Hi,

I have been surfin'/lurkin' THR a couple years now; I like the forum guiding philosophy.
Fond of firearms, boy child of the 50's, taught how by two ex-WWII paratroopers (Dad & Uncle), neither much inclined to tell a young lad anything but once.

I think every law abiding citizen of any free republic ought always have the right to own personal defense weapons, natural right of self-defense acknowledged by the Bill of Rights, not created by, "shall not infringe" means shall not infringe. Not much inclined to argue about the meaning of what the word "is" is.

Old guy, married to an angel, don't have a clue why she puts up with me, but she do; 3 grandsons, 3 great-grandsons, one great-grand baby girl born just last week. Some guys go shopping for a football helmet when a child is born; I go shopping for Chipmunks. Got to find me a PINK one now. Accessorized With an NRA sticker on buttstock and a 1" tube 3MOA red dot.... hmmm, silver sights should go nicely w/ pink, dontcha think ?

CCW is a family thing - me, milady, son, daughter, and two of three grandsons (the other too busy girlin'). Nine out of ten ladies chosen at random will outshoot 9 out of 10 guys chosen at random, get over it. Everybody ought to do CCW Permit legal; if you can't do it "right", don't do it at all.

Not a SHTF sky-is-falling guy... forget ammo, forget duct tape... buy more rope.. tie yourself to a stout tree, so you don't go spinning off into outer space when the earth suddenly stops turning... somebody says "BUG", I look for something to step on.

I don't do mega-magnums, full auto, or tactical, but think "it's all good" for those that do. Old guy old style personal preferences. I don't do ARs either, but think they are great rifles, more folks ought to try one out. Always said I never met a cop I didn't like, or a gun that didn't shoot better than me, but have met some very few nonetheless, just "the exception that proves the rule", that's all. I am not going to talk about the extreme few make/model firearms I hold in low esteem here; an old guy can get his butt kicked easily enough without giving anybody good cause to, no need.

Own and shoot 410, 28, 20 guage, 22LR, 22WMR, 17HMR, 25acp, 380acp, 9MM, 32S&W, 38/357, 243, 30-30
Love anything w/ a Browning logo, but my heart ultimately belongs to S&W revolvers (two J frames, six K-frames, older models like me)
My all-time favorite centerfire handgun is 6" model 66 357 (three of 'em... his-n-hers S&Ws, and our's Taurus)
My all-time favorite rimfire handgun is 6" k-frame (four of 'em... two 17s, one 648, one Taurus 96)
My favorite rimfire and/or centerfire rifle varies w/ the moon phase, but real fond of 357 carbines (his-n-hers), and Browning rimfires (four, his-n-hers-n-ours). Real fond of Ruger MKs and Savage rimfires also.

What I mostly wear is 380acp, Colt Government model series 80 mark IV (all steel/single stack). I do not do cocked & locked because I do not consider myself world-class-tactical proficient. I believe anybody can have an AD/ND (although I never have... yet) no matter how smart, safety-conscious, or experienced. I worry a tad about those who who think they cannot AD/ND, but that is their responsibility, not mine. I want to stay scared of doing that.

What my son most often wears is a Colt Government model series 80 mark IV 380acp, by his own choice
What one of my grandsons most often wears is the Llama knock-off 380acp, by his own choice (couldn't find/afford the Colt)
ain't my fault

I sometimes wear LCP, and am acutely aware of my severe limitations with it; for me, it is a seven shot derringer, range limited to width of a large poker table for "desperation situation". I carry it w/ tube empty likewise. If milady is with me, I carry the Colt, and if they shoot me dead standing in front of her whilst I am racking one in, she will maybe have time to get her Ruger SP101 out of her purse. How it is. You make your own choice and you pay the price.

"this ain't Dodge and me ain't Bill Hickcock"

I walk into a gun show, I check my CCW weapon with the cop at the door. I walk into wallyworld, I wear it; they don't like it, I can buy cheap junk elsewhere. You are welcome to CCW in my home, but if you pull it just to show/brag on it without asking permission, expect to leave abruptly. Stay away from bad places you do not have to put yourself in. "Nothing good happens in public after midnight"

I shoot weekly, range day averages ~300 rounds per trip, mostly rimfire, can't afford that much centerfire.
Lousy shot, old eyes, bad hands, my "speed" shooting off hand DA amounts to six-in-two, typical one or two hits on a 16oz plastic bottle @ 15 yards, three or four close misses, and one "where did that go ??" Can still bust a soda pop can w/ 357 open iron sights at 75 yard off a buttrest sandbag, though... it it holds still long enough

Shooting dimes at 50 yards & nickles at 100 yards w/ a scoped 17HMR over a sandbag is just more fun than an old man ought to still be allowed sitting down.

Been a lot of places around America in the last half century, and there are a whole lot of really good people in all of them, many different flavors, but all good people. Do not let talking heads on TV tell you any different.

Unlikely to post a whole lot here (you just heard it all anyway). Besides, I have noticed that with average 60 seconds time lag someone else will post whatever reply I might have, except for saying it so much better. What's not to love about that ?

If all that is NOT more than you ever wanted to about me, you are spending too much time in cyberspace.
Turn it off, go pet a dog, hug a child, and kiss a lady. :):):)

Hello. New member and just stopping by to say Hey.

Just thought I'd say hey to all. I have not done much visiting on this site, but felt now is as good a time as any to check it out and say "hi" to all. I live in Virginia, around 6 miles from Manassas. I am a very strong supporter of both concealed and open carry, the Second Amendment, and all of our other rights and freedoms our Founders saw fit to codify.

Enjoy!

Oh, BTW, how can I attach an avatar??

Ok, I just did a search and found out that avatars are not supported. Got my answer.

Hey there, quick bit about myself: Have been actively hunting since I was 12 with a compound bow that was a christmas present and rifle hunting since I was 14 with a Marlin 336 30-30 that my grandfather gave me for a birthday present just in time for deer season.

I primarily shoot handguns at present because there isn't a "season" at the range. :D Just bought my first rifle: a Tikka T3 hunter in 300WSM. Funny thing is that after the purchase I realized that it was the first rifle I had ever had to purchase because all the others had been given to me by family members (grandpa and dad). ;)

Live in the wonderful Pacific Northwest and looking forward to a good elk hunt this year I hope. Anyways, thats enough for now.

Hello, everyone...I live in Oregon after having moved from Montana. Am just now getting back into the swing of things and hope to start hunting again after a 40 year hiatus. I currently own a .300 Savage (probably converted WWII Japanese rifle), 12-guage shotgun and a model '94 Winchester .30-30. Don't do much wth guns, but that doesn' lessen my interest. Will probably hunt elk, but not much else (I like the meat).

Hello members my name is Paul and i live in Massachusetts (its getting harder to tell folks that nowadays). But i am an old yankee and jarhead just trying to get by in this liberal state.
I had to join this site after reading a lengthly but very interesting thread. It was from 2003 and was started by OEF VET about a pistol he was purchasing. I believe it was a
.38-200 S&W Victory. I have just picked up basically the same pistol and had a ton of question. Well the response from Old Fuff was incredible. More detail than i thought i'd find in many hours of researching. Thats why i decided to join this forum group. Thanks THR i think i'm hooked. SEMPER FI

Sort of new.

Actually joined sometime back in early '05 think I made two or three posts and then sort of got lost. Thought I would try getting back into the swing here.

Hi, Newby here. I got into reloading about 6 months ago. Got on the net and looked for the best forum I could find and here I am. I like my Black Powder firearms and have a couple of modern handguns. I'm a retired Deputy City Marshal from Nevada and due to disabilities, I had to retire from Bounty Hunting. I have picked up alot of info on this sight and I'm learning something new everyday.

what's up with robby.1911? i am 59 years young, as of july 21. grew up in the south. only one in my family to have an interest in guns. USAF from 1971-1975, photojournalist. pretty much a 1911 guy but glock and sig make me tremble. handguns are where it's at for me, but i do respect the long gun. i like to work on my own guns and have the ruined parts to prove it. i spent 10 years in spain and speak spanish fluently. i buy, sell and trade. like to help other shooters. that's me.

Greetings all. I am AF Raptor, currently 19 and in college. I am in the AFROTC program and am going to enter the Air Force after I obtain my 4 year degree. I am a fan of most guns (besides shotguns, perhaps). I have yet to own one though, and am waiting to get my CCW once I turn 21. I am actually planning on acquiring a long gun sometime next year. Anyways, glad to be here!

I am into CCW, AR15, S&W revolvers, C&R, AK, looking at getting my first 1911 in the next year. I am going to get an XD .45 service and hopefully get into IDPA.

I am also heavily into politics.

Hello There

Another newbie. Been lurking this site for a few months and decided to join.
Quick bio on myself. Worked at the state prison here for a few years with a break in the middle for a tour in Iraq as a combat engineer with the ANG. Currently employed by the Sheriffs Dept. Recently married and just found out the wife is pregnant. Look forward to being part of THR community.:)

Hello

Like some others I've been lurking for a while and decided to make it official. I enjoy reading the posts, like sitting around in a diner, sipping coffee and and "shooting" the bull with old friends, pun intended.

New member having fun reading,...

Hi everyone, Been poking around the post's here for a few hours and have found some great info on some of my older ITHACA guns. I Just wanted to say hey, and thanks to all that have posted accurate, passionate, detailed info on their knowledge of firearms. Getting tired now, will come back soon and learn some more!!

Thoroughly enjoyed reading the sticky On Fighting Shotguns by Dave. It was an affirmation that a man with a rock is more dangerous than an mall ninja with an expensive shotty. :D

I've enjoyed reading the informational threads and thank the knowledgeable contributors for there efforts.

Another old man too old to fight... ;)

newbie

Hi, I'm dianamite. Just started getting into guns last year. Worked with a bad influence during night shift and we started discussing my desire for self protectioin at home. He showed me his gun maganzines out of his brief case. Didn't realize my nice co-worker loves guns (ex-military).

I noticed someone asked about timeing on revolvers. Here's a great link:

www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/video/how-to-repair-slow-timed-smith-wesson-revolver-204271/

Went to the gun range with my brother and used my 83 year old mother's 38 special. Gave us a hard time. Someone at work says it is the timing. I think so and since I've worked assemble most of my life, it looks like a piece of cake to fix. I think mom damaged it cause she doesn't really know how to use it. Just the old safety class.

Tried to get her out to the gun range, but she'd rather go to church. I'll have to see about getting it fixed for her.

Anyway...been going to the gun range with my smith and wesson 9mm. Also have a little Kel-tec for concealment (have the permit).

Hope to learn something here in this forum.
