New member--- been shooting since I found an old 22 in the barn when I was 8 years old. Love shooting long distances, just getting into old military pistols. Love russian surplus. Live in Big rapids MI, me and a buddy are planning on invading canada and taking it byforce around lunchtime tomorrow, I think it will be a short skirmish ;) Looking for a new gun would love some input.

:eek:I'm a 57 year old Arizona CCW new member looking to gain and share information on handguns, both for concealed use as well as sporting use.

I have a 1927 Remington Model 51 .380 (it shoots great!), a Walther PPK/s .380 (it shoots great),a Springfield Subcompact .40 (tight groups), and a Taurus Model 605 .357 (excellent for a snubby). I also have a few longguns and shotguns, but seldom have time to take them out for exercise.

I find the Springfield to be an exceptional weapon, with stiff recoil, the Taurus Model 605 2" snubnose has very strong recoil, (except with 125 grain .38 Special rounds), the Walther PPK/s has moderate recoil, and the old 1927 Remington Model 51 .380 has the lightest recoil of them all.

I carry strong side (El Paso Saddlery) for the Springfield, Strongside or pocket for the Taurus Model 605 .357, and pocket or IWB for the .380's.

I consider the Springfield the best carry weapon, although the .357 comes a close second. The .380's are summer wear.

I am interested in learning more about safe ways of handling bad situations.

Hello, I have search the net for reload data in the past; than came accross this site. After reading some of the post, I joined in hopes of finding some 480 ruger reloading data.

Hello, this is a great site.

I live in Australia and like the info you have here. Thanks.

Mick.

Hi all!

Thanks to all of you who have helped me before I joined. I found that all the questions that I googled led me to the answer I needed which I found in this forum. After spending so much time in the forums I thought it was only suiting to make it official and join.

I've been shooting since I was 4 years old (seriously) and have shot competitively for many years starting in high school. I have an ever-growing collection but am an avid Ruger fanatic. The prize of my collection is my slightly modded new model SBH 44mag 7.5" barrel due to it's handling, accuracy, and versatility. I know it's not flashy, expensive, or rare, but I can drive nails with that thing! A couple others of worthy note are my Browning BPS 12ga, Baby Desert Eagle 9mm, and a custom California legal AR-15.

I am a true enthusiast and try to get all my friends to go to the range with me at one time or another. The more people shoot, the more people gain interest in it, right? I also reload, which is where I ran into most of the info I needed from this group in the past.

Thanks for all your help in the past and for all your advice in the future!

Hi My name is Joe, and I decided to shoot handguns after many years of shooting clays. I joined the forum as I bought a gun and seem to have a problem with it and hoped that shared experience may help in this and other things as I journey back to handgun shooting. Hello all

Mostly interested in handguns (have more than my wife knows). Started out as semi favored but now have moved into revolvers - have SW model 60 .38/357m, Ruger SP101 in 357m and Ruger Redhawk in 44m. Finding shooting revolver more challanging (good groups but always low). Interested in any info on changing out the Model 60 front sight to "hi-viz" type - any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I have been lurking for a while. Finally could not take the lack of "search" button any more :)

On the range you will find me shooting trap or IDPA most of the time.

Just found this site and looks good. I'm a retiree and don't have anything to do but shoot and hunt and fish ALL DAY, if mom says it's OK:uhoh::uhoh: So I guess I'll be doing what I'm told! Former Navy 1967-72 and life member NRA.
Work when I have to shoot when I can. Hobby gunsmith, woodworker jack of all trades master of none:banghead:

Hi, everyone,

A n00b gun owner here, be gentle. ;)

Got a 686-6 4". Probably paid too much, and didn't research the whole integral lock thing, but I sure enjoyed the first range experience with it, so live & learn.

Have an STI Ranger II in 9mm on order.

Will have many questions, I'm sure. AdTHANKSvance for your patience.

I got pointed here by the good folks at http://www.twtex.com . This board seems pretty true to its name, I like that.

All the best to "all y'all"... :)

Name here is Ed.
Since I just started at this website and this is my first post, as a new member how do you start a topic without breaking someone's thread on their specific topic? A search did not come up specifically on my topic. I am retired USN (24 yrs.) many years ago and live in Mississippi. Not a native but married one. Finally convinced her to move back here. Originally from Colorado and do not like it there. Things have changed too much for me politically/socially/economically. I don't hunt but like to shoot at targets etc and try different loads. Having said all that I love it here in the south. I am a runner, biker, walker. Also a ham op, call sign ND7X. I also play the mandolin and we have local jams here in the area just about every weekend.
Now on to my specific question about my near new purchase of the Bushmaster XM215-e2s with the A2 config.:
I Just fired it for the first time Saturday and love the way it handles and shoots. I do have a question about the Bushmaster's 20 rd magazine. Purchased separately today at a different store. It has the B.M. black plastic base and is stamped 5-03. It was sold to me as a 20 rd mag but I can only load 10 into it. Is there a plug at the base inside the mag.? As far as outside appearance is concerned, it is physically one half the length of my 30 rd mag. My 30 rd mag., an "OKay" brand does accept 30 rounds so it works as adverterised. Any thoughts? More to follow.

Hello from Houston. Been shooting for a long time. Still have a bunch to learn. Thanks for the forum.

So Im from West Texas, I've always loved guns and shooting.

I own a IWI Jericho in 45acp, and a Taurus 627 in .357mag

So nice to be here

Another newb

I just started to take an interest in firearms, although I wish I'd done so much earlier when prices were more reasonable! I just bought a few from an old collector, but before that I'd fired my cousin's Ruger 10/22, Marlin 60, and Mossberg 500 series 12 gauge at a local free range back home. I've also used my father's ancient crusty old single shot .410.

I've been working one of Minnesota's maximum security state prisons since the summer of 2007, and being trained on the AR-15 and the 12 gauge (we use a DPMS AR and the Remington 870 Express) really piqued my interest.

My first gun was a trade for a couple of really cheap guitars (of which I also have quite a few). I got an older Remington 1100 12 gauge with a Weaver scope and a slug barrel in addition to the stock shot barrel. I tried to trade it with the old timer that sold me my most recent acquisitions, but he'd only give me $200 so I passed.

Anyway, here's what I bought:
ruger.gif
I paid a steep $500 for this Ruger Vaquero in .45LC. Buyer beware. Still, it's in 'as new' condition and a nice gun. Now that I've had a chance to handle a myriad of handguns, I think I'm a revolver guy. I wish I'd gotten a better price, but oh well.

golani_sks.gif
I paid $450 for the Golani in great shape with two 35 round magazines and $200 for the SKS. I thought they were 'okay' prices, but then I looked at the prices some of these rifles are taking with the current panic.

I really like AKs, but I don't know if I should spring now or wait to see if things cool down. I remember seeing new Romanian WASR10's in a pawn shop for $199 each back in 2004. Now they're at least $450, and everyone's sold out! I'm also reading online write ups of AK rifles, and I hear all about how people purchased their sporterized Saigas and whatnot for less than two bills. Those days are long gone!

Anyway, this looks like a great forum. I've been lurking for awhile and the fact that the High Road archives show up on Google is great.

Hey Hey Hey

New to here, new to the PNW from Alaska, new to asking questions, and new to listening (according to my wife).

I am the product of a father whom (passed on now) loved guns, had more than in my many years on this globe have seen any equivalent to.

I have through no concerted effort acquired many guns. My favs are handguns, and ar series.:D

With our newly installed political regime, guns are once again focused on by some individuals in our government. I am not a NRA supporter for personal reasons and I feel it would be best that I am informed. This forum seems to be the place for that.

I also have enjoyed very much lurking here and reading all of your posts.

Thanks and OFF WE GO!

Hello I am a newbie. I did shoot DCM competition long ago. I am going to get back in this year. As you can tell it has been awhile I still call it DCM. I am in the thinking of buying an M-1 Garand. So I have lots of questions there. I do shoot the M1A1 and the AR in service matches. Be nice to have some help in the M-1 area. Thanks

I'm a newb too. I signed up on this site a week or so ago. I really like military arms whether they are firearms or blades it don't matter to me, I only own guns at this point but may start a blade collection sometime down the road. I like guns better cuz they go BOOM! As of today I only own 3 rifles. A .303 Brit No. 4 MK2 dated 2/52, a U.S. Model of 1917 Remington 30.06 that has been sporterized, and an original 1970 Remington Nylon 66 .22 Long Rifle that my dad left me when I was 16.

When I was a kid, I used to shoot that .22 and with iron sights, I could shoot the eye out of a fly at 100 yards and he would still have 99 left.

As I have aged though, my eyesight has diminished somewhat and now i take out the rest of them with the wind burst as the lead flies by. But I still enjoy shooting.

You guys have already been very helpful and informative to me. Thank you!

Mikey!

Howdy from Texas

First post. Found this forum while surfing.

In N Texas we have frequent gun shows, with the same faces and even the same weapons repeatedly offered for sale. I always enjoy browsing & chatting with sellers and enthusiasts. Perhaps I can now do the same via the Internet. (And I save the seven bucks admission fee-!) I'm interested in milsurps and other Curio & Relic weapons that exhibit some craftsmanship and history; not enthusiastic about the modern composite, hi-cap tactical pistols, etc. (I do kinda like the Bushmasters, though.) Looking forward to lurking & learning.

**Don't forget: WHEREVER you guys live [in the States]--DON'T fail to drop a letter--a REAL paper letter by USPS--to each and every one of your Representatives and Senators, state and federal--and let 'em know your feelings about our right to enjoy the shooting & collecting hobby. No excuse not to: their addresses are instantly found with a Google search. Politicians' first and most important task: stay in office. Be connected and powerful. When a voter gets in touch, they listen. Don't forget to drop Obama & Biden a letter as well. It makes a difference.

Peace, all--Buzz

A very warm welcome to all you new members.
Although I'm apparently considered a "senior member" I only joined in may last year.
I hope you'll find (as I did) THR a friendly environment with high standards populated by helpful - and often very knowledgeable- fellow gun enthusiasts.
(Someof them are even quite funny, too)

Greetings Members!
I'm a new member, first time poster but have enjoyed reading through the threads for the past few months. Thanks to all the members for keeping the commentary in line with the Forum name and values!
I'm mostly focused on personal/home defense and currently own a Para Ord 1911 as well as a Walther PPS. I love both weapons, but prefer the Walther when on the range as well as for Concealed Carry. Besides, the 1911 is a commemorative gun that I'm working my hardest to keep in pristine condition. :)
I'm looking forward to the continued instruction and advice that is always forthcoming from our members.
Cheers,
G.P.
