My story

Hi all
I lived 60 years with no compelling reason to purchase a gun. I've shot .22 rifles and 12 & 20 gauge shotguns but because of my left eye dominance I just never got comfy with long guns. Several friends have handguns and took a CCW course. The instructor is very strong on self and home defense so I decided to take the course. It was very informative and at the range I qualified with 47 rounds out of 50 (during rapid fire I started going up but corrected) using a Beretta .22. It was a great experience. My brother- and sister-in law and my niece recently took the course as well. I decided to purchase a Bersa Thunder .380 but after checking out webboards and talking to friends I decided I wanted something bigger. My brother and nephew are both policemen and one carries a Glock .40 and the other a S&W M&P .45.

I was able to shoot with friends and shot a S&W 1911 Police .45 and a S&W poly (SV9?). I had previously gone back to a later class at the range and fired 50 rounds of .40 through a Glock compact. I didn't like the gun but the caliber was fine. Anyway I had the Bersa on layaway and traded it for a used Ruger P345 which fits my hand well. I have yet to shoot it but judging from my experiences with the other handguns I'm going to enjoy it. Getting ammo is a challenge right now. Recently I shot a .22 rifle using my right eye and hit the target quite regularly. So with access to an AR-15, the .22 rifle and 12 & 20 ga. shotguns I'll probably work to improve on those. I've gained a lot of info on this site and appreciate their standards.

I am a former Army soldier, grew up hunting in Ohio, now live in N. AL, and have been getting re-acquainted with guns, since it became clear that Obama would become our next President.
I have: 2 Hi-Points; 9mm and .380; a Kel-Tec P3AT; a Taurus PT145; a S&W Sigma 9mm; a Sig Sauer P250 Camo; and a S&W M&P15 5.56. Currently gathering quality parts to build another AR.

I'm a new member from the Atlanta Ga. area, I shoot handguns and shotguns mostly. I really enjoy sporting clays. I own 2 Franchi shotguns, an I-12 and an AL-48. I have several pistols and revolvers my daily carry guns are a Glock G22 strongside IWB and a Ruger SP101 in .357 Magnum Fobus ankle holster.

Howdy,

Just joined up, I'm a yuppie accountant from Denver, I own a few firearms, have my CHL, as well as my 01 & 03 FFL's. I do IDPA, CAS or 3 gun depending on my mood. I reload on a Dillon 650. Firearms are a big part of my disaster preparedness hobby (I hate the term survivalist).

Hi all, I'm Wayne a life long shooter and grew up on small farm in rural Alabama. I have worked in the propane gas industry for the last 19 years. I love guns and the outdoors, and being self reliant, but of course God and Country come first.

Howdy all. Joined today, have enjoyed reading some of the reloading threads. I recently bought a RCBS press and all the stuff that goes with it. Figure I'll get my money back in about 30 years judging from the expense of it all. I'm not much of a gun nut until the recent events surrounding the world today.

I retired after nearly 24 years in the Army. Most of the time was spent flying helicopters and later on airplanes. I was a dustoff pilot in Vietnam and a flignt instructor thereafter. Since I retired in '90 I've putzed around doing this and that. Took up reloading after watching a friend have all the fun. I'm new to it but find it rewarding. Presently I have mostly curio type weapons, a trusty Winchester 30-30, a couple glocks, and a bunch of 22's. This sounds like a respectful bunch who appreciate their 2nd Amendment rights and I'm all about that. God and Country. I plan to pick some brains so be ready!

By the way, my wife is from Massachusetts. Given the choice, it wouldn't be mine but here I am. This state has the most screwed up gun laws in the country. It's hard to stay one step ahead of the man and that's my goal.

Hello my name is Kyle, or Red as most people know me. Online I have been known as RudeMood for some years via various gaming or chat handles. Don't be alarmed ladies and gents, while I do plot and plan for the zombie apocalypse, I strive my best to be a responsible and fair minded American outdoor enthusiast. I was taught shooting and outdoorsmanship by, like so many of my fellow hobbyists, my Father and his immediate male family. Currently I am residing in the hill country area of Texas. My occupations include being an Electrician during the day, Bank Janitor by night and weekend, and part time gamer/writer/outdoorsman/jolly fat guy every other hour not involved with necessary functions.

I come to this board at the ripe old age of 24. I had not touched a gun with the intention of firing it in any manner in almost six years. The '08 election prompted me to reconsider my right to bear arms. Just after the first of the year I purchased a rifle, shotgun, and pistol to call my own. While not nearly enough firepower to hold off a zombie horde or a mysterious inland invasion, I felt that my purchases would help me refamiliarize myself with responsibly handling and using these modern and not so modern marvels. After some unloaded safety drills I hit the range to start shooting once again. I have worked it into my schedule for a few times a month since.

I hope to listen, learn, and converse with you all on a regular basis. Thank you for taking the time to read this (if you do), and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance if I ever have the chance to partake in a discussion with you.

Sincerely,

-Kyle "RudeMood" H.

new to the forum

Thanks to those who put the effort into building and maintaining this forum for others to use and enjoy. I'm new here, I have already enjoyed the wisdom contained in "sm"s written musings. I think everyone should read and digest them thoroughly.

I'm a fireman by trade, married with no children yet. And while we live a bit north of Seattle, WA (very secular-progressive area), we are a very traditional-valued family. I love the outdoors, and I'm looking forward to the time I can spend with my family learning and teaching.

I never served in our military (a decision that at my current age of 34, I wish I had served.) I'd like to thank the veterans for their service, and thank the Police and Fire servants for their service on the homefront.

I found this forum while searching for information on certain platforms for the .308 cartridge. I'll do my best to select the proper thread location for those topics.

Best wishes, and thanks for the opportunity to join your forum.

hello all,

i have been a lurker on and off for a few months now.
ive learned alot from the members here.
i originally found this site while searching for answers to gun-related questions on google.
i am a 2nd year community college student. ill be getting my associates in social sciences end of this semester.
i live in the gun-friendly state of virginia. unfortunately, i still live at home, and the queen of the castle is not gun-friendly:(. in this house, what mom says, goes. luckily, my father is not an anti, and he was at least allowed to hand down his old single-shot marlin .22. my dad and i also go to the local pistol range at least once each month to try out all the different rentals.
later this year, when i am old enough to buy a CCW, i will get my CCL.
in the meantime, i have already purchased three long guns, in secret .
only my local FFLs and my closest friends know.
i plan on telling my father on 3/3/09, which will be the one-year anniversary of my first firearm purchase.
i dont know how/when i will tell my mother. i think ill devise a plan for that with my dad eventually.

New Member to THR saying Hello

Hello,
My name is David Owens and I too am a gunaholic. It has been brought to my attention that the first step is admitting this so here goes.
I am 43 years old and live in Springfield Missouri. I have been involved in Hunting, Shooting and Reloading since the age of 4.
I am currently back in School working towards obtaining a Bachellors Degree in Environmental Sciences.
I have spent much time behind a Gun Counter selling Firearms and other Firearms related Paraphenalia for more than 12 years. Helped Teach Hunters Education Classes for the state of Missouri for two years. And spent more than three Years as Assistant Range Master at a Local indoor range.
I shoot Black Powder (Rifles and Revolvers).
Pistols, Revolvers, Shotguns and Rifles. I have a very specific weakness for Accurate Varmint Rifles and have recently acquired a new EBR...(Evil Black Rifle.) and an EBP (Evil Black Pistol.)
I have reloaded for many different and even oddball calibers from the .25 ACP to the .458 Win Mag...although the vast majority of my time at the loading bench has been in search of accurate loads for Varmint calibers.
Basically, if it goes bang then I like it.
I am always looking for others to shoot with in my area and look forward to getting to know others on the forum after lurking, reading and learning for awhile.

Another newbie

My name is Jeremy Kebert from Topeka, KS. I am married with 4 kids. I am a avid hunter and unsuccesful fisherman. I enjoy it just don't seem to be real good at it. I am a hunter education instructor and bow hunter education instructor here in the Topeka area. I am going to a class next weekend to become a NRA range safety officer. Spend most of my shooting time as of late with a t/c encore. I have this in three barrels. 209x50, 300 win mag, and a 22-250 rem. I have had this rifle for about three years now and am hooked on it. Hope to pick some of your brains about different topics.
