All fired up

Hi folks. I'm newer to this message board, but I am finding that I enjoy forums as a great place to discuss ideas and get on board with certain issues.

I just unleashed a rant on "Assault Weapons" in the general discussion. Feel free to vent in followup messages.

Decided to dip my oar in on this forum, as I've read individual threads many a time researching things. I'm a retired Air Force journalist still working for the Air Force as a data clerk here in North Texas. Far from my Minnesota origins.

Well I guess I had better do an intro post. :D

I have been shooting since I was a wee little lad. I joined to learn more about certain guns that I own and to hopefully learn more about gunsmithing and well heck anything else I can about guns.

Currently I own a bunch of guns, AKs that I have built myself, sks, shotguns galore, a really old marlin/glenfield 60, some mosin nagats and a couple of handguns for ccw just to name a few.

So I guess what I am trying to say is Howdy from a fellow firearms enthusiast!

Hello from the UK,

I am a 46 year old Police Officer of some 22 years service. Prior to that I was in the Royal Air Force Police for 6 years and the Territorial Army (sort of like your National Guard) for the two years prior to that.

Shooting was always something that I could do well and lived for my times on the range. In the Military I used the Browning HiPower 9mm pistol, the L2a3 SMG (A.k.a "The Sterling") also in 9mm, the L1a1 SLR in 7.62mm NATO (The British version of the FN FAL), the L4a1 LMG (a Bren gun rechambered to 7.62mm), the L7a1 GPMG which is the FN Mag.

I have always had a great interest in firearms which, in the UK, has always been a subject generally frowned upon by the majority of UK society and thus making someone like me "one to be watched". I believe in the citizens right to bear arms and that the British Police should be armed in the same manner as the rest of the planets Law Enforcement, so I am considered somewhat controversial in the UK.

The only firearm I privately owned was a Valmet 412s 12 gauge over and under shotgun for sporting clays. I was just about to start buying my first handguns when the Government completed its Draconian gun bans killing the firearms community in the UK.

I really enjoy coming over to the USA for my vacations and have visited Florida twice and took advantage of the gun rental facilities and had a great time. I really envy and respect your freedom over in the USA. If you think you are oppressed, spend a little time in the UK under the Stalinist junta Mr Blair left us! Trust me you are not doing too badly at all.

I'm coming over again in July this year. This time to L.A and San Diego and will be scoping out the gun ranges again. My eldest son will be 19 while we are there and we'll be spending his birthday morning getting through as much ammo in as many different guns as possible. Can't wait!

This is me on the range in Orlando with my favourite handgun design of all time: the 1911a1 .45acp (this was a Springfield Armory example):

Is there anything more fun? Only a room full of Playboy centrefolds, and there would have to be a lot of them!

By the way, I'm not bald, thats a solar panel for a sex machine!

See you on the forums.

Bo

Been reading THR forums for awhile, thought I would sign up so I can partake in the conversations!

I enjoy all aspects of shooting from small cal handguns to high power rifle.

We'll be talking with ya!

Hi All,

Well I go to Hillsdale College. One of if not the last bastions of conservative thought in the US. I'm also a licensed pilot and air traffic controller. I have a Marlin 795 and a Taurus model 85 that I carry in all legal situations. I plan to add a Springfield 1911 GI to my collection in the next two months or so.

Hello.

This is actually my second post, but hello to all!

So I'm basically an average dude with a small pistol collection. Got 3 at the moment and working on a fourth. If anyone's looking to offload a Sig 232, let me know!

good evening

Just joined today, I have found THR to be very informative over the years.
I run my own business/website from north florida. Trying to get my FFL before its just a memory. looking forward to future threads.

No Worries, Not a Clandestine Anti...

Hello all. Fairly new to the forum...lurked for quite a while. I am an active military member. I have enjoyed the outdoors, shooting, and archery since childhood - thanks to the influence of my grandfather who served as a Seabee in WWII. Current interests are family fun activities varied and assorted, golfing with my kids, archery hunting, duck hunting, reloading, and rifle/pistol/skeet shooting. No time for any other hobbies!!

Another new guy here to the form all around gun nut i have a few new and a few old last count there was 378 all together

WOOT! First Wheel Gun

I got sidetracked looking for a coat at BassProshops and saw something shiney m29a14.gif I always wanted a man-gun; as I never had experienced much of a testerone blast from 9mm or .45ACP. I was visualizing a .500 S&W, but thought "maybe I'll work up to it" with a .44Mag.

I must say the first box of 50 had me hooked! My hand is still sore; but as they say "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger". I'm squeezing my strength ball as I type.

Since I am a BIG guy, and have always wanted a shoulder rig, I contacted Ted Blocker and am getting a 'quazi' DH Rig (sized for my ample torso).

This harness: LLV2.gif because I wanted speedloader cap on SH side.

Coupled with this holster:

I can't wait!! This may be the longest 6 weeks evar!

Don was a super gentleman! He didn't flinch when I said I needed a rig sized for a 56" chest; just said "Hmm, I'll need to make X & Y longer. I custom cut them anyways."

Howdy all,

I've heard good things about this forum, so I figured it was time to stop by and see for myself.

My handle is admittedly a little odd. I came up with it years ago in a pinch and have used it on all forums since then. I'm a Social Psychologist with specialization in the research field of Nonverbal Communication. Outside of academia and law enforcement, applications for this experience are limited, which is why I work as a statistical analyst.

My hobbies include trying to keep up with my two daughters, who are currently four and two. When the missus and the girls are asleep, I love to read about firearms.

In closing, I'm looking forward from learning from the forumites here. I hope to be able to contribute something worthwhile as well.

Best wishes to all. Thank you for letting me join your community.

hey all,

I am a new member, I have been on some other gun forums and this seems to be a good one.

I like most curio and relic types of guns as well as AR and AK's, and own a good many of both. I look forward to posting here.

So after three months of crap from my new boss via an acquisition, I finally reached a breaking point and thought, "I am going to shoot that pr*ck!"

Then I thought, "I don't have a gun. I'll just have to crush his larynx."

That segued into "Why don't I have a gun?". I always enjoyed shooting while I was in the Corps many, many years ago and thought I would like to investigate gun ownership as a hobby.

So I became a lurker to THR, reading hundreds of posts and getting edukated :)

I have been to 1 gun show and made 12 visits to 5 different gun stores in my area. I have not bought anything yet as I can't decide...

But after I rented a pistol and put 30 shots within a 8 inch circle at 25 feet (24 years between trigger pulls), I went right out and applied for a CCW permit...

Still can't decide what to buy though (sigh)....

Greetings to all ;)

Hello,

It's great to be a part of a group of folks who "get it"! I'm looking forward to sharing knowledge and insight.

Personally, I am interested in helping others prepare to defend those they love, when they may not initially admit a need to.

My firearm collection includes:

  • Glock 26 subcompact 9mm pistol
  • Glock 23 compact .40 cal pistol
  • Remington 870 Express 20-gauge shotgun
  • Ruger 10/22 rimfire rifle
  • Savage 10FCPXP HS Precision .308 sniper rifle

And...the new Ruger .380 lightweight compact pistol, on back order!

Blessings,
Dan

Another new guy

Another new guy here from Virginia. Interested in target shooting and self defense. If it goes bang though, I'm interested. Right now, I have a taurus 85ul, a beretta 9000s, a 10/22 bench gun, the ever popular pistol grip 12 gauge, and my "boomstick"; a single shot NEF 12 gauge cut down on both ends just long enough to be legal, but just short enough to be FUN!:D

Welcome Ohio guy - THR is a great place - more information then you will know what to do with!

First post- I just joined today, minutes ago. I’m a long time gun owner. I live in NJ which sucks for gun owners AND taxpayers. I started off with the Beretta 12 gauge Semi-Auto Shotgun from when I hunted as a kid. I still have the gun and it’s in prefect condition. I had a Ruger Mini 14 which I trashed due to stupid NJ assault weapons, come to find out it was still legal according to the gun shop but there is allot of confusion for LEGAL gunowners. I'm a S&W, Ruger and Colt fan, I have the S&W 5906, Colt 45 Officer’s Special, Ruger 44Mag, S&W 357 and just recently added the S&W 642 and I'm debating if I should add laser sites to the S&W642. I'm glad to be onboard

Hi all. Joined a couple days ago to find info but just found this thread.
I decided that things are just getting too crazy to not be prepared to defend myself and family and since I'm too old to run fast or put up much of a fight, decided it was time to get gun for self defense.
I've had a Colt Frontier Scout for many years and used it seldom for plinking. Not suitable for concealed carry so I went to a local gun shop and immediately loved how the CZ rami in 40mm felt in my hand and seemed good for concealment..
I'm off to search the threads for any info I can find for a laser sight for it.
