New Member.......

Love finding places to talk about guns and learn from the crowd. I love to shoot and reload. I have a couple of Winchester 52's and a couple of Winchester 70's. My first 52c (1959) is an 18lb target rifle used in 200 yd competition (open sights, no peeps) here in central Texas, been shooting with it for 25 years. I'm not sure how it'll group with a scope, but I expect 1/4" at 100yds. Fell in love with the robust action and accuracy so found myself another 52 (1920, pre-A)to build myself a sporter out of, this one is 88 years old, with the original barrel (although shortened to 22inches) and customized by me with a 3x9 leupold, new walnut stock and modified trigger and bolt. It shoots 3/8" groups at 100yds. My deer rifle is a 1973 M70 in 243 Win.(Redfield 3x9) It is quickly becoming a range hound, now that I've started reloading a lot more. Groups about 3/4" at a 100 but that's not good enough for me, so I'm working on it...... I'm in the process of building another M70 243 which will be another big target rifle for use in the centerfire division of our competition. Gotta have stuff to tinker with!!! Looking for the BEST 22 ammo for my 22's, since we are running out of the old federal ultra-match. Have not yet found a suitable replacement. I'll post pictures of my toys one of these days. My other guns are my Ruger Single-six, 22lr/22mag, a Rossi hammered side-by-side 20gauge and a Winchester 37a 20gauge. FUN!! I look forward to rubbin' E-elbows with ya'll

Newbie

Just wanted to say hi and thanks for such an informative forum.

I am a retired military guy, served 24 years, all infantry, 4 with the USMC '64 - '68 ('Nam '65 - '66); joined the USA in '75 and retired in '95. Had a few interesting deployments with the Army. We were the first mech infantry unit to arrive in Panama when Noriega started his crap down there.

Totally beleive and support RKBA. Licensed to carry and do! My latest carry gun is a Ruger LCP.

Reside in Little Rock, Arkansas with my wife and seven cats and a dog!

Hi I live in Orlando, born and raised, just turned 23. I try to make it to the range @ least every other week if not every week. I prefer the out door range that my friend and I are members of vs. an indoor range, indoors is just too cramped and not so feel good for me(lol?). I guess you could call my dad and I Ruger fan's I think between the two of us we total 5 Ruger pistols. I own a police and security six .357 magnum that i inherited from my grandfather. First gun I bought was a XD .45 acp 4" in all black and I also own a ruger p345. My interest in guns are for sport, I compete monthly in my range's IDPA matches that they host, and for self defence. Sadly Orlando's crime rate is increasing and working 3rd shift @ UPS doesn't make me feel any better about the crime rate. umm..that sums me up in a nutshell i guess.

Been reading the forum for a while since its a great source of information. Finally decided to register a couple of weeks ago...

New to the board

Howdy all new to the board looks like lots of information around here. Soon as I have some time next weekend I will probably be spending a few hours lurking around trying to soak some of that info. up.
Can anyone tell me where to find out about CCW classes in my state? I'm sure it's easy and all but I seem to have drawn a blank....maybe it's the fact that I need to sleep! Thanks all and I look forward to reading some good stuff on this board! Take care.

btw I'm in Kansas anyone else?

Welcome!

Btkanz, Welcome to The High Road.

There are a lot of knowledgeable people here so I'm sure you'll get the answers you're looking for. I noticed you didn't put a location in your profile. You don't have to tell us your exact location, but it would help to know what state you live in. If you live in a medium to large size city, there's a good chance a local gun club offers an CCW class. Here in Colorado Springs, I also see advertisements at the local gun shops. If you have a Sportsman's Warehouse or Cabela's, you might want to check with them.

Good luck, and again, welcome.

EDIT: Didn't see that your in Kansas. My advice still stands. Check your local gun clubs and stores. You can also Google for NRA First Steps in your city.

Howdy, new guy here. I live in the great state of Texas and am a firearms enthusiast. I started totin' firearms for a living as a teenage Marine about a zillion years ago. I'm in the security business now.
I've owned a pretty fair range of firearms over the years, mostly handguns.
Looks like I'm going back to wheelguns for personal carry.
Thanks all for the great forum. Ray

Hi:

I'm a retired USAF officer who owns a browning SA-22, BL-22, a Model 1911, and old Savage 22 and a Shotgun. The M1911 was my wife's grandfather's sidearm in WWI and it's still in good working order.

I have owned a commercial Mauser 30-06, two Marlin 339s, a Marlin 39A, a Remington single shot 22, 6 Colt centennials, 2 Browning Hi Powers (9 MM), a S&W double action 9 MM pistol, a Llama 380 and several Remington shotguns.

I first shot big bores as a plebe at the Naval Academy in 1962. At the end of a week, the USMC instructors had helped my qualify expert with a 45 and an M1 Garand. (Shed more blood that week than I did in Vietnam.

I'm politically conservative, a strong believer in the Second Amendment.

Hey all figured I'd join up,looks like a nice place.

I'm a Moderate and I like the Second Amendment.

Hi Justin! Not really new, but new to this new forum

I'm Cliffy from Southwestern Michigan. I'm retired and will be 66 on August 14th. I've reloaded since eighteen-years-young. I've yet to blow my head off, but I usually load HOT. I've shared hot words with many of the most knowledgeable minds in the field of reloading. I've lost a few valid arguments, and I always appologuise. Not perfect, but extremely experienced regarding what's safe and sane reloadingwise. I have my favorite loads in .223 Remington and .243 Winchester, and some are down-right devastating. I served in the military (U.S. Army 1963-66) as a Spec 5 Flying Crewchief. I felt I'd done more than enough to protect my country within those intense three years. Loved serving my country also. I am pro-American to the enth degree. I'm Republican in attitude and vote. I'm a NRA Member. I'm a lover, rather than a fighter, but I never turn down a firefight. Since 2000, I've been fighting a fractured heart and some serious arthritis. I retired from my college position regarding proper English Language usage. I no longer edit grammar, thank you too much! :) Never afraid to sound off, yet always ready to admit "Uncle" regarding off-the-wall subject matter. I intend to be an asset to this forum, but not an ass. People want to learn, and that is my fort'e. Teaching me something new always works for me in reciprocation. Anything esle you wish to know about me, merely ask . . . Cliffy

Sup yall! I'm mainly a shotgun dude, (mostly hunting upland game) but over the years have really enjoyed my SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS and have purchased several hand guns (my XD-45 is my favorite), a couple of rifles one of them being the Remington 710 (piece of crap but hold on to due to sentimental issues) and a DMPS AP-4 in .223/5.56 NATO. I live in Las Vegas, while it is still somewhat conservative, is becoming more like the Peoples Republic of California every day. One day I dread I may have to leave my birth place in search of a home with fewer freedom hating liberals. Anyhoo I digress. I actually get out to shoot about every other week or so, as a matter of fact I am in for a special treat, as I get to go twice this week. Also as you can see from my handle, I am indeed a teacher, but I love America, and do not want to see Chancellor Obama or Comrade Clinton in office, which puts me at odds with the likes of other teachers and the teacher's union. Screw them, they could always join the military like I did (USAf 92-96 B-1B Crew chief 2A55K) and then talk to me about freedom. I love this site, and have been lurking for a while....... sorry about that. Anyhoo have fun, and remember that only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun and the police are not there to stop the bad guy, only who he was.

New member signing in here.

I see a few familiar faces from some other boards, but for everyone else:

Born and raised in North Dakota, now residing in the Phoenix metro where I work for a fortune 500 doing technology management for them.

As time allows I do some competitive 3 gun shooting and try and make 2-3 trips to the range a month. I'm also into training as I can fit it in. I've taken some defensive medical classes, AR15 armorers classes and was an attendee of LRI's first long range class.

I'm not much of a pistol guy. I own a bunch but don't really get that much time behind anything but my CCW/go to gun. (G19) For rifles I'm pretty much an AR platform / FAL guy.

I shoot an SASS w/Nightforce as my precision rifle. I compete with a SDI AR upper w/ACOG on a Cav Arms lower. My two babies are custom built FALs done by Mark Graham at ARS.

Hello.I'm happy to join this fine group. From eastern Pennsylvania originally and grew up in central North Carolina.
I now live in western NC but my work takes me all over the country.
I'm much the outdoorsman and hunting, fishing, hiking and camping are my most favorite things.
Favorite rifles are the 35 Remington and the 270 Winchester.Deer is the game I go after. My regular carry piece is the Glock 27,40 S&W.
I'm a stauch 2nd Amendment advocate and believe shall not be infringed means just that.
Hope to interact here and learn and discuss.

i'm a dental student and enjoy recreational shooting. i have a sw1911. excellent gun, but every now and again i encounter a FTF (stem-bind), and i'm not sure whether i need to continue firing the gun to break it in or simply firm up my grip on it. the jams have gotten less frequent with time, so perhaps both are improving. i usually use wwb, but cheap-o monarch ammo has given me the most problems, so perhaps that's another contributing cause.

Another New Guy

Hi all. I'm new to the site, had some questions so I figured I'd sign up and look around. I'm 38 and live in Southeastern Michigan. I spent 6 years in the US Coast Guard, worked as an EMT, Diver and Hazmat Tech and now am a Police Officer and Firearms Instructor for a Federal agency. I've been into guns my whole life and my dad was a state cop for half his life and a gun nut and firearms dealer for well over 40 years now. I'm also a FFL dealer on the side and enjoy that. I'm not a gun expert by any means but I'm always glad to help out in any gun or Law Enforcement questions that come up. Look forward to talking to some of you and learning from all of you.

Hello everybody. I did some plinking as a teenager, but never had much interest in guns as an adult. I'm a second amendment supporter for sure, but not much of a shooter.

Now I find myself living in the country and having inherited several of our old family guns. With times getting tough, I thought I should look into what are the best types of guns to have on a rural homestead, and maybe replace some of the old ones, get some new ones and definitely polish up my shooting skills.

I'll be reading a lot here in the next few days and will probably be asking a lot of questions. It sounds like there are a lot of experts here to help.

Hello everyone, long time listner, first time caller (well, almost first time) I like the forum, and have learned a lot. Thanks for all the great info!!

While I have been posting a bit, I am pretty new myself.

I had shot rifle and pistol in the Navy but had not touched a gun for 30 years until May. With the threat of having our guns taken away, I decided to get mine before I couldn't.

I found this site looking for reloading info and love the amount of expertise I find here. I reload 9mm and .223 at present and shoot those and .22lr.

Chuck

Hello. My name is Pat I am 29 married and I have been visiting for along time and finally joined. Always came to this site for any information I might need reguarding firearms. My father got me interested at a very early age and his father got him interested. My father is into shotguns and as for me its black rifles and handguns but my favorite next to my 6.5 grendel is any gun that I am shooting. I used to do alot of shooting 3-4 times a week but We moved to North central Nebraska and there are no ranges except for a 100 yard range 60 miles away and it is only made for 2 shooters. I do get to shoot about 2-3 a month as we have a bit of river bottom ground and I have just finished up a 450 yard range. The only problem is that my dad also has a skeet/trap/sporting clays at the same place, but I have convinced my wife to let me purchase a bit of land here if I can find/afford it to have a place to shoot that isnt 2 hrs away. Looking forward to all the expertise here. Thanks

I just wanted to say hello

Oldie Newbie

Hi folks, I guess you could call me an “oldie” newbie. I am 73 years old and was just recently bitten by the “gun bug”. I really enjoy this forum as there is so much I want to learn and so little time. I am really a better reader than I am a writer, so I probably won’t post too much, but I will spend a whole lot of time reading.

I am pretty much a total revolver type and right now I am an “accumulator” though I really want to develop into a “collector”. Right or wrong, I am S&W all the way. I currently own a S&W 686+ (3 pair and a spare), a S&W 642 (comforting but not comfortable), and a S&W 617 (10 rounds of .22 is fun on the range). My next purchase will be a S&W 627 PC (I really want to own one Performance Center revolver). Oh yeah, I do have a Remington 870 12 gauge as a home protection piece.

As we move down the line, I really look forward to learning about and searching for some of the old “classic" handguns, and hopefully develop a real collection. It sure beats the heck out of collecting stamps or coins!!

I live in Southwestern Utah and we have an advantage of being real close to desert shooting opportunities so we can get a lot of rounds off. I have been through the CCW process and do have my CFL (as they call it here in Utah).

Hi Everyone,

I live just outside of Flagstaff, Arizona and do a lot of hunting, fishing, and shooting activities, I also have some guns for personal defense. Seen this website come up everytime I type a gun question into Google so I figured I'd join.

Hello everyone,

I was introduced to this site by a fellow coworker/brother. I'm a Deputy w/ the Sheriff Dept. Been into guns as far back as I can remember. Joined this site specifically to find out more about S&W handguns, in particular their x42 series. Just perused through tons of pages on the "642 Club" thread. Very good read indeed. ;)

Not much more I can say except that I love guns, gear, and girls, and in no particular order. :D
