I've lost two firearms collections -- one from a thief while I was at work (got my Grandfathers WWI 1911A1 and other irreplaceable pieces), my ex-wife got the other collection. I'm now working on number three with a Colt 70 Series, Walther PPKS, Ruger SP101, Ruger Red Label O/U, Remington 1100, S&W AR-15 and Rock River AR-15. You're right, I have no brand loyalty and buy what I like!! I enjoy everything from clays to target to crows. Nothing big, though, I feed the deer and turkey that wander across the pasture.

Larry Potterfield should give me a gold card.............
