Area52, welcome to the forum. If you are still involved in scouts & want to shoot other guns, find a venture crew, they are allowed to shoot rifles of most calibers (no 20mm, 50 cals etc) pistols & shotguns. If you are near Bakersfield look up troop or crew 16 & we will get you out shooting.

Thanks. I'm not near Bakersfield, though I have been their for a soccer tournament. Real nice country up that way. The Venture crew at my church is pretty much defunct, most of the people, both girls and guys, were seniors last year and are off to college. Might have to look into other crews.

Hi I'm RaH RaH RaH From SC. I have a couple of questions about an old
gun I just acquired. Mossberg Model 140B bolt action with Model 4M4
scope in original box but it has been used. Can someone tell me the year
and approximate value for insurance purposes?

Hmmm. No avatars, that's different. Quick intro--

I'm a left-winger who strongly believes in the right of armed self-defense. Yes, we do exist!

Most of my time is spent doing organizing and representational work with my union, but I would also like to get more involved with Second Amendment activism.

However, I'm not a member of the NRA or GOA because they support politicians that may support the Second Amendment but don't necessarily care about other civil liberties. I only want my time and money going towards political leaders who cherish the ENTIRE Bill of Rights, but it definitely seems like both Republicans and Democrats like to pick and choose which of the ten amendments they'll uphold, and under which circumstances and when. In my opinion, a conditional support for civil liberties is shallow support indeed.

Also I think the right to bear arms is only one part of self-defense. I think we need community organization and legal/political reform, as well as economic reform to be a part of that otherwise we won't be safe from crime or government abuse-- it'll just be "every man for himself", and although I believe strongly in individual rights and responsibilities I also believe strongly in collective responsibilities to our fellow human beings, especially our families, friends, co-workers and neighbors.

So that's where I'm coming from politically. Personally I'm about to be 32, and I like partying, boozing, punk rock and socializing/carousing with old friends and new people alike, especially of the opposite sex, but I suppose none of that is particularly unique. :)

HUMINT. Uh-oh. You Feds are everywhere. I got enough to worry about if the government ever goes for a full-scale crackdown on militant labor unionism, I don't need the whole "gun nut" burden too, so cut me some slack will ya? :)

Maybe I should make "Not a militia member" my sig line. :D

Just joined up

Just signed up on this forum, because I liked what I saw in a forum. Appears everyone is here to help others with there experience;s and knowledge.
As for myself....I'm ex military ...viet nam vet, and I stilll work for the Fed's for the last 38 years. Love Guns and Magic
I live in Texas a CHL holder, and disapointed with Texas for not having a open carry law, and like everyone else I have strong opinion's about gun control.
Anyway thanks for letting me into the group

Dude I'm all over that mindset, and I believe an open carry law WILL Deter criminals...I mean if I went into a stop n go to bust the place and some dude standing in line with a sholder holster on with a S&W Model 29 44 mag showing...I'm leaving..end of story

I'm a little bit new at this forum stuff but I like the interaction

Just joined live in Arlington Texas, work for the Feds, ex military, viet nam vet, and I hate people that want to rain on my and my family's parade. I'm a CHL holder and I carry everywhere. Mostly 9 mm but when I feel frisky I carry my S & W Model 29 44 mag, and I'm just waiting for the monment when I can say ..."This is a 44 mag one of the most powerest hand guns in the world, and could blow your head clean off....feeling lucky today punk ...well are ya!!!
Please don't get the idea I'm a loose cannon, but I shall not go quietly into the night, nor give up without a fight. Together we stand in numbers the perp's don't have a chance.
Sorry for the venting

Kenny

Howdy! from PA

Hi!

I'm a relatively new gun owner. I'm in my early 20's, and I'm the first one in my immediate family to really be interested in guns and the associated politics. I live in Orrstown, PA (or will live there in a few weeks), which is in Franklin county.

I have three guns right now: a sporterized Argentine Mauser in 30-06, a Mossberg 500C with synthetic youth stock in 20GA, and a Ruger New Vaquero with 5.5" barrel in .357 mag. I really like western lore and history, so some of my guns-to-get are a Win '73 replica (probably in .357 as well) and a coach gun with ext hammers in 12GA.

I'd also like to replace my Mossberg with an Ithica 37 sometime. Other guns-to-get include a Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle, a 1911 (not sure which make and model yet), and, of course, a snubby revolver for CCW. Right now I'm thinking of an SP101, but I haven't tried it out - I might prefer a Smith J-Frame.

Anyway, I love the community and finally decided to join and start posting! I've learned so much already - keep it up!

Hi people! Nice place! I'm J, 42, from Oklahoma. The pleasure's all mine!!!! I'll shut up now so we can get the range hot...............

Greets. I've long searched this forum, but not participated.

June of '07 marked my entry in the world of firearms as I was never around any growing up. Vtech tragedy finally got me moving, as I long held my own "common sense" convictions about people and the blaming of firearms. Since then its become a big passion of mine. I pastor for a living, and have a great family that has been pretty patient and tolerant with my new interest -though it was a surprise at first.
Since last June I first began with a well worn S&W 5904, a 9mm and my first - and then onto a Ruger mkIII target .22lr for "economic learning", then an inherited 20ga shotgun, then yugo sks and finally this summer a little Ruger LCP for deep concealment. It was a fun year. Last Nov. I trained for concealed carry in IA and got the UT permit as well. Now I am somewhat coveting a AR15. I appreciate the deep archives and knowledge base here.

Gentlemen. Im glad that I finally joined this wonderful forum. I hope to learn as much as I can here as I have on Ar15.com and Lightfighter.net.

Im currently a USMC Infantryman (0351 Anti-Tank Assaultman) by trade and crosstrained as Intel (Company Level Intel Cell). Ive also been crosstrained as a heavy-machine gunner and a tow gunner. Ive attended SERE school. I am going on my second deployment to Iraq this month.

Hello, I've read this forum for a while now, and I decided recently to join and start participating. I'm Isaac, and I live up in northwestern Oregon, I've been collecting guns for about three or four years now, and I regularly carry a concealed handgun. I'm not a hunter, but that's mostly due to a lack of time and knowledge, and one of these days I'll get around to it.

I also run a blog in my spare time, http://thejudicator.blogspot.com/ check it out for more details on my gun collection.

Hello;
Been finding lots of the threads from THR coming up when I research my latest purchases.
I live in Northern CA and am interested in rifles for target and rarely some varmint.
Currently using Springfield M1A Loaded Walnut Stock Black Parkerized (.308Win). This is my "high end" rifle I have been using for longer distance (300-600yards).
The other jewel that I picked up recently is a Remington 700 VSF (.223Rem.) 26" barrel 1:12 twist. This is more accurate than anything I have ever shot and I can definitely say that it shoots much better than my 5/8" groups would indicate. (Working on that every week)
I am interested in most any outdoor activity (hiking, camping, surfing, skiing....)
I look forward to posting and learning much more in the future
-Thanks

Hi to all!

I'm Joe, and I live in Texas, and I'm 58. I bought my first gun (Beretta .380) about 20 years ago. Been hooked ever since.

While I go deer hunting usually once a year, I'm really not a serious hunter. But I do love handguns. The guns I own are either some-day-collectors-pieces, or just plain old shooters. I have a few .357's, a few .380's, three 1911's and five 9 mm's. Now I'm looking for a 4" blue Colt Python that's in really good shape.

I used to reload - then I got married. Now I don't shoot as much as I'd like, so I really don't need to reload. Kinda miss it, but I also love golf and that doesn't leave much time for it.

My fav's? I'm torn between my SA 1911, Glock 19 and Ruger Mark II. All great to shoot! :D
