Hi Beau!

I'm pretty new here myself.

My dad is a retired Marine. 3 tours in Vietnam. He worked as an avioincs tech. A-6 Intruder all weather attack jet. I spent most of my life as a kid living on Marine air stations......the last one was Cherry Point, N.C. back in the 1970's.

May I ask....were you or are you at Cherry Point?

Anyway, as for myself......I regret to say that I never served......so I do not rate in your presence.:D

On behalf of my pop......Semper Fi!

New member but not new to Firearms.

I have made mistakes in My time and one of the mistakes I have made is to register to a forum then jump right in without introducing Myself.:banghead::banghead:
So here I am.I have not been a lurker on this site for more than about 10 minutes and decided right away this is a good place to be.
Nice site with a lot of info on firearms.
My latest purchase is a "M1A1 loaded" from the Springfield Armory.
I have read the book and cleaned the bore and chamber and checked lubrication on the rest of the rifle so now it`s time to siterin.LOL
Taking off on an icefishing excursion this weekend so that will be the first try out for this beauty.
I also frequent another website that deals with icefishing and do a lot of posting there too.iceshanty dot com and My user name is the same over there too.
I am a born and raised in eastern Montana person and do enjoy the freedom of driving less than five minutes and being out on the wild plains of eastern Montana.
Any how thats about enough from Me for now.:D

Howdy all!

I'm from Pretoria, South Africa. This site has been a source of information for quite some time now.

I own a few guns (albeit not easy with our restrictive legislation) and I hunt as often as I can (or afford!).

Looking forward to sharing some gun-related ideas!

My name is Lance.I have been a keen and active gun enthusiast since 10 years old.My Dad gave me my first BB Gun for that birthday(a Buffalo Bill model!!) and I was hooked. At school my sport was shooting(and Judo).Between 1984 and 1988 I served in our military and became a Platoon Sargeant in our Infantery forces.During that time I fought in the Angolan Bush War against a wide range of assorted commies from Cuba,East Germany and the U.S.S.R.I still hate commies. The part of South Africa I grew up in was the Free State, which has a culture similar to American Southern and Western conservative culture.I would describe myself as a conservative,God fearing ,meat eating, gun carrying, free market loving, heterosexual, white male of Scots/Irish and Boer heritage...and Proud of It.

I live in Cape Town today and am married with two children. My hobbies include Motorcycling,Defensive pistol and Cowboy Action Shooting.

I carry a Star P.D. .45 ACP everyday and own a few 1911's and many single action revolvers as well as a "stagecoach" style 12 gauge shotgun,an 1874 Sharps replica in .45/70 as well as a Winchester 1892 replica in .44.magnum.

Proud Boer is my username as I am proud of my Boer heritage,my Great Grandpa was a General in the Boer Army during the Anglo/Boer was 1899/1902

I was carjacked on 8 May 2008 by three armed(Tokarev 7.63) goblins.I drew a single action .22.Mag and shot two of them. One fatally.Although I won the fight,I was shot twice in the action. The criminals got nothing from me,only my bulletts and fists!!

I am looking forward to being a member of this community.

THE MODERN BOER

"Take a community of Dutchmen of the type of those who
defended themselves for fifty years against all the power
of Spain at a time when Spain was the greatest power in the world.
Intermix with them a strain of those inflexible French Huguenots,
who gave up home and fortune and left their country forever at the time
of the revocation of the edict of Nantes.
The product must obviously be one of the most rugged, virile unconquerable
races ever seen upon earth.
Take this formidable people and train them for seven generations
in constant warfare under which no weakling could survive, place
them so that they acquire exceptional skill with weapons and
horsemanship, give them a country which is eminently suited to tactics of
the huntsman, the marksman and the rider.
Then finally put a finer temper upon their military qualities by a dour
fatalistic Old Testament religion and an ardent and consuming
patriotism.
Combine all these qualities and all these impulses in one individual
and you have the modern BOER."

Arthur Conan Doyle. 1902 The Great Boer War

Lastly,I am a South African Patriot and love the United States too!

Regards.

Need gun ideas for a book

I'd like some advice on guns (about which I know NOTHING) to use in a book I'm writing. Basically, I'll need a ballistics test to ID a gun that would be used by a military guy (any branch, any specialty, I don't have a handle on that, yet)... but NOT someone in the police department. I'd like it to be just a handgun, not an automatic.

Are there handguns that are unique to military service? And what type of handgun would a small town police officer (in Southern Georgia) use?

I appreciate your help!

Charla

Hell-o all!

as you can see by my post count I decided to take the forum for a quick test drive before deciding if I was going to stick around. The verdict? You guys seem like a great group, so now you're stuck with me.

A little about me I am a U.S. Army OIF veteran. now a days though I am a student at fabulous Colorado State University where it is perfectly legal for me to bring a gun to class.

I hope to benefit from years of experience and share my opinions and receive the opinions of others on this site.

the post about getting started in reloading is amazing. I've been interested for a while now in getting into that, now I just need to find the money to do so.

CT shooter

Hi Stuart here, new THR member from Connecticut.

About 18 months ago I went for my permit as a result of a really horrible triple murder in my town. I had been thinking about it for a while before the murder after we found someone in our home at 3 in the morning and I "chased" them out with a maglight in my hand. Having lived in Massachusetts as a youth, and hearing all the stories of how difficult the police made it for ordinary people to purchase a handgun, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the process was as a law abiding, reasonably sane individual.

My father-in-law had a lot of guns before he died, and the family has a few of them left-over from his collection stored and unused for 25 years now. I had it in mind that I would use those guns, but instead it sparked a family discussion about whose they were that we are working to resolve (nicely and peacefully I might add). In the meantime I was "loaned" a Colt Woodsman Target .22 that I absolutely love the feel of. It is probably from the 60s and was very well taken care of. I scratched the blueing off the takedown pin but otherwise have been doing my best to keep it properly.

Recently I bought my first handgun, a Sig P226 in .22LR that I intend to upgrade shortly via the current upgrade program to 9mm.

I came here because of some of the interesting threads I read off of Google. It seemed most of my queries pointed to at least one message thread on THR, so I figured this must be one of the places to be!

Welcome to the two Boers! I've been a great fan of your culture (as well as that of Rhodesia) since the early '70s. Keep on keeping on. You will prevail.

hi everyone out there. my name is craig. i was browsing and came across this sight. it seems like it will be very interesting. i am a new hand gun buyer. i have shot several guns in my life time,so i did my home work and decided to purches a s&w m&p .45. have not fired it yet .any thing to know about first cleaning or before shooting ,or any coments.:)

I'm new and have lots of questions

Hi, I am new, and yes I have a lot of questions. I have a bit of experience shooting, but little to no knowledge about any guns other than the one I have for home protection. I inherited some guns when my father passed away, and I am interested in finding out about them.

I have a fear of forums. It seems that there are always way too many instructions, and way too many options and it intimidates me. It is odd because I am not intimidated by much else.

So, I am going to sneak around and keep reading things for who-knows-how-long, but if anyone wants to jump in and be my guide, please come forward.

I have read enough to know that most everyone thinks it is silly to post a list of all the guns you own. I also read a really great line by someone (sorry, you should get credit but I didn't catch your name and if I go back to look I will probably never post this so...)about an unfortunate boating accident that really struck my funnybone. The problem is, if I need help, and I shouldn't just list the guns I need help with, it puts me in a bit of a quandry.

I really do need some help. Volunteers?

New Member

Hello, I am new here. Been checking out this forum for a while now but finally decided to join. My name is Chris and I currently own two guns, but plan on buying another one very soon (Glock 26). My two guns are in my signature below.

Musgrave, nice to hear from nog a Boer! Lets stay in touch.2fewdaysafield,thank you for the kind words.I am looking forward to posting on this community.P.B.

Howdy. New to the forum. Member of the NRA, CCP and I encourage women to shoot to defend themselves and their loved ones. I'm a revolver girl although I do own and sometimes use one 1911 as a courtesy to my husband, well, I bought one to show him I know what I'm doing when I do buy and he kinda took it over cus it's really nice :) He keeps it with his other three 1911's. Shooting is a family sport here. I own a "thinking woman's Lady Smith" an Airweight .38 Snubnose. Better than the Lady Smith because it's lighter and less costly. I'd recommend it to any woman any time! Also in my collection is a .357 pearl handled S&W and a 1938 Nagant. Eclectic to be sure but I love them all. I love to shoot, to keep in practice, to relieve stress and just to have fun. I love my conceal carry permit and urge women in states who issue them to learn how to shoot, get a permit and be safe. Emphasis on safety first, mind you!

Greetings from GA
