Hi y'all, I live in Easley s.C. for the last ten try. now. Am a transplanted yankee from Long Island. N.Y.This seems like a real good site with alot of knowledge. I think I will enjoy it.
I'm a vet of the vietnam era U.S. Army 61 to 67.
I'm into pistols and handloading them. I currently own a Taurus pt 1911 in .45 Kel Tec .32 Taurus 111 millenium and a A22A S&w .22
Long guns include a Savage 99F in 308, Victor Sarasquata double barreled 12 Ga. Rem.sportsman 58 auto in 12 Ga. All bought in the mid sixties.
I also ride a vintage Harley shovelhead.

Y'all be well, Howie

Hi, Ive been lurking and enjoying it. I have a 9 shot 22 centinal revolver,a marlin plinker, and just bought a mossberg 500 ($250@dsg). I've run about 200 shells of shot and slugs and love the mossberg. In some sick way its like a barbie doll.I've dressed it up in different barrels, stocks, fore ends, and sights etc.I have a 12 gauge wardrobe for every activity from hunting to home defense. I guess you can do that with many arms but shotguns perform almost like many different guns in one.
I am considering a xd 3.8 as a good hand gun possibly for ccw. This may be out of my price range for a while and that may factor in to my purchase.
The main reason I wanted to post is to thank everyone for posting.I really appreciate all of the information and experiences. I think I'll go back to lurking now.I'm looking forward to exploring this site.
Thanks again to all members and moderators for your sharing your time, opinions ,knowledge.

Greetings from northeast WA. state

I probably hold the record for the longest lurker :)scrutiny:) of the HIGHROAD, I can't even come close to estimating the amount of knowledge that I've picked up here over the last several years.

With a couple of new "project guns" in the works and knowing that the info I needed could be found here, I felt it was high time I got off my ass and finally became a member.

3-gun got into my blood awhile back and I'm working on getting a 3-gun club/matches off the ground here in NE-WA. as we call it.

If there is anything I can do for anyone feel free to ask.
thanks....

Hey guys!
I ran across this forum and it looked like a good forum to join. I'm 22 and own three guns: A Marlin Model 60 .22lr, a Mossberg 500 pump action 20 gauge, and a .40cal s&w made by Smith and Wesson. I'm interested in buying more when I can get back to work in the summer. I am also looking into reloading. Hopefully I will learn a lot here!

Hi,

My name is Jamie and I am from WV. I try to be very pro-active in WV. I am very interested in the history of siege warfare and combat engineering and small arms, accoutremnts, manuals, literature, and even artillery associated with same. I am also getting back into IDPA and 3 Gun after a very long sabbatical.

New Guy Just Sayin' Hi

Howdy, folks.

Been lurking and reading this forum for several months now, and thought that it was about time I introduced myself. So, here we go...

As you can see from my handle, I live in the wilds of northwest Iowa. Lotsa good hunting here. I think that's one of the main reasons I still live here and put up with Iowa winters. Especially the one we just had. What do I like to hunt? Well...small game, pheasant, deer. I've been thinking about trying turkey hunting this spring. Mainly because on the opening weekend of the deer season I hunt, you wouldn't believe all the gobblers I saw. May have to try for one this year.

As for deer...well, I got really lucky last December. I hunt 2nd shotgun season with a group over by another small town where I have access to a bunch of nice land (family members that farm there, and their neighbor). Lots of timber and hills. Yeah, it's not all flat here. :p On the Sun. of opening weekend I tagged a really nice 12-point not typical buck. Sure was the envy of my party, and he sure looks good hanging on my living room wall. I doubt I'll ever have that kind of luck again. That's ok, I'm primarily a meat hunter, not trophy. Heh...this time I got gravy on my taters.

Since I really love pheasant hunting, of course I've got a dog for that. Deacon, my 10 yr. old pointing lab. He's my first hunting dog, and he's hands down the best dog I've ever had. But, he's getting up there in years and his eyesight is failing. So, in a few months I'll be getting a little buddy for him. I've got a deposit down on a male yellow pointing lab from Turkey Creek Labs up in Lake Benton, MN. I'm really looking forward to training up a new hunting buddy this year.

Hmmm.....what else is important. Oh...the guns, of course.

Long Guns
Winchester Model 290 semi-auto .22 (bunnies & squirrels)
Stevens Model 39A bolt-action .410 (also bunnies & squirrels. This was my first gun, given to me by my brother when I was 13.)
Mossberg Model 500 (birds)
Mossberg Model 500, with rifled slug barrel (deer)

Handguns
Taurus PT99 9mm
Taurus PT1911 .45 ACP

Well, that's about all I can think of for the moment. Now that I've broken the ice, I'm sure I'll be posting more. See ya.

welcome

I was raised in Iowa, and taught how to hit pheasants by my Uncle (one armed ex-WWII paratrooper), when I was 13, with a Westernfield 20 gauge bolt action (and squirrels and rabbits with his SxS Savage 410... "to-die-for" beautiful, and got my 1st ever pheasant with, nice crossing shot through the trees)

that 20 was only one of two guns I have ever sold in my life, and been kicking myself for it ever since
wish they still made bolt action shotguns with a 2 shot shell "clip", never have understood why they don't
only solace is that I do have a really nice Savage 410 pump

but your post sure brought back good memories !
thanks

Hello All

Hi,
I am an avid shooter and rare hunter. I own several very nice deer rifles of the Browning Gold Medallion Venue. They come in 7mm08, .243, .270, .30 Cal of 1906 (30-06)....however, on the rare occassion that I shoot deer I carry one of my old reliable .30 WCF (thirty thirty) in 1894 Win model. I have yet to have a deer shot with this cartridge come back to life. In today's market you will find the 30-30 much cheaper to buy as well. As you can see I am very practical. I own a google of weapons. When it comes to semi auto pistols...the rounds that fit them are all 9mm. I can't afford exotics. I also learned as a small child that shot placement is everything and bullet size or strength of powder comes 2nd. So, I'm doubting that a headshot, a heart shot, a lung shot, or a liver shot to an intruder with my 9mm Gold Dots, will do anything besides kill the intruder.

I see deer hunter's all the time here in N.W. Florida, where deer avg about 150 pounds at the most, using a .300 Win Mag to kill them. My little 30-30 gets the job done everytime at about 2 dollars less per shot. I look forward to reading and learning from your experiences and ideas. Thanks for letting me put in my 2 cents.
Sincerly,
Triggert53

Hello from WA

Another from Washington. I'm an AGI certified gunsmith and have my own business out of my garage (for now). I had heard of the site some time ago, but never stopped by. I was doing some research for a firearm I have to work on and came across the site and decided to join. (well, had to in order to PM someone about that firearm) I think this will be a better forum than the last place I participated in.

ETA: My website is still in work but I have a bunch of videos on You Tube. www.youtube.com/macteutates
